  • Minolta Vectis S-100

    Aug 24, 2001 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Extremely compact SLR, light weight, acceptable optics and superb automatic light metering.
Cons: APS film systems limitations. Visible grain in some prints; enlargements over 5x7 are a risk.

Summary: This was an impulse buy which turned out surprisingly acceptable. Picked up a Vectis S-100 as a price point item ($199.99) the day before an Alaska cruise to backup my trusty and heavier 35mm SLR. I've tried point and shoot cameras of every ... read more

  • Another great Minolta

    Feb 13, 2003 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Ease of use Quality of picture Splash-proof design
Cons: Limited variety of film available

Summary: I have delayed jumping on the APS bandwagon fearing it would be another film fad. Eight years into the program I feel safe that it will be around for a while. As a longtime user of vintage equipment, the Minolta S-1 seemed an odd choice at first. But ... read more

  • Vectis S-1 Tops

    Jan 22, 2002 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Mid-Roll Change, Maxxum features with APS advantages
Cons: can't get big enlargements, expensive lenses

Summary: I bought my Vectis S-1 about a two months ago here in the UK for an excellent price of £129 ($190) which included the 28-56 lens, and am tentatively very happy with it. Since then have purchased 80-240 APO zoom lens, SF-1 Flash system, remote control, ... read more

  • This is a fun camera

    Dec 3, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Lightweight and full of options.
Cons: really none that can't be attributed to dirt buildup internally.

Summary: I bought this camera because I am a tech-head and like all the new toys. My initial readings on the APS system mostly had the point and shoot types which had no appeal to me. I came across the S-1 and have had a relatively problem-free experience. ... read more

  • I like it, but with reservations

    Aug 21, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Very solidly built
    Cons: Lenses expensive

Summary: I bought this camera as a first SLR, I have previously had a compact APS camera, and I am reasonably happy with the film format, but wanted to learn more about photography and experiment a bit. I bought the camera in the UK, as a kit with ... read more

  • Awesome Pictures

    Jul 23, 2000 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Ease of use, zoom, amazing photos
Cons: High price, a little to accurate

Summary: When I first purchased this Minolta Vectis S-1, I was amazed. The price was kind of high but I can't complain due to the very vivid, lively photos. The options on the camera are great. It is very easy to use, considering all the options, and you also ... read more

  • The hastle free alternative to 35mm

    May 20, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Light, easy to operate, 35mm features with APS ease.
Cons: More expensive film and developing.

Summary: Having used a high-end 35mm camera and an low-end APS camera I was ready for the next step. I wanted the ability to change lenses and control the aperture and/or shutter speed. I also wanted the ease of the APS cartridge and the different picture sizes. ... read more

  • Is APS SLR Camera a Niche?

    Apr 25, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Compact, easy-to-use, great for beginners to learn on
Cons: 35mm cameras can do better for less cost per film

Summary: I was shopping for a second camera to go with my trusty 35mm SLR Canon EOS Rebel camera, and decided to give the APS film format a try. Even though I've been told that the optical resolution of APS was inferior to 35mm film, I was attracted to APS's ... read more

  • S-1 APS

    Dec 13, 1999 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Weight
    Cons: Control Location

Summary: I purchased the Vectis S-1 for two reasons. The first is I wanted to go to a full SLR type APS camera because I like the picture quality. The second is that it was the best buy in my price range at my local full service camera store. The ... read more
