I wanted to write this review because other reviews were helpful in my decision to buy this camcorder. Also, this camcorder doesn't get enough recognition! I was looking for a camcorder that captures good video and audio. Still photos weren't...
Pros: Excellent image quality, good handling and control placement Cons: Small viewfinder, extended battery gets in the way of the viewfinder, no indication of manual focus position
I originally bought a Canon ZR-10 (see Epinions review online) and sent it back to the store and paid the difference in cash for a Canon Optura Pi. I wanted a high quality miniDV camcorder with optical stabilization, high resolution and famous Canon...
I think the Canon Optura Pi is the best single chip camcorder you can buy. And when you think about it, its not priced that high. I say this after about three months of researching various camcorders on the market (and choosing this one).
Pros: Ease of use, large LCD, optical image stabilization & clarity. Cons: DV output requires LCD monitor to be open.
It took a while for me to settle on the Optura Pi. I decided I wanted to make a no-budget documentary as a personal endeavor... a sort of exploratory project aimed at learning more about people, thought processes and motivations.
Pros: Great Performance, Solidly Built, Easy to Use. Cons: Too minor to list.
Hello video enthusiasts! Wanted to share my experiences with you regarding camcorders. Whether you are buying your first unit, or are replacing an older one, this should help. First let me tell you that I have not purchased a camcorder since 1986 (I was...
Pros: Great video color, true color representation, excellent low-light capabilities, OPTICAL image stabilization Cons: none
I purchased this camcorder a couple of months ago and have been extremely pleased with it. I have used it mostly for capturing social events so far, and while its outdoor capabilities are brilliant, its indoor performance is what really sets it apart...
Pros: Low-light, progressive-scan, 3.5" screen Cons: No memory stick or hi-res stills
When I was first looking at camcorders, I ended up comparing the total feature sets of the various choices and went for the JVC GRDVL9800, which gives you the best bang for the buck, including built-in flash, 1024 x 768 stills, memory stick, lots of...
Pros: progressive scan CCD, bright 3.5" LCD, ease of use Cons: battery life, placement of VCR buttons
Before I purchased this camcorder, I was considering the Canon GL1 or the Sony DCR-TRV900. Both were above the $2000 mark, so I waited for something new to be released that was around my $1500 budget. Weeks later, I hear about the Canon Optura Pi, and...
Pros: Excellent video quality
Low light performance
size
LCD screen size and resolution
Cons: none
I purchased this camera after returning a JVC mini DV model GR-DVL805U camcorder.
It was raining during a birthday party and I had to film under fluorescent lighting with my JVC. When I played back the tape at home I was very unhappy, the video had...
Pros: Good low light performance, excellent in good light. Cons: Mediocre battery life; so-so ergonomics for controls
A month ago I decided to purchase a DV camcorder for the purpose of recording business presentations and placing them on the web. After many hours of research I decided that the following criteria were essential:
Pros: Optical image stabilizer, good low light Cons: None so far
After doing a lot of research and handling a lot of digital camcorders, I decided the Optura Pi fit my needs best of all. I'm expecting my first child soon and I expect to be shooting lots of home movies and making video clips to share on the web. ...
Bought camera for a trip to Ireland with my wife. We learned to use it on the fly without any problems. It worked wonderful. We took still and motion pictures. We then used it to record holiday events, showing relatives thru TV connection. This...
Pros: Good Stabilization. Good LCD Display. Playback Controls on LCD Screen. Cons: Very Poor Quality in playback and dubbing. Mulitple cameras with the same problem. Unreliable!
I have had to return two Optura PI cameras due to playback problems. Both cameras experienced video and audio distortion when playing back dubbed tapes from either a VCR or DC50 Video Capture Card. Also some of the recordings from the same camera...
