Pros: Some decent tips and tricks; easy to read. Cons: A good bit of bad advice when it comes to the math portion.
I took the Princeton Review GRE course during the summer of 2005 as part of a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Texas A&M. The REU paid for the class, which was nice, though I have no idea how much it would have cost otherwise. As part of ...
Pros: Clever methods and insights Cons: you still have to take the test
I think out of all the books and courses out there for those stupid standardized tests, the Princeton Review offers the best methods. They acknowledge right up front what a pain in the ass these tests are, that they don't really tell anything about you...
What most people do not take into consideration when they take the GRE for the first time is that in its new format (computer type), they will be given the option to accept their score or reject it (without seeing the score, but you should have an idea...
Pros: creative, easy, learning made fun, works if you apply yourself Cons: expensive, intensive
The Princeton Review is an investment definitely worth considering. Besides being offered a wealth of materials as aides, the classes are fun! They hand pick teachers that really know this test and have basically aced it themselves. They are thoroughly...
I bought this when I had to take the GRE. This course taught you the tricks and tips of the trade. They teach you how to eliminate answers and select the best from the rest. They teach you what I would call the system for taking the GRE. They...
Pros: a few useful test-taking tips Cons: a waste of time and $ for a test that isn't that important
I applied to graduate programs in biology 4 years ago and, of course was required to take the GRE. I should first note that at this time the computer-based GRE was still in its infancy amd mot people, including myself, were taking the old-fashioned...
Pros: Vocab, Essay techniques Cons: Cost, techniques, Don't stand by satisfaction/money back guarantee, Inexperienced tutors, Unfriendly corporate office
I took a private tutoring course and do not recommend Princeton Review for the GRE. The skills they teach are not worth the money you pay. Such skills can be easily learned by just reading a prep-book on your own. A lot of PR's methods take too long to apply considering the time. The tutors are inexperienced and themselves are not experts on the test. The first tutor I met with told me to use a calculator - calculators are NOT permitted on the GRE. My score did not improve after taking an 18 hour course. The second time I took the GRE I studied with the Kaplan Premier Program 2008 ed. book and CD-ROM at home and my score improved over 400 pts.
