Pros: professional performance, quality, construction Cons: very pricey, typical "plasma" blacks
When I was a kid in the 50's, I dreamed of having a flat-screen television just like the ones in the comic books. Almost 50 years later my dream became reality when a Sony PFM 510A2WU took center stage in my living room.
Pros: An artwork. Simple to use/operate. Excellent brightness and contrast but black is hazy. Cons: Limited input selections which required special cables. Fan noise.
If you are sensitive to noise (fan noise) and not ready to go for the extra miles to get the HD signal (1080i), I would not recommend Plasma. (BTW, since I can not add my opinion to the Sony Plasma PFM42B1, I will add it here)
Pros: 1024x1024 pels.
HDTV YPbPr 1080i, 720p, 480p.
Heats up room in cold nights. Cons: noisy blacks.
Weak Picture quality&color purity.
Fuzzy picture @1600x1200,
Heats up room in warm nights.
I've always wanted this since I started watching TV, and despite the steep price, which is still steep, despite the Scientific America articles about plasma burnout, this set just kept calling my name. :)
Pros: Looks and acts like a high quality, very flexible Monitor Cons: Cost is high for most . Poor video black
The purchase of a Plasma screen is one of the most difficult and exciting endevors I have ever done. Let me see if I can share a little of what I have learned.
The Sony PFM 510A2W is an excellent monitor. Be very careful when shopping for one...
