A Former Employee's opinion of University of Phoenix
by devilswin ,Oct 27 '05
Pros: Flexible Cons: Money is KING! Education quality is poor!
I was a academic counselor at University of Phoenix for a year. I was treated good there, but there is some shady shady stuff going on there. People leave all the time, so students get new counselors on a regular basis. The undergrad lower level courses you pay $1,500 for, you can take at a community college for $200. I had students constantly call me up and tell me problems with instructors, and administration. The academics at University of Phoenix varied based on the instructor. It's a total joke. There really is no standard across the board for a particular class, so it means that you could take GEN/300, and take it again afterward, and learn totally different material. It's really all based on how good/motivated the instructor is. The classes on ground I heard are better than online classes, so if you have to go, the ground campus would be your best choice. If you are looking for a MBA, they require no GMAT or anything, so that means anyone can get in. This really will water down your degree. No standards across the board. Don't stop, don't turn around, JUST RUN!!!!

University of Phoenix
by myopiniontasol ,Nov 08 '09
Pros: UoP is unique because they have teachers who actually work in the field they teach. Cons: Some teachers participate in class more than others.
I found the previous response to the University of Phoenix interesting - sounds like sour grapes to me. I think you were angry that you were not hired (I agree with their decision - you have a bad attitude). You slam an accredited university that you know little or nothing about. You mentioned in your email to UoP 'I would love to teach at your universtiy'. Why would you apply to teach at an institution you feel is inferior? I find the classroom set-up at UoP very enriching. Instructors actually work in the feild they teach and are not just giving you information they learned in a book. I also find the online setting fits my work schedule well. I live, travel, and work overseas, and am able to keep up with my classes most anyplace in the world with a good internet connection.

University of Phoenix / University of Profit
by myrabecca ,Aug 24 '09
Pros: Popular with military personnel, active, reserve, and retired. A waste of taxpayer money. Cons: More about marketing and "butts in the seats" than a real viable education.
I completed ALL requirements for UOP BS Business Management. Prior to graduation (after two years of study and program complete) I was told that I lacked two undergrad courses that were missed on admssion. I still "walked" in the graduation ceremony. Due to course revisions, I am now required to retake/take seven more classes to fulfill the original requirements. Do the math...that's over $9,ooo on top of the $25,000 already spent (not invested). This is a business with no concience. It's all about money. They don't even respect their own curriculum. A degree from Sally Struthers (if you can remember that far back) is more credible. My advise is that you stay with reputible state schools. Stay away from this one.
