Pros: They Do have a toll free support number...but who knows if they answer. Cons: Paying nearly $200 for freely available software, not even their own software, and buying a pig in a poke type service that, like it or not, you'd be out that money, does NOT sound like a smart idea to me.
Free Internet Access is one of my Holy Grail type objects, and I admit to loving every minute of it. I'm always on the lookout for new free offers. So, I decided to check out WebCombo, listed as a national free ISP here on epinions. Here's what I...

Pros: lived up to agreement for first 6 months Cons: was supposed to live up to agreement for lifetime
Take heed of the message from the robot on the old space travel t.v. show! 14 months and $149.95 (plus long distance phone calls) ago, I subscribed to webCombo. In agreement (which I had to agree to), the subscriber was promised "free"...

Pros: Easy setup, easy to use, stable and reliable Cons: Disable zip programs when installing software. For some reason it creates error messages when trying to install the software.
One day while visiting eBay, I had come across some auctions for "free internet access". I took a look at an auction for WebCombo 2000. You can purchase the software for a one time fee of $159.00. With this price you got a CD with everything...

Pros: It's Free Cons: For a Fee...
It irks me to have to pay the same fee for internet access every month regardless of how often I use the service. It boggles the mind how they figure these things out.
I figured if these people (Webcombo) have the gall to offer free service...

Pros: Spend $150 and never worry about net access again. Cons: Tech support could be 24 hours.
..but it's the next best thing. Certainly the word "free" is somewhat of a misnomer when talking about Webcombo, as there is the little matter of a one time $150 start up fee. And yes, I was a touch nervous when I fired off the money in...

Pros: Can't Find Any!! Cons: Paying $150.00 Up Front For Free Internet Access You Can Get Free From Other ISP's
This is not really a bargain when you look into it more. They want you to pay over $150.00 up front for their software and then you get free internet access service for life. Well, first of all, how do we know they will be around 2 or more years from...

Pros: None Cons: All
I saw WebCOMBO's service advertised at several trade shows in 1998/1999. Initially, they did not have service in my area, but several months later, after they provided access to the small town in which I live, I bought 2 internet accounts...one for me...

Pros: unlimited access and no monthly fees Cons: one time start up fee
I've been on Webcombo for approximately 3 months and I'm loving it. Yes, you have to pay an up front fee to purchase the license, but after that you pay nothing. You heard me right...no monthly fees and its in most parts of the country. I have yet to...

Pros: Easy install, fast connection Cons: NOT free
I had heard of WebCombo for at least a year before I finally decided to try it out. I purchased it mainly as a Christmas gift for a member of my family after a friend had recommended it as a fantastic service provider. You pay a one time payment and you...

Pros: fast, free after $180.00, available in over 99% of the US, doesn't boot you off for being idle, no banner ads or surveys Cons: the one-time, up-front fee of $180.00
First of all, AltaVisa and those other free internet access companies make you watch banner ads. These banner ads are programmed to appear above any other windows at all times. This means that if you want to play a computer game against someone over...

Pros: WAS a Great service, no ad bar, not disconnected Cons: shut down, may not return. If it returns, can't trust it
updated opinion Sept. 1, 2000
Service is suspended as of today. This time they may be down for the count. With no warning, they shut down the network. The email server still works, but for how long is anyone's guess.
Unlike the...

Pros: One time $149, reseller program Cons: Very little tech support
WebCombo has been a great service while it lasted. I used this ISP for about a year. I found it at a trade show for $149.00 and I was kind of optimistic about it. After a little research I went ahead and bought it. This was my first ISP to ever use...

Pros: None now. Cons: No 800 tech support. CD with useless SW.
I have used webcombo for quite sometime now and enjoyed the access which
only cost me $149.00. I almost always got on the internet with the first
phone call.
The CD they provided me was full of totally useless software. All I
needed...

Pros: No banner ads, taking up desktop space Cons: FREE is not FREE, if you pay money
I have serious trouble when someone says I am going to get something FREE and then has me pay for it, no matter whose pocket the money eventually ends up in.. Certainly, there is always going to be some sort of payback, and in this case, the payback...
