Pros: Professional quality video, LCD monitor Cons: Expensive for the home video tape enthusiasts, good for the professional.
I have been a cable TV producer for three years. During that time I have used a hand held cam corder as well as the more professional model cam corders that use full size S tape. Nothing comes close to the quality of Digital.
Pros: Three-chip, 530 lines resolution, LCD monitor, awesome audio Cons: Too expensive for the casual, non-Bill Gates home videgrapher
Sony brought the DCR-VX1000 camcorder to the market in 1995. A workhorse, this MiniDV camera dominated the three-chip* camcorder field. Sturdy and grey, sporting a utilitarian look, the VX1000 provided high-quality video image capture for everybody from...
The Sony VX2000 is the older brother to the famous VX1000 a camera that has made its mark on the documentary and news gathering industry in a big way. That high mark has now been surpassed. I used the VX1000 to pick up some quick shots for our...
Pros: Sharpest picture in it's class, Great Lowlight, Relatively inexpensive Cons: Some noise in manual audio gain, maybe to sharp, no replaceable lens
Well, OK, Sony's newest and bestest "pro-sumer" Mini-DV camcorder is out, the VX-2000 (along with the similar PD150, which has a B&W finder instead of the color one on the VX-2000, XLR audio inputs instead of mini-jacks, an accessory mono shotgun mic...
The handheld camcorders are good for on the road shots, but the quality isn't there and once a dub is made, the quality decreases even more. So in order to have a quality production it was necessary to invest in a high end model recorder. The digital...
Pros: Great CCD's, Sharp clear image, lightweight Cons: No removable lenses
Sony is top of the game when it comes to consumer camcorders, but how about pro-sumer? Well the DCR-VX2000 shows exactly what Sony's got. This is the best of the best of Sony's DCR series. The big question that comes up with the Sony VX2000 is...
The Sony is fantastic. It is very expensive, but it's features are incredible. The most interesting feature is the 3CCD(one for each color-red,green,and blue). I am also very impressed with its playback because of its progressive scan feature.
This...
Pros: A professional Quality Camcorder at a consumer price. Cons: None that I can think of even at three grand it is a steal!
I have a Sony dcr-vx1000 and for two and a half years it was and still is an amazing camera. I have shot over forty different events from weddings to plays in those two years and never did my VX1000 fail me! I thought there is no way sony can make this...
Pros: Great improvement on VX1000, flip out screen, memory stick. Cons: Somewhat cumbersome, expensive.
Having used the VX1000 for the past three years, I have had a love/hate relationship with the camera. It has great image quality, but it is rather clunky to use, lacks a flip-out screen, and was not convenient for taking stills. So you can be...
Pros: Low light ability, good picture quality, good sound quality Cons: Too many features for the average user to care about
Background
This is the latest contender in the world of prosumer camcorders. It has some significant advantages over it's archrival - the Canon GL1. Most notable is it's performance in low light situations. This can be attributed to it's...
Pros: LCD monitor = great picture quality simply awesome audio Cons: very expensive
Sony has loaded the VX2000 with some great features. This camera has progressive scan HAD 3CCD pickups. A CCD is what is used to pick up color light and convert it to electrical pulses, most low-end cameras have 1 CCD that handle all three colors (RGB =...
Everyone from Television producers to those hard-working Wedding recorders use the VX2000. Your local news might very well be shot on the 2000. It's an amazing camera with a lot of options.
Pros: great picture and lots of proffesional features Cons: hard to adjust audio and exposure manually, small viewfinder
Let me start this out by saying I have owned this camera for about a week and these are just my first impressions of this camera. This is my first digital video camera. My previous camera was a Canon L1. The picture on this is phenominal when compared...
Pros: great picture quality Cons: ease of use, poor sound quality, customer support
A great looking slick machine with 4 major defects:
Customer Support
Whatever you do, don't buy this camera. Although it has a great picture quality it is extremely hard to use. It took me a couple of hours, most spent waiting...
Pros: Image, portability, Cons: Hiss problem, small LCD screen
Let's start this review by stating what is WRONG with the VX2000:
1) When the 'Auto Gain Control' is turned off (and sound levels are manually operated) you'll have a terrible sounding hiss on top of anything you film. It's a well known...
Pros: handle, LCD screen, crisp video playback Cons: some buttons are confusing
I have been a camera man for about a year now, and this camcorder can shoot in almost every angle. It has a sturdy handle so a person can record while running while keeping a smooth and clean shot.
Pros: Wonderful picture and sound quality; LCD screen; three-chip CCD Cons: Pricey at over $3,000; bulky
In the mid-90s, Sony came out with the VX1000, a professional quality digital camcorder loaded with features and under $5,000. Sony makes claims that this is used professionally, by newscasters, independent (and even some major studio) filmmakers,...
Pros: very powerfull three chip camera, light weight compared to other cameras in it's class. Cons: The battery life is a bit short, I recommend two batteries.
Sony does it again with this three chip monster of a digital video camera. This camera brings power of digital video out of the closet and into your hands.
Features
There are quite a lot of features that stand out in this camera....
Pros: Excellent Video, Many Many Excellent Manual Controls, Excellent Low Light Performance, Cool Design Cons: Bulky, No 30fps Progressive Scan Video (only 15fps)
I still remember my first experience with camcorders. It was an old full sized VHS Memorex camcorder my family baught when I was 12. Now I'm 25 and boy have camcorders changed. No more analog, all digital now! Of recent years I have had an oppurtunity to...
Pros: Great quality Imaging, easy to use, great features Cons: expensive
I have had a lot of trouble with camcorders, from faulty lenses to broken circuitry and all this had happened without me even taking the thing out of the box. So when it came time to buy a new camcorder i thought reliability, quality, and a name to back...
Pros: Full manual control, custom presets, versatile, all controls in the correct position. Cons: Anodised finish looks "plasticky" and marks easily, no overide switch to maintain standby mode.

Colour rendition and white balance are faithfully reproduced in even low light, fluorescent lighting, and markedly...
Pros: Low light shooting is perfect, ergonomically correct, crisp clean sound, long lasting battery life. Cons: No record button on top handle
This camera is amazing. I own a small film company called Growling Dog Productions. We make action sports videos. We previously had a smaller Sony for only the close up stuff. When I first got it I wasn't really sure how it was going to compare to the ...
Pros: The excellent automatic and low light functions- Quality and ease of use. Cons: Of course- PRICE
I must admit I am a skeptical buyer. I purchased a Sony TRV67 but returned it because I was unsatisfied with the microphone and picture quality. I then purchased a Sony VX2000 from National Camera and Video for 2,899. As a student interested in film,...
Pros: quality video & audio, lots of options, DV quality, size of camera Cons: price can be steep, you just have to search for a good one
As I read through others reviews of Sony's Vx-2000 camera I couldn't help but think that most of them had probably never touched this particularly camera before. I am currently working for a film production studio in MI, and all we have for our mini-DV...

The DV format offers versatility and unprecedented performance, acclaimed by professional videographers and casual camcorder users alike. Digital Video Recording Offering higher resolution, wider color bandwidth, and lower noise than virtually any other...

Hello,

Pros: Well balanced, Handle, 3CCD's, Memory Stick Cons: Not for the beginner, can't change the lens
I purchaced the Sony VX-2000 because I am making a skateboard video. I spent 2 months researching every camcorder under the sun and after countless hours on the internet and talking to a dozen camera shops, the VX-2000 was the obvious choice
Pros: Great For Taking...ANYWHERE Cons: other people will stare
This camcorder has got to be the greatest of all camcorders. I took it with me on my recent trip to Florida. The pictures are clear sounds is clear and the auto focus is the best I've ever used. The only thing I found that I didn't like about this...
I love this camera it is fully featured and easy to use, the playback quality of the video I recorded was astounding. There is only one problem, it costs $3000, and that is simply too much for what it does. When i recorded my family vacation to Florida...
This camcorder is probably one of the best ever made. The quality of the picture and sound is exellent. When watching the videos this camera produces...you will be amazed at what you see. It seems as though you are actually watching what's happening...
Pros: I like being the "director" and it's got everything! Cons: I found my self reading all of Christmas Day finding out of the use it.
Have you ever wanted to be the "director" of your sons first t-ball game, first soccer game or whatever. Well this is the camera for the rich person who wants all around capabilities.
I found my-self giving it to my son, age 15, bringing...
Pros: Good clarity, styling, and fold out veiwer. Cons: At 3,200 you should use this camera for more than birthday parties.
If your semi serious about video recording or your just loaded and looking for a fun toy you came to the right opinion. The SONY DCR-VX2000 is the second in a line of camera recorders that started in 1995. The first, DCR-VX1000, was also a 3 chip...
3,200?!?!?!?!?! What?! You have to be kidding me. I borrowed this camcorder from a friend and when she told me the price, I gave it right back. I'm not going to handle a device that costs one fourth the price of my car. It takes pictures though, freezes...
The Sony DCR-VX2000 Digital Camcorder is the best Digital Camcorder out there. I have never seen one like it! The Movie Quality is great and it is so easy to use!
Right out of the box I was able to get it up and running. And thats not easy to say...
Still an Excellent Camera! by distorshun ,Mar 09 '07
Pros: Excellent quality, great low light performance, very affordable. Cons: None other than the fact that it is a slightly older model.
I know I know, this review should have been written 6 years ago, but I'm here to tell you that the Sony VX2000 is still a great camera! I have 2 VX2000's which I use for wedding videography and find that they perform exceptionally. The picture quality is excellent, the low light (1 lux) is probably one of the camera's greatest assets in alot of the low light situations that you will run into shooting weddings. I have not had any problems with either of my cameras...but I do take care of them well and avoid using the deck to rewind, ff, etc. The prices on these cameras are excellent now due to the fact that it is an older model and most retail outlets are selling the newer VX2100. You can find a good VX2000 on E-Bay for $1,200 to $1,500...a great price for an excellent camera.
Sony makes another fine product! by EARLSIMPSON ,Nov 08 '03
Pros: Price, features Cons: no XLR inputs
Summary: Outstanding camera for the $$$$
Review: I am just beginning to learn the features of this quality camera. But my initial impression is WOW! I bought it and the sony DSC72 from 6th Ave. They are an authorized Sony dealer and also had a great price. They charged my card two days after it shipped. WOW!!! Double boxed and everything worked out of the box. Full US warranty! Factory sealed! What can I say. I am a happy customer. PS// This is the 5th product I have purchased from 6th ave in two years.
Accurate, Fast, Great Feel and Fun to use by hwillnow2 ,Oct 07 '03
Pros: Great feel and looks. Three ccd sensors make accurate color reproduction. Cons: Need to use the remote with playback since buttons are so small.
I am not a professional video guy. I am a professional still photographer. I purchased this camera to take movies of my grandkids. I wanted a serious camera with a real capabilities.
The feel is great, the image quality is sharp and if you don't care to use all the features you can set it on automatic and just shoot away. Sound quality is outstanding using only the mike on the camera. The lens shoots in very low light. I purchased the 2 1/2 hour battery the camera uses very little power even with the video screen open.
When in bright sun the camera tells you which Density filter to use, two of them built right into the camera. I get a lot of comments every time I use it. You don't even notice camera shake when playing your video back.
Pros: Great pro camera great picture good in low light 3 chips Cons: A lot of buttons from front to back , 12x lens (kinda short)
Just used these cameras this week .Very good in low light !!.Good zoom control.Nice sharp lens. Color rendition very good!!!! Nice new lens covering system; a button closes these barn doors around the lens...no more lost lens caps!!!! Cool. It has zebras too . Nice size flip out screen. The color view finder is usable. There is a lot of menus and buttons all over the camera. It gets kinda crazy trying to look for a button when shooting.
The zoom ring and manual focus flip switch are close together and feel the same to touch when not looking. Tapes in LP mode too. Weight distribution is even. This is a very good camera in all aspects. Better than a lot of cameras that are out there that cost more. Made for a professional but a beginner could learn to use it with in a week.
Auto focus works very well . Longer lasting aftermarket batteries should be bought as usual.

UPDATE-
CCD Sensor Problems in Consumer Imaging Products
The camera just went down this week of August 2007
I have not had any problems, period. I shoot weddings, and the quality of the picture in low lighting conditions is better than expected. I have the 8-hour battery and can shoot all day long on a single charge. The zoom and focus rings will take some getting used to, however, both give you fine adjustment control once you get the hang of it.
I am in the process of buying another one immediately, and another in a few months.

Generally, I use cameras with less bulk, because as nice as it is to have some weight on your shoulder for steadiness, it does seem big when filming in small spaces. But when it came to the VX-2000, everything else great about it pushed that to the back of my mind.
I cannot be happier. The... by rooskie_dt3000 ,Mar 21 '03
I cannot be happier. The video quality is so remarkable, you find yourself just admiring the quality of the video and not paying attention to what is being displayed! Works real well w/my computer. I,too, wish I had 2. It is hard to decide which less-expensive camcorder to buy to do two-camera production work that will come close to the picture quality of this unit. Also has a feature that can transfer your VHS tapes to digital format. Excellent low-light sensitivity.Zoom ring provides excellent zoom control, once you get used to using it, as opposed to the zoom switch. The switch is a bit touchy, but the ring gives you finer control over zoom.
I shoot documentaries, theatrical and commercials for business. This camera does it all. I got my training on the Sony DSR-500 Betacam, and aside from the electronic zoom function this camera will do everything the 500 will do. I don't use the onboard mic, so I am not aware of the audio problems I hear about. With a full set of accessories, and a professional tripod, I can do all the work I need to do with this camera. It is light, powerful, and easy to use once you learn the menus. It does a lot of stuff, so it takes some education to use it to it's full potential. I particurlarly like the accuracy of the white balance and zebra stripes. I had to bracket a few shots to learn the sweet spot, but once I had it, the camera has performed flawlessly since. I own 4 other Sonys, this is by far my favorite. Because it is so small, by comparison, for what it will do, I can pack an entire set of gear in a single travel bag and I am ready to go anywhere.
