Greater than any MP3 player

by guilleman , Apr 24 '06
Pros: Comfortable size, Digital PClink. It record up to 320' on an 80' MD. Low price.
Cons: Its headphones and the remote control doesn't have a display, it could have been better.
Since I bought MZ-R700, I take it everywhere with me. It's very small so you can carry it in the pocket of your jean. You don't need to take many MDs with you because each one records up to 320min. It will never jump. The headphones are not good enough...

I got the Lemon

by fiferjanis , May 01 '05
Pros: Pretty blue case.
Cons: Keeps breaking, costly to have fixed, distortion, non-user-friendly, no (known) digital output, really frustrating
I dunno what everyone else is talking about, but my Sony MZ-R70 is a P.O.S. It didn't work right out of the box, but not knowing anything about minidiscs, I thought they were just prone to skipping all over the place... until it just finally couldn't ...

Big sound in a little package

by pearannoyed Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Dec 08 '04
Pros: Small, lightweight, highly portable, ability to record live music, excellent battery life
Cons: No drag-n-drop transfer, slightly outdated and only available used
Music... it's a big part of my life. Not that I really listen to that much music—I'm more into performing it. Singing in a choir or playing my flute in a small ensemble is one of my favorite ways to take a break from real ...

An old no-frills player, but rock solid.

by foo_bar , Mar 27 '04
Pros: Built to last, quality recordings, Metal case. Does the job at a nice price.
Cons: Cheap remote. Missing newer features like MDLP and NetMD. Some don't like the noisy motor.
I've had my R70 since early 2000, and I still use it every day. I estimate that I've used this MD unit for about two hours a day since the beginning of my college career, and now I'm about to graduate. That says something about the robustness of a Sony ...

A Tough Little Competitor For CD's!!!

by rmskater , May 22 '03
Pros: Small, compact music storage. Can record ANY sound
Cons: Semi-difficult to download "Internet Music". Buttons can get "used".
In a world of copycats, one must stand away from the crowd and dare to be different. This is what Mini-disks do. They stand away from CD's.

I really don't know why Mini-disks aren't more popular. The manufacturers should find a cheaper way to...

Great for recording my boyfriend's concerts!!

by davemetz , May 06 '03
Pros: Excellent sound, really small and light, easy to use
Cons: no premade discs...no backlighting on the display
I bought my MD recorder strictly to record my boyfriend's band. They cannot afford studio time, so I spent a little $ on the recorder, and actually more $ on the microphone, and I recorded one of their shows. I made a cd for him with a little software...

The Pains and Joys of a MD Player

by Percussionist , Mar 24 '03
Pros: Nice Sound, plenty of recording time, easy to use.
Cons: Takes a long time to record, case scratches easily.
I would like to start out by saying that this is my first MiniDisc player and I've had it for over a year now. I picked this model up at a clearance price since Best Buy was making room for the up and coming Net MD players, which have faster burning...

Good MD player, but there are better

by daisuke69 , Feb 05 '03
Pros: Decent sound, portable, AA battery usage, externally rugged, digital in.
Cons: sensitive mechanical parts, color versions lose their paint, no backlit LCD
I write this review after 2 years of owning this unit, it finally died on me about 2 weeks ago and I´ve replaced it with the N505.

This unit was never very good for me, it was always skipping even when it was pretty much new and got worse and...

Better than an mp3 player?

by jvatt24 , Jan 11 '03
Pros: Battery life, size, will impress your friends
Cons: Transfer rate, bump on back, no light up screen, labeling
I have always been a big fan of Sony. I think their products are almost always better than other brands, not that I don't buy other brands occasionaly. Sony has a way of making their products more appealing to me, and for this player it had to be...

Good player for its current price.

by fuzziebio , Dec 10 '02
Pros: Good sound quality, EXREMELY DURABLE!
Cons: Recording from a live source takes a bit to get used to.
A nice MD player/recorder that uses live recording instead of today's NetMD recording. The live recording offers excellent quality, and records at real-time as well. This process, however, does take a while to get used to without causing any audio...

Mmm... Minidisc

by radioheaded123 , Nov 19 '02
Pros: Small, lightweight, stylish- looking
Cons: Remote control detaches from clothing/ backpack straps too easily, buttons not too responsive
Well first off I should tell you the circumstances under which I bought this model. This would be my first Minidisc-related purchase and I had no previous knowledge of anything Minidisc. I was in Japan and Singapore this past vacation and since I heard...

Music to my Ears!!!!

by crump13 , Aug 01 '02
Pros: Size, Battery Life, Quality sound, Lots of Music
Cons: If you choose to title each song it is time consuming
First and foremost let me start out by explaining my "need" for some sort of portable music storage device. I purchased a Suzuki Marauder motorcycle (see "Marauder.....Great bike" for more details) a year ago and I have spent 15,500 long miles using a...

a great little machine

by pjlead , Jul 30 '02
Pros: Battery life, long play, optical line-in, mic input, very light
Cons: remote control, no 'return to start' button, no line-out
Quick review: great machine - great battery life, great quality. It's funky, i love it. It's got long play, which is grand. If you want to know about my little idiosyncratic issues with the way it works, read on. Other reviews have already covered how...

I dig the Sony MZ-R700 MiniDisc Recorder

by lindsee , Jun 26 '02
Pros: sound quality impressive, lightweight and miniature, great for concert goers!
Cons: easily damaged if dropped, fragile
This review would most likely help people that want to buy this product to record live shows. I purchased this minidisc recorder about 6 months ago and did not know what to expect at first because at that point I knew nothing about minidisc...
