The Whistler DE-1730 is one of the cheapest detectors that I've ever used. I compared it face-to-face against the Cobra ESD-6060 which costs about the same. The Cobra may look better with its display, but the Whistler DE-1730 actually ...
Pros: Value for money, small size, laser detection. Cons: Alert volume, display brightness, sometimes mis-id's bands.
While my normal Beltronics RX65 was out for repair, I purchased a Whistler 1730 for $40 at Wal-Mart to use as a spare. I really just intended to sell it off after getting my RX65 back, but after using it, i've decided to keep it around. For the price, ...
Pros: Excellent rating 5 stars and better! Cons: None that I know of.
I am writing a special review for this radar detector for the people shopping for a superb radar detector priced at a reasonable level and offers very good protection. I purchased this unit about two months ago. Since then it has saved me more times than ...
Pros: Price, ease of use, actual performance and features for the money. Cons: Could be louder and have brighter LED's.
Take from a person who has tried a few radar detectors in his day, this may not be the best one on the market but it's the best value going. Look at the features you get for 40 bucks...Audible alerts with separate tones for each band of radar plus laser, ...
Pros: Good price, all band/laser in a nice basic package, attractive unit Cons: Short range(but enough), lots of false alarms
I bought this for a recent 12 hour drive, and was impressed with it. Though it had some false alarms, I was alerted to all cops, laser, photo radar units, unmanned radar units, and many electric doors (I didn't really use the city mode). I had to learn...
Excellent/affordable radar detector! by supercell28 ,Jul 05 '05
Pros: Sleek looking, loud, always alerts me, and not many false alarms when in city mode. Cons: None
I purchased this radar detector at Walmart for around 40$ and it was well worth it! Its sleek looking, loud and alerts me every time at a pretty good distance when a cop is using his radar gun. Not many false alarms either when in City mode.
A good radar detector at a good price. by martin987 ,Oct 31 '03
Pros: A 40 dollar detector that performs like a 100 dollar unit. Great value. Cons: Brighter LED's and memory settings would be nice.
I saw the other reviews on this Whistler (they were pretty good) and thought I'd throw in my 2 cents since I've owned one for quite a while now. This unit works very well overall. I bought mine at Wal-Mart for 40 bucks. As a previous rater said, this is a very simple unit to operate, you can either plug it in and go if you're the type that doesn't read owners manuals (although I suggest after turning it on using either the city mode for urban driving or the auto-mute mode for all other driving) or you can read the manual and take advantage of the wide variety (for this price range) of features. It detects radar quite well, rejects non-radar signals and pollution from other detectors quite well, and keeps the noise down in the city with either the city mode or auto-mute mode. Seems fairly well made, not much better than that though. Warnings are very clear although brighter LED's would be nice. Audio warnings are good.

Best Detector for the Money...Thinks it's a $300 unit.... by flyinglow ,Jun 13 '04
Pros: Excellent detection...simple to use...reliable... Cons: Nothing...it does it's job...
I drive 45 miles to work and deal with county mounties & small town police along the way...This detector has saved my bacon 3-4 times...It has preformed better than a $149 unit I had before...Best $39.95 I ever spent...
Pros: 360 degree range. Multiple detectors. Small and very compatible. Cons: Picks up some interference(What doesn't?) from electric sliding doors, and some factories.
Very good radar, laser, ..ect. Detector. Can be bought cheaper than $45.00. Local Wal*Mart should sell for 39.95 plus tax. This Whistler works outstanding.
Pros: simple to use and it works great Cons: can't see LED so the quiet mode is not effective.
I got this radar detector 3 weeks ago and its great.
I already saved 300$ worth of tickets.
If you like to drive fast this is what you need.
Drove over 1000 miles with it and did not get caught once.
