Pros: Quality of sound, Ease of use, battery life, support. Cons: Twice it froze on me...no biggie I restarted, okay headphone (drastic improvment from the last)
First of all its Archos. If you go to their website you will see that these people do not fool around. They make quality products and this jukebox is one of them!
Setting up the box was simple. It took a little longer with me since I am running this...
Pros: 6GB in a small, compact package. Easy to use. Holds any files. Sturdy. Well-designed Cons: Battery removal difficult, risks marring case, Can't use regular 1.5v AA cells.
I just purchased the Archos Jukebox 6000 as a birthday gift for my fiancee, but I may keep it for myself! This is the ideal design for a portable MP3 player. Based on the same, ubiquitous 2.5" hard drive found in most notebook computers, the Archos...
Pros: price, built in memory, it's a hard disc Cons: very heavy, low volume
this is my first MP3 player and it's been great. capability for 6000 minutes of 128 quality music. I've had this product almost a year and a've had no problems whatsoever with it. I have 600+ songs, complete movies, trailers, games, photos, documents,...
Pros: Carries a huge music collection. Updates available (for firmware and drivers). Looks great! Cons: Takes a couple days to get the hang of using it. Confusing manual.
Some of the other reviews might say that the Archos Studio is not durable. Right after they drop it off a cliff. Some of the reviewers say that it is impossible to work with. But they only have an IQ of 70. Where is this going? The Archos studio is...
Pros: Sturdy Construction, nice looking, Great price, doubles as USB Hard Drive, padded carry case. Cons: Poor sounding headphones(included), USB interface a little slow, but tolerable
I bought this thing after buying two non functional Rio One players, at about $100 more. Too bad I didn't see this one earlier. This unit is packed with usability and a friendly one at that. I got it back to the office, charged the batteries, plugged...
Pros: Holds tons of CDs, doubles a a 6 GB hard drive Cons: included headphones, no lock button
I have been looking for a portable MP3 player for over 6 months and have been very interested in the Archos 6000 for a while. The price has finally dropped. Best Buy had a $50 mail in rebate, so the final price was $189.
Pros: Best capacity to price ratio available, quality sound. Cons: Hard drives can't be pounded like a solid state player.
I'll get it right out of the way. This player has a hard drive. You can't juggle a hard drive based player, and you probably can't jog with it. (I havn't tried, though.)
However, I've only ever caused the hard drive to have a problem once,...
Pros: Small, great battery life. Cons: USB 1.1 is slow. Go for the USB 2.0 model
I have a new favorite gadget. The Archos holds a lot of music, sound quality is excellent, and I'm getting plenty of battery life. I use it on trips and easily get 10 hours from the batteries. The unit is easy to hack too, you can add new batteries if...
Pros: easy to use, stores allot of music Cons: none
I am very impressed with Archos Jukebox 6000. It's main competitors are Nomad Jukebox from Creative Labs and the Remote Solution Personal Jukebox PJB 100. All of these devices use a hard drive to store MP3 music for portable playback. Archos is...
Pros: Size; Battery-Life; Good Headphones; Easy to Download Songs to Cons: Battery Door is Ridiculous to Open; Buttons questionable on durability; Instruction Manual is a joke
I wrote an article a few weeks ago on the Creative Nomad Jukebox. The Review Title at that time was "The Best 6GB MP3 Player on the market (so far). Well, so far has passed in time thanks to the NEW Archos HD-MP3. It is in my opinion better than the...
Pros: Huge 6GB disk storage; ruggedized case. Cons: Volume doesn't go low enough; pouch doesn't show controls.
The Jukebox 6000 comes with a whopping 6GB of MP3 storage space, 2 sets of NiCad batteries, charger, belt pouch, headphones (behind the head type), and USB cable. For $350, it is the best price per MB of storage. It's easy to copy MP3 files to it. Once...
Pros: Excellent sound quality/battery life Cons: Cheap buttons/durability?
I just picked up the Archos Recorder (upgraded with a 20 gig HD) and so far it's been working great. Mind you I had to return the unit after the first day as there appeared to be something wrong with the hard drive itself. But they replaced the HD and...
Pros: Great storage capacity Cons: Customer service
This is the best MP3 player on the market. We have had it for 6 months and use it at work, home, and in the car. We have even upgraded our car stereo with a new Aiwa deck that has an MP3 plug in the front of the unit.
Pros: 6GB of file storage Cons: none to think of yet
The ARCHOS Jukebox HD-MP3 Recorder is the best MP3 recorder/player I’ve come across. First, it’s 6GB Hard Drive gives you real-time recording of nearly 6 000 minutes of top quality music in MP3 format. Not to mention, you can record from analog and...
Pros: size, price, ease of use (just becomes another hard drive in explorer) Cons: occasional crash, must restart, controls aren't elegant but work fine
you can't beat the amount of music you can carry in such a small unit, it's price, battery life, ease of use (just becomes another hard drive in explorer). I can see how some people would be bothered by the occasional crash when you must restart the unit...
Pros: Beats all the rest on the market. Cons: ummmmm, ummmmmmm ,,, nope i cant really think of any!
The Archos Jukebox 6000 was pretty much revolutionary. It managed to hold 6gb worth of music, and still not be the size of an Egyptian pyramid. However, compared to its main rival, the Creative Nomad Jukebox, it lacked features, and it lacked the cutting...
Pros: 6GB of music in the palm of my hand Cons: Cheap and cheezy silver coating on buttons
This could possibly be the perfect music player. When I reviewed the original Archos Jukebox, I had a lot of complaints about the unit. When I saw this new jukebox+recorder on the market I was skeptical. I picked up the new Archos Recorder because...
Pros: Small, Solid, Huge Capacity, Portable USB Hard Disk Cons: Weak User Interface, Will Skip Unlike Flash Based Players
Often times you'll see a company that does something really well venture into a new product realm and apply their expertise. Well Archos is a French company that manufactures portable PC components aimed at laptops. They've got a terrific portable Hard...
Pros: 6 Amazing and compact gb of music and data storage Cons: No remote control of wired remote.
First of, I love the price of this bad boy. I picked mine up last week and all my friends at work want one because their little 64 and 128 mb does not compete with my Archos 6000. It took me 2 weeks before I decided to go with the Archos over the Nomad...
I travel two weeks a month and this MP3 thing has me hooked to digital music. So I researched MP3 players extensively on epinions.com and came to the conclusion that the Archos was the way to go. I went to my local Best Buy and sampled the products and...
Pros: Lots of Storage, nice accessories Cons: Heavy, car 12v adaptor only available in kit
Hmmm, Which is it.. a MP3 player or a Portable Hard Drive? Mine gets used for both. I keep about 3 gig of MP3 on it and use the rest for doing a backup of my work daily to bring Work and a copy of work files home.
Pros: storage size, unique design, battery life (includes 2 sets) Cons: smaller, but not tiny, display / UI should be better, battery life indicator not accurate
I had the nomad and returned it because it really didn't do much for me. chunky, relatively poor battery life, and no double use as a hard drive. It went back after one week, just wasn't worth the money. So, I waited for awhile, and then appeared the...
Pros: Lot's of space for songs
Small, looks cool
Easy to use
Long battery life Cons: You can't make the sound really loud, but it still goes up pretty high.
I've been wanting to buy an MP3 player for a long time but they were always too expensive or had too little memory. Archos Jukebox 6000 has 6GB of space, which is equivalent to 150 CD's or 1500 songs! It's also way more affordable than other MP3...
Pros: Great storage capabilities and easy interface Cons: Somewhat lagging software, playlists are limited
The Jukebox 6000 is a 6GB hard drive based mp3 player made by the computer company Archos. It seems that many of the hard drive based mp3 players that come out are made by computer companies rather than companies that have already created a lot of audio...
Pros: Cool looking, Superfast startup/shutdown, easy firmware upgrade, is a portable HD! Cons: Skips now and then, lacking in Mac support, cheap peripherals, minimal ID3..
This player has the PERFECT size, solid feel, decent playback (though volume could be higher), adequate playlist functions.
Player skips now and then, a bug that the company acknowledges but seems unable to address.
It comes with a pair of...
Pros: Storage space, portability and price. Also functions as a portable hard drive. Cons: Poor instructions. A few counter intuitive functions.
After researching several different brands of hard drive mp3 players, a couple factors lead me to purchase the Archos Jukebox 6000. The first factor was price...at around $225(nearly $100 less then the others) it fell within my price range....
Pros: Capacity for music, portability, looks Cons: On/Off switch, slightly heavy, archaic menu systems
I recently upgraded my Rio 500 to the Archos 6 Gig Jukebox. Talk about a storage windfall. I went from 64 meg to 6 gig. I had about 2 hours of music on the Rio, but with the Archos, I can load it up with 150 albums! This is an amazing achievement for an...
Pros: 100 hours of music storage, inexpensive, USB connection Cons: Requires Windows 98 Special Edition, too big to use while out running.
I wished the Archos Jukebox 6000 was around last Christmas for I would of asked for it, instead of the Rio 500. Besides being capable of handling approximately 100 hours of tunes, and being relatively small, the 6000 street price is only $350. $150...
Pros: Lots of memory space, size, works as an extra hard disc, batteries last long Cons: No good for jogging, heavy! complicated to use, heats up really easily.
Most of the pocket players in the market works with the memory card, Archos Jukebox 6000 has a bit rearer idea,
the is't based on the use of the hard disc.
Archos has 6 gigabytes of recording space, which means that you can put about 150 cds...
Pros: MASSIVE amount of space, software rocks. Cons: the headphones suck, it's not QUITE loud enough at times...
Much like y'all, I browsed around Epinions.com, as well as cnet.com when I was in the market for an mp3 player. The long and short of it is that most of them are the same: tiny, extremely portable, with between 32-128 (occasionally 256) MB of storage...
Pros: memory capacity, durability, design, ease of use, acts as an external hard drive Cons: headphones are mediocre, battery life is ok, sometimes the volume isn't high enough
I recently bought the Archos Jukebox 6000 after shopping around for some time. The newsflash is "Countrymen, we finally have a portable mp3 player that has the minimum memory capacity for the new millenium."
Pros: small, easy to get started, simple interface, decent battery lifetime, great flexibility Cons: mediocre software, some skipping, bizarre manual, some mac features not implemented (yet)
I am a music lover and mp3 hoarder, and once I saw how cheap this unit was I decided it was time to make my 6GB portable mp3 player dreams come true. I had a few concerns in that I had never heard of Archos before, but I had also never heard of Nomad...
Pros: good features, large capacity, good price Cons: heavy, durability is somewhat bad, low power output, you need a little computer knowledge
Alright, I got the Archos 6000 about 2 years ago for Christmas. I loved this thing. You put music on it by connecting it with a usb cable. It appears as another drive on your computer. so you can just drag and drop files in there, and organize it with ...
Pros: Size, weight, storage capacity, portable hard drive Cons: Unattractive, pain to get batteries out, updating firmware not easy
For many years now, I've followed the MP3 portable player world. Ever since I purchased my first player, the Diamond Rio 300, a couple years back, I loved having the ability to take my music anywhere I wanted without worrying about quality of sound or...
Pros: Low cost, holds more than CDROM or memory-stick players. Cons: A little quirky, and has a few quality problems.
Mine is a Jukebox 6000 which is basically same as the current player, but with a smaller hard drive. Still works great except that some of the cheap silver paint has rubbed off the case and buttons. I use it as a personal stereo, I plug it into my home ...
Pros: sound quality, fast file transfer, plenty of space Cons: quality of sound only good through certain headphones, tech support really sucks
TECH SPECS

Pros: Compact, inexpensive, software upgradeable Cons: Relatively short battery life, Mechanical construction, standard software
I have owned the Archos 6000 player for close to 8 months now and I have made many comparisons with other players. I am also knee-deep in MiniDisc technology so I feel fairly confident that I can make a meaningful judgment.
Pros: -Can store many CD's worth of music
-Clear backlit screen
-Rechargable batteries Cons: -Must go through many menus to find the song you are looking for
Everyday more and more things become digital. Of course, for a while now, music has been transferred digitally all over the place across the internet. For some, burning these onto a CD seems like a logical alternative. For others, however, putting...
Pros: Informative display, user interface very inutitive, recording capability, digital out, plenty of storage, low price Cons: Larger than iPOD (but half the price). Annoying buzz/humm (fixable with Rockbox)
The choices in MP3 players are simple: solid state, CD, or hard disk. Before I bought the Archos Jukebox, I though the CD format is best for me.
I first purchased the Archos 20G Jukebox Player (without recording capability). After start using...
I have had the Archos Jukebox 6000 for over a year now, and so far it's been great. The firmware has been easy to update and apart from the batteries, it still works just as well as the day I bought it. I have found out that I've been getting more use...
Pros: 5GB, It can hold music or files. Fast USB transfer. Cons: Cheap headphones,Cheap buttons,Poor customer
What is it?
This unit is a 5GB MP3 music player. The unit will hold over 83 hours of MP3 (ONLY) files. The player can't play windows media files or MIDI files. But it can also be used as a portable USB hard drive. It transfers...
Pros: Tiny, solid feeling, Holds both data and MP3s. Cons: Controls and menu navigation, sometimes just drops sound for a split second
Chicago. City of Big Shoulders. The City that works. With so much high quality entertainment value in Chicago, its amazing the FM radio band is about as entertaining as listening to a dentist drill. Now of course this is all debatable and strictly...
Pros: 6 gigs of music. Portable. Great for car trips. Cons: Tough for non-techies to get used to. Short battery life. Not much bass.
The price for this 6 gig MP3 player/hard drive is quickly dropping across the world. Originally costing close to $400, it now can be purchased for as little as $200 in some places. Based on the average size of an MP3 song, you could fit 1500 songs on the...
Pros: So much storage space, compact, easy to use, ergonomic/good design Cons: It is a bit heavy, not a good workout player, the earphones are uncomfortable
This mp3 player is Ideal for the car, and for long trips. It's also good when you want to isolate your music from your computer, since it is a hard drive by itself.
As for the conventional uses of a mp3 player it does not score high. Mp3 players...
Pros: Portable hard drive, good player for students, cars Cons: Bad tech support, moving parts associated with hard drive, replacing batteries
When I first got this mp3 player, I was excited. It was my first mp3 hardware and I carried it to a summer camp. The unit carried lots of music, it could recharge and play at the same time, and it was simply a great portable hard drive. At camp, it...
Pros: Large capacity, Relativly small size, easy to move files into. Cons: Heavy, jostling can be a problem, somtimes difficult interface.
I would definitely recommend the archos to a friend or anyone else out there. Its a little bigger than some MP3 players out there but its worth it for the large capacity.
It is very easy to put files into the jukebox using the USB connection....
I mulled for a long time between the Archos Jukebox Recorder and the iPod, but settled on the AJR. I really liked the style of the iPod, but the AJR was simply more practical at half the price.
At first I wasn’t that happy with the AJR – the...
This is my luxury item courtesy of the tax rebate (thanks George!) and as you can see I'm doing my best to help keep the economy propped up. My firmware version is 5.02a which, ironically, is higher than the latest driver currently available on the...
Pros: Plenty...just read the review Cons: some...just read the review

Pros: Price, size, Explorer interface, battery life Cons: Weight, lack of volume control knob, battery compartment
The Archos Jukebox 6000 is a portable 6GB MP3 player. It’s the smallest player of this type on the market, approximately the size of a small cassette walkman. It’s kind of heavy (for an MP3 player) but the thought of carrying every MP3 I have on my...

Pros: space, size, new headphones, price Cons: battery life is short, volume menu, tech-support
Finally the search is over. After months of looking for the best MP3 Player I have finally chose the Archos Jukebox 6000. It has a 6 gigabyte capacity and doubles as a hardrive. I was skeptical after reading some of these reviews but for $200 this...
Pros: Holds as many songs as you have, Portable, Stylish! Cons: Pain to remove rechargable batteries, Batteries don't hold long charge, Doesn't get very loud.
"Catch the wave" you have heard that expression. It means get what's hot. On any regular Mp3 player you can catch the wave, download the hottest songs from the net slap em on. The problem is with a regular Mp3 player it only holds 64 Mgb's of songs. So...
Pros: incredible storage & full-featured Cons: battery casing is HORRIBLE!
First of all, don't be discouraged by my title. It's appropriate, however, because while I would recommend this mp3 player to anyone in the market for a large-storage portable device, I would say that Archos has a few hurdles to clear before their next...
Pros: 6 gig of room, smaller than a deck of cards Cons: Somewhat heavy, poor battery life.
I found the Archos Jukebox 6000 by accident. I was messing around looking at mp3 players on the internet when I saw it. I realized that this was something I truly needed. I got it a little under a year ago, and it was the best 300 dollars I have ever...
Pros: Good storage capacity, ok battery life Cons: Size
I have had my Archos MP3 player for about 6 months now. I had no problems configuring it for my computer. Soon as I plugged it in to the USB port my computer detected it & I was putting music on it within minutes. I did run into some problems with some...
Pros: Good price, small size, easy to use, can be used as a portable hard drive. Cons: Bugs, playlist limitations, sketchy and inaccurate manual & website.
The good:
- Cheaper than other hard-drive based MP3 players
- Smaller than other hard-drive based MP3 players (about the size of a casette walkman)
- Very easy to install
- Very easy to copy files to it (it's basically a portable hard...
Pros: Good sound, long battery life, massive storage capacity, usable interface Cons: Locks up, buggy firmware, gaps between songs.
First off - The image shown above is of the old model. The new 'RECORDER' model has better quality buttons, function buttons, and a higher resolution display (which all make it much more user-friendly).
Pros: Holds many hours of music.
Comes with easy to use soft
Cons: Cheap plastic buttons.
No dial - multiple presses to get to functions.
If the quality of the plastics were better, and if the controls were more user friendly, this would be an amazing buy. But with the quality of the finish, I am not impressed.
It can be used to upload MP3's and other data which makes it useful.
...
Pros: Massive storage! Decent battery life. Good sound. Inexpensive compared to others. Cons: Tech support nonexistent. Slow FF/Rew. Cheap headphones. Reliability suspect.
This was my luxury item courtesy of the tax rebate (thanks George!) and as you can see I'm doing my best to help keep the economy propped up. I've owned it for over a year now and it still runs strong. However, this unit has received a number of...
Pros: Encodes MP3 from microphone or cd-player, hundreds of hours Cons: Difficult to operate, heavy, buggy, noisy recording
This is it, I thought the first time I saw the Archos Jukebox Recorder (ARJ), finally an MP3 player that can record directly from CD-players and microphones. These features were the only reason I had bought a minidisk recorder one year ago. Now I had to...
Pros: Stores 6000 minutes of music, comes with rechargeable batteries. Cons: Heavy, big, doesn't always work.
LATEST UPDATE (05/21/05): I wrote this review a very long time ago and still stick with it. I just wanted to add that now I have the Apple iPod mini and it is amazing. I couldn't be more happy with that product. ______________________ THE ...

Is the Archos Jukebox 6000 really a good deal? Although is has many features and options does it last, is it worth $200?
Well, first off lets talk about it's features. It does have tons of space on it, 6 GB to be exact. Thats 150+ CDs on it....
Pros: 6gb of MP3s in the palm of your hand. Cons: Questionable sound quality, strange control scheme, quality issues.
The Archos Jukebox 6000 at first looks like a great little box. It's the size of a Palm device, it's light, it has a 6gb harddrive for lots of music, and it acts like a harddrive. But once I got to using the machine the small problems started to come...
Pros: if it works, it works well Cons: very buggy, tech support is abysmal
I have had several significant problems with my Jukebox 6000 and with the company in general.
First and foremost, the technical support is pathetic. The toll free number, 800-559-3605 is listed in the documentation, but as of a couple of days...
It was just too good to be true, that much storage in a small device. But in reality, this is a product with quite a few flaws. First of all, the firmware has many bugs. It freezes in mid-play, the player sometimes plays another song than the one you...
Pros: Small Size for a Hard Drive based player, Explorer interface to add / delete files Cons: Quirky cheap feel controls, Mediocre sound quality
I played with the Archos Jukebox 6000 for about three weeks before returning the unit to the store as defective. I'm not sure if it was just my unit that was very quirky or if that's the way they all are - sometime it wouldn't switch on and sometimes...
Pros: Huge Storage Capacity. Cool looking. Cons: Poor user interface, Finicky USB connectivity.
I had been shopping around for an mp3 player for quite some time, when I came across the Archos Jukebox 6000. Most of the other models had 128mb of storage or lower. The Archos has a whopping 6 Gigabyte storage capacity, plus it doubles as a portable...
Pros: Easy to install to computer, has decent disk space for the price Cons: Output level is too low, battery replacement is ridiculous!
A friend of mine recommended this product to me. I'll admit that the user interface on it for choosing MP3's to play and to manage things is very limited yet works okay. Because of this, it requires more viewing (not good for driving conditions). The...
Pros: Size, Storage and No Restrictions Cons: Sound Quality, Reliability and Construction.
Well folks the first generation of hard drive based mp3 players is almost over. This restriction-less portable was a Godsend to all those who wanted a simple feature like uploads and unobtrusive software.
Pros: 6 gigs for $250 sounds great eh? rechargeable batteries Cons: Skips, Heavy, Skips, hard to operate, Skips, battery compartments
My wife and I went to Best Buy to purchase an MP3 player. She was not familiar with them and I only had somewhat of an understanding of them. I download them and play them on my PC and that's about it. I do know about the rates and the hissing so I knew...

Pros: Sound, No copy protection (unlike Nomad), simplicity of copying to USB drive Cons: build quality, display awful, headphones, tech support unresponsive
I bought this over a year ago and whilst I have had some use out of it I have been let down badly by the appalling display (very chunky, very little info available at any one time, very very slow refresh - I could go on and on), substandard headphones,...
Pros: no copy protection BS (unlike Nomad), Use drag and drop as it is USB drive Cons: poor headphones, laughable pouch, goofy looks, VERY poor display, poor build quality
I bought this over a year ago and whilst I have had some use out of it I have been let down badly by the appalling display (very chunky, very little info available at any one time, very very slow refresh - I could go on and on), substandard headphones,...
Pros: Economical. Can be use to store MP3s and as hard drive to store data. Cons: Does not work.
I have long waited for the price of this product to go down, but when I got it two days ago it would not function. The price I got was 199.00 with a $20 rebate from Best Buy. When I got home I started reading the manual to be sure all instructions are...
Pros: Small, compact 6 GB hard drive. Can store other files on it. Cons: Awkward controls; tinny, weak output
When I first got the Archos Jukebox 6000, I thought I had it made. Here was a portable unit which would essentially make my whole music collection portable. It was sleek, small with a good amount of heft to it that I was confident would make it a strong,...
Pros: Nothing is good since this thing only lasts 2 weeks. Cons: Made in China products will never last.
The Initial Problem
I bought my Archos Jukebox 6000 about 2 weeks ago. I always kept it in good condition and never have I dropped it on the ground. Yesterday I was in my car and using this product with a car set that I have. Everything was...

Pros: Nice and heavy (gives the illusion of quality), small, great storage, easy interface, good sound Cons: DURABILITY & QUALITY!!!!
(plus the manual is an absolute joke)
I bought the 10 GB model (it's the same thing, essentially) from Best Buy about two weeks ago, and absolutely loved it. It was heavy enough, small, and I could put anything and everything on it. The case was made out of a funny spandex material but it...
Pros: 6 GB, purchased from Archos site directly for $200, bargain? Cons: skips/stalls, can't run, jog, or walk w/o skipping, horrible support
I cut and pasted in the letter I sent to Archos along with my defective player. I've also added further text at the letters end concerning the third player I received.
This is the Jukebox 6000 I was told to return after speaking with Archos...
Pros: Price, Mobility, Durability Cons: A bit heavy when comparing to other players.
The navigation button is a bit flimsy.
I originally wanted an iPod. My husband found this sweet little Archos for me, for much less than the iPod. The player is a great value for the space you get.
For the low price of $199.00 you get a great looking player with a ton of space.
This player gives us 20 GB of HD space to store or transport, documents, music, or images. We have saved our CD's life by letting them stay on the shelf.
The Archos Jukebox, a great value, a great buy. Get yours ASAP!
Pros: Inexpensive, great sound, large capacity. Cons: Slow but acceptable transfer speeds.
This is a review for all Santa's that bought a closeout mp3 jukebox player and wondered about all the reviews they read. Fear not as we open our presents early due to airline travel to get to grandmas and can give you the assurance it is definitely worth the money Santa spent. Sound is great, controls are passable and it works like a clock.
Installation from your computer with Windows XP was painless as long as you take the precaution to download the latest USB drivers from the archos.com web site. Latest firmware was already loaded. Play lists being loaded off of MusicMatch was a bit slow using USB 1.1 but what do you want of $99. The IPod may be a bit faster and current but so far I have no regrets. HO HO HO
