Pros: Solid, dependable, well documented. Cons: Should have come with NimH batteries
After reading all I could find on dig cameras and narrowing my choice down to the Olympus 3030 and the Nikon 990 for semi-professional use, I decided on the Nikon.
I picked up the Olympus, played with it etc. Picked up the Nikon and knew instantly...

Pros: swivel body, multiple modes, ease of use in automatic mode, quality of images Cons: red-eye, poor flash range, hard to focus in low light
I take this camera everywhere. It does eat batteries if you like to look at the LCD, so I carry 4 sets of rechargeables. It's hard to get a bad photo with this camera; that's why I have almost 8000 shots filed on CD since June of 2000 when I bought it....

Pros: Small, easy to use, and takes great pics Cons: Slow download without separate drive
I used this camera this past summer on a camping trip with 25 junior high students. We used it to take pictures of the kids activities to send home via e-mail for the kids' parents. This camera worked great! I enjoyed using this digital camera so much...

Pros: Great features, if I ever get the software I paid for. Cons: Outrageously bad telephone support.
I bought a Nikon Coolpix 990 camera on June 23.
When I unpacked the camera, I noticed that some of the software that was supposed to be in the box was not there, but--in its place--was a piece of yellow paper referring the buyer to a "24...

I have been using my Nikon 990 professionally (I am an off-road magazine photographer), and this is absolutely my favorite digital camera out of a dozen that I own and use. It has produced clearer pictures, and less problems than any other brad I've used. I take it everywhere with me, and it has held up great to world of abuse - dust, banging around, etc. I have put almost 100,000 photos through this camera, and it still works as good as the day I purchased it. HIGHLY recommended.

A fine camera. A separate (inexpensive) card reader essential to avoid battery drain. Also two sets of rechargeable NiMH 1800mAH AA batteries equally important

Not very happy with the camera. May look into another, smaller digital camera that the battery's last longer than 10 minutes while you download.

I have owned this camera...
by kbrkr_dt3000 ,Jan 30 '03
I have owned this camera for 2 years.
Cons: Swivel lens, can add telephoto and wide angle lenses, long battery life, uses compactflash, great control over aperature, shutter speed and film speed. Great Optics, Macro ability
Optically the Nikon has no rival. The picture quality at 8x10 is outstanding. The color saturation and white balance is also outstanding. Once you get the Menu settings set, you just point-and-shoot just like any other camera. You have great control over photo settings with this camera, or you can just use it like any other Point-and-shoot. The focusing is fast and the flash adequate for small venues and recharges quickly. Using Nimh batteries carries the power requirements of the camera a long time for both flash use and outdoor usage.
It's just a great camera -- I'd get it if I were you.

I love the quality of the camera and the flexibility it offers. Overcame battery drain on download by purchasing a Zio flash card reader - much like an external drive - download AND upload in a snap. Would like stronger flash for low light and outdoor night shots.
