Pros: Excellent picture and sound, a lot of inputs, looks good, features, reliable, universal remote

The BEST value in a DVD player!

by glake Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Mar 22 '01
Pros: Reliable name brand with all the most used features and then some.
Cons: Some technophiles may want more 'fancy' features.
Sony's DVP-S360 is their lowest cost DVD player. At $299.00 list price and often on sale for $249.00, I think it's the best value out there. That doesn't mean it's for everyone. Some people may feel the need to have multiple disks, a video equalizer,...

The Sony DVP-S360 is definitely an excellent product. I am not going to claim to know a lot about the world of DVD players, because I don't, but what I do know is that the $235 I paid for this item was well worth it.

Sony DVP-S360 DVD Player -- Not the Most Bang for the Buck

by radioguy Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Dec 06 '00
Pros: Comprehensive Set of Features, Component Video Output
Cons: Can't Do Progressive Scan, Costs More than Similarly-Equipped Models
The DVP-S360 is Sony's bottom-of-the-line single-disc DVD player. You can usually find it on sale for about $250. Compared to other single-disc players with similar features, the S360 is a bit pricey. It's not hard to find players with the same feature...

A simple all-around great DVD player

by TrunksGT , Sep 28 '00
Pros: Easy to use, simple, works great
Cons: a little too much on-screen display
Now don't get me wrong, you can go ahead and spend $500-$1000 for a DVD player, but what is the point? All they do is play DVDs... sure some can hold more Discs, or have more powerful features, but they all do the same thing.

And if you dont...

HORRIBLE DVD PLAYER, LAWSUIT SETTLED
by tai69 ,Apr 05 '08
Pros: None, this player freezes, skips & repeats.
Cons: SONY settled a class action lawsuit for this player read my review.
This DVD player is really garbage, ignore the good reviews they were written back in 2001 when DVDS were new and they were impressed with the improvement of DVD picture over VHS video tapes.

I bought this DVD player years back for around $300. It has been very problematic. It is an older model so it only plays DVDs and CDs. It is very temperamental and the smallest mark or scratch on a DVD will cause this player to skip, freeze or start at the beginning of the chapter again. There is also the famous C13 error messages which means the DVD player can't play the DVD.

There was a class action lawsuit with SONY over several DVD players including this one. SONY settled it and anyone who bought or was given this model as a gift in the United States is entitled to a settlement. You can receive a $40 voucher or a refurbised Sony DVD player.

Sony DVP S-360 Audio abruptly stopped working

We have this DVD player with us since about 4 years. It was working alright and then all of a sudden the Audio stopped working--just can't hear anything. This was about two days back.

by ohm62 ,Jul 03 '06
Pros: Great feature set, as other authors mentioned... Unfortunate it would hardly last over a year!
Cons: Expensive. Waste of money, time (trying to get it fixed) and patience.
This thing started failing shortly after the warranty was over. Typical from Sony. Feature full (and expensive) but CHEAPLY MADE absolutely not durable. Now, it will only work with a few DVDs in my collection. Displays Error C-13 for most. Sometimes suddenly displays pixelized images then jumps back to earlier scenes... What a major piece of crap.

Great DVD player that does not last
by kaprod ,Apr 14 '04
Pros: Easy to use, good remote, looks nice.
Cons: Doesn't last past its second birthday. Sony should be better quality.
I spent more for this DVD because it was a SONY. The DVD plays great, has great picture quality and the remote was simple to use and did not appear to be sluggish. I just loved it!

Then all of the sudden I would get C 13 00 errors on brand new DVDs. The manual states the C 13 error is a "dirty or scratched disk" which is unlikely on unopened DVD's. It recommended cleaning the disk. I took the player apart to clean the lens carefully to no avail. I noticed the inside had no dust accumulation.

Checking with SONY via e-mail, I was quoted a price of $136 to repair it. Thanks anyway! Even though I like SONY's products, I'll probably look at a JVC or Pioneer for my next one.

A pathetic piece of engineering!!!!

Pros: Good picture, when it works
Cons: Spotty performance, unreliable, short lifespan
I have had the DVP-S360 for almost two years. During that time I have had my share of frozen pictures, skipped chapters and the such and attributed it all along to dusty DVDs. All of a sudden I got the "No disk" message and the "C:1300000" error. Now it will play no DVDs at all. I have an old Panasonic that still works like a champ and has never given me the problems of this "sophisticated" player.
Sony customer support was absolutely worthless and downright rude. Bye, bye Sony...as far as I am concerned I will not purchase any more Sony products and will not recommend them to anybody.

Not a Good Value from Sony

Pros: Multiple video/audio outputs. Nice remote.
Cons: Breaks quite easily, very expensive for price to use ratio.
I usually like Sony products because of all of their bells and whistles. Since I like to keep all of my A/V equipment the same brand, I purchased this Sony without thinking twice. It was bought in the summer of 2000 for $225. I was disappointed that it lacked some features that other DVD players have, such as a zoom function. Also, it will not play CD-Rs, which became a problem. The unit has only been used for 38 hours, and it recently began showing problems. Most discs I tried encountered the infamous C:13:00 problem. Now the unit will not turn on, it just flashes on for 2 seconds and turns off. I have replaced it with a KLH (Apex) unit for $20 that has a lot more functionality, such as MP3 playback and picture CD viewing (I was hoping this unit would be a second player in my house). I will be more careful buying a Sony in the future.

This DVD player is excellent...

This DVD player is excellent for the price. The remote control is very easy to use and (with many DVD players) you can freeze frame, forward and rewind frame by frame, and play specific chapters out of the movie. The on screen programming is also extremely easy to use. The hook up to my television was quick, and it was simple to connect with my stereo for surround sound and playing CDs.
