  • Best handheld binocs for the power

Rated a Somewhat Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Oct 2, 2011
Pros: Stable image for the super power, rugged for outdoors, good low light optics
Cons: Too big and heavy for small hands, eats batteries, IS image can drift

Summary: I've been using these for over five years. I wanted super strong binocs for wildlife observation without the need for a tripod. These are very powerful with bright optics, good low light gathering, but the important thing is the IS (image stabilization). ... read more

    Pros: Excellent optics, effective stabilization
    Cons: Bulky, heavy, inadequate neckstrap

Summary: I've been using the Canon 15x50 IS for about a month now, mostly for nighttime stargazing. I've been using high quality 10x50, 8x56 and 7x50 binoculars for this purpose for over a decade. Binoculars offer wide views and bright images for backyard ... read more

  • money well spent

Rated a Somewhat Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Sep 27, 2005
Pros: 50mm objective lens for night, image stabilizer, 5min shutoff timer, quality optics
Cons: high price (but comparable to other good units) no battery life indicator.

Summary: If you intend to spend a chunk of money on a GOOD pair of binoculars and are looking at high end names like Zeis or Swarovski then you owe it to yourself to consider spending some of that money on the gyro stabilized canon 15x50IS model. I also have the ... read more

  • Canon 15x50IS Binoculars

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    May 29, 2004
Pros: Sharp images; very good color correction; smooth and accurate focusing; water resistant.
Cons: Image stabilization very good, but not "perfect"; a bit pricey; slightly heavy.

Summary: Having owned or viewed through virtually every brand of binocular out there, I guess you could consider me somewhat of a binogeek. I purchased the Canons primarily for astronomy, but find them great for terrestrial use as well. First off, image ... read more

Pros: Optical Quality, Edge Sharpness, excellent stabilization
    Cons: eyecups could be better

Summary: I bought these binoculars for daytime and astronomical night viewing. I just spent an hour using them at lunch and am extremely impressed with their optical quality. I find that I can handhold them relatively well, and with the stabilization on, the ... read more

  • OK but not great

    Oct 10, 2004
Pros: Power Image stabilised great view awe factor
Cons: heavy and big field of view for moving objects price

Summary: These binos are good for getting up close and personal with intended objects. The IS works reasonably well and the image is clear. The ability to see across the water for miles the great detail and the view of the moon is nothing less than spectacular. ... read more

    Jul 2, 2012
Pros: optics, image stabilization, build quality
Cons: weight, eye relief, lack of objective lens covers

Summary: I've had these for several years using them for general nature viewing and the night sky. The optics are sharp, gather a lot of light, and the image stabilization is top-notch. Now for the downside. They are very heavy. You may well need to rest your ... read more

Pros: Size, Weight, Feel, Design, Optical Quality
    Cons: Image Blur

Summary: I evaluated the Canon 15 X 50 IS AW's for 2 weeks. They are a well constructed with ergonomics in mind. The new stabilization button is a great improvement from the former models. The focus knob is smooth a silk. The size, weight, feel, design and ... read more
