Not all it's cracked up to be.

by acestep , Nov 26 '00
Pros: Price, Small, Text display
Cons: Safety warning system
I have owned a radar detector for at least a 1 1/2 years. When I got this one I was excited of the safety warning system. What they forget to mention in the adds is most county's don't have these systems in their vehicles. I drive about 90 miles to get...

Got a lead foot? Maybe get one of these too...

by boonkauc , Feb 15 '01
Pros: Detects both radar and laser, good range, easy read display
Cons: none
I bought this radar detector about a year and a half ago, mainly because I had a very bad problem with speeding. Without even thinking about it, I would go 15 or 20 over the speed limit. I needed something to keep me from getting tickets, and I wanted...

Whistler Radar Detection.. Great Purchase

by bricks , Jul 02 '00
Pros: inexpensive, many features, great range
Cons: none
You never know when a cop is going to be lurking by in the woods, or behind an obstacle where you cannot see them with their radar on. All it takes is for you to be 5 mph over the speed limit and you would most likely get a near $100 ticket.

Either I got unlucky or this thing is pretty bad

by g_ilia , Mar 06 '01
Pros: Few false warnings
Cons: Hard to read display, craftsmanship, VG2 not automatically on
When I bought this radar detector I had little time to really look around. I was leaving for a road trip and only had a few minutes to shop. This detector had all the features and I decided that if it doesn't work out I'll just return it when I get...

Whistler DE1650

by LoneRanger5810 , Aug 31 '00
Pros: Great price and easy installation
Cons: It is very easy to use.
I bought this detector about two or three months back because of the price and also because I liked what I read on it. On many occasions, it has saved me from getting a ticket by warning me in time that there was a police officer in the area.

A radar detector that does the job

by mosquitoguy , Apr 21 '01
Pros: It works well.
Cons: A few false alarms, but I can live with it.
I'm very pleased with Whistler 1650. It does the job well without the unneeded bells and whistles. I've read several epinions on radar detectors and how Valentine One is the best radar detector. My take on this is:

1) If you speed often...

Very Poor Sensitivity

by turbo2 , Sep 14 '00
Pros: Good Text Display and user selectable features
Cons: Very poor sensitivity and no feature setting memory
I tried this unit for two weeks. During that time I encountered 4 police radar traps. In each situation I saw the cruiser before the radar detector went off. One area that I travel regularly uses a mobile speed measurement sign to let drivers know their...

Worth Every Penny

by jifiii , Dec 22 '00
Pros: 360 Degree Protection
Cons: Pulse Instant-on Protection
The 360 degree protection is good on this radar detector. I was going into the town I live in when my my radar detector started going off, I was slowing down didn't know if it was a false alarm or if it was a radar gun. I was looking all around for the...

No problems

by Thumping , Dec 22 '00
Pros: Price and features
Cons: Something is broken in my volume system.
I bought this unit because of it's features and price. I like the large display and the voice. It has accurately picked up police speed detection, grocery store door openers and building alarm systems. I drive a mixture of rural and city so I just leave...

Great stuff....Can save you money....

by alexcc , Dec 10 '00
Pros: SWS
Cons: comes without visor mount and hardwrire accessories. SWS does not works everywhere
I bought this detector a year ago. I used it on 3 vihicles. First on an '88 Ford Taurus. It looks good on the Taurus. You can windshield mount it at the base, and leave it there. No matter on which road you drive, it won't fall off. Once I remember...

either bad luck or bad quality.

by mnorby , Jul 11 '00
Pros: Good features and looks
Cons: Not too trustworthy
I am one of those people who like to push the speed limit and try not to get cought. I bought the Whistler 1650 to try to evade a confrontation with Ol' Smokey the Bear and after bad luck with a Cobra detector (read my other review). At first I bought...

great value!! nice text display, good sensitivity.
by steve104857 ,May 23 '05
Pros: easy to read text..great strength meter, good sensitivity
Cons: under-rated for the$$$
I recently bought this model "new" even though it is an older model. I was using a Passport 5000. I compared them and this 1650 worked at least equally as well in x,k and ka band (laser-n/a as used rarely in area) I like the smaller size of the 1650 and I got the strength meter which the Passport 5000 lacked. I do NOT notice any trouble reading the display, even in the brightest days. Now, I am not a heavy lead foot so this provides enough warning for me to slow down in time. If I was heavier on the gas sure-I probably would pay more to get the most detection possible. The way I see it you should only buy-pay for what YOU feel you need. I am very pleased with this model.
