Pros: Fabulous sound; excellent value; solid construction Cons: 2-way remote is a usability nightmare, lacks coax digital audio input for TV/Cable
I've been using my Sony STR-DB940 since May 2000 and the experience has been an excellent one. It replaced an older Sony STR-DE8xx receiver, which lacked some of the new features needed to make DVD really shine.
Pros: Good value [at less than retail], lots of inputs, extremely configurable. Cons: Can't convert composite to s-video, needs a lot of tweaking, speaker terminals kind of weird.
I've had this receiver for about 2 months. I was upgrading from a 4-year-old Sony Pro-logic.
Out of the box the first thing you'll notice is how heavy it is. The unit seems well-constructed and looks good after you remove all the stickers. The...
Pros: Sony, appears well built, digital connections, excellent hometheater amp. Cons: Almost fatal flaw: mids are vacant when listening to music, DSP delay ! ! !
After having hooked up everything and rewiring my system entirely, I have come to the conclusion that there is a serious problem with this unit. While listening to music, the mids are vacant and weak. It has an overall cold sound to it and though I've...
Pros: GREAT SOUND, NICE FEATURES Cons: TINY BUTTONS ON REMOTE, COULD USE MORE S-VIDEO INPUTS
I PURCHASED MY SONY DB 940 IN NOVEMBER 2000. I USE IT AS MY MAIN AUDIO SOURCE FOR WATCHING TV, DVDS, AND ALSO PRODUCING MUSIC. MY REVIEW WILL ENCOMPASS THE SOUND QUALITY, INPUTS AND REMOTE OF THE DB 940.
Pros: Home Theater Cons: Not the best for Music, but still good.
I have had the STR-DB940 for about 5 months and I like it a lot. First of all, however, the suggested retail price is ludicrously high, if you look hard enough you can find it for under $400 US dollars. This receiver excells at home theater. However,...
Pros: Great Sound Quality. Lots of Power. Good Learning Remote. Nice Finish- no silly flashing lights. Cons: Only one coaxial input.
This is an amazing machine. I must have listened to 15-20 receivers before I decided to purchase this machine. Sony out did all of them with this great receiver. I purchased it in Sydney at Basement Hi-Fi for $899 Australian Dollars.
