Pros: 2.1 megapixel with 3.3 capable. custom scripting, point and shoot Cons: confusing feature selections and confusing camera reactions
The digital revolution has taken off and I am fully onboard. The Kodak DC290 purchase I just made was an upgrade to the DC240 1.3 mega pixel camera I bought about a year and a half ago. The premise then was to buy the 240 and give it to my father as a...
Pros: Excellent color reproduction and fine detail reproduction, a lot of features, allows you store uncompressed images, USB interface Cons: This kind of performance doesn't come cheap
The Kodak DC290 digital camera is not one of the cheapest - currently it costs around $600. But you get a lot for this price. It has two megapixel resolution (1,792 x 1,200) and allows to take uncompressed TIFF pictures to avoid loss in picture...
Pros: excellent pictures, sound recording, sturdy build, low light capabilities, USB connectivity Cons: shutter lag, drains alkaline batteries quickly, no neck strap included
I was a little leery of buying this camera due to some of the reviews I have read, but something kept telling me that I wanted this camera. I went to try out some other digitals, Fuji 4700, Olympus 3000, ect. I finally went with my gut feeling and bought...
Pros: very good picture quality Cons: not for taking pictures of kids
I write this review as I wait for the Airborne Express guy to come take my DC290 back to outpost.com. The camera has some positive attributes (see the other reviews if you want to learn about those), but some big flaws which make the camera not worth...
Pros: sharp images, great color reproduction, neat features, intuitive interface Cons: battery gauge needs re-written.
Overview
The DC290 is a 2.1 Megapixel camera (meaning it can take optical pictures at a high enough resolution to store 2.1 million pixels) which was top of the line for Kodak's personal digital cameras when we bought it. I feel that it is...
Pros: So easy to use from Point and Shoot to Uploading! Cons: The flash reaction is slow.
I do not think that Kodak could have done a better job with the design of a digital camera. The Kodak DC-290 is my first digital camera. I could use it and take great shots within five minutes after taking it out of the box.
Pros: Good, solid camera, suitable for the everyday user Cons: If you're a professional photographer, this camera is not for you.
Bottom line: Easy-to-use camera takes clear and crisp pictures. Ability for you to write "scripts" for the camera is a big plus if your a techno-geek. Included software is great for everyday user, but lacks for the power user and...
Pros: ok at snapshots Cons: underexposes without flash, battery life, price, no AC adaptor!
My disclaimer(s): I use it mostly for photos destined to go onto the web, but I have been both a magazine staff photographer and freelanced, and so I took it out for a free ranging spin with my snobbish opinion firmly in tow.
The DC290 is the latest Kodak prosumer camera available as of today (Nov. 1999). I recently got a chance to test one out (Although I could not keep it (sniff, sniff)
It has 2.15MPP resolution and includes a 3.3MPP interpolated mode. Storage memory is...
Pros: High resolution pics great for printing. Cons: Shutter release delay can be frustrating.
I picked up the Kodak DC290 about a year ago for a whopping $1400 Canadian ($900 US). Last week, I saw it advertised on www.futureshop.ca for $499 (an on-line special). I'm sure you lucky Americans have had deals like this for months already. If...
Pros: Zoom Capability,20mb card, recharging batteries, great reprints on Epson printer. Cons: Would like more Zoom
I've been searching for an inexpensive digital camera to fill a certain niche. This camera is it. I'm able to do studio and location photos which require quick turn-around and good quality prints up to 8x10. The 290 is very nice at this. I've NEVER shot...
Pros: Good price; semi-pro camera; 3MP range W/Digita Scripting and GPS interface capability Cons: Needs bigger card, eats batteries
SHORT AND SWEET
I highly recommend the Kodak DC-290. It is an entry level semi-professional (sub $1000) digital camera in the low mega-pixel (3.3) range with both Digita scripting and GPS interface capability. You may need additional (or larger)...
Pros: Image quality, accurate auto-sensors Cons: Large size
About two years ago I fell in love with the Kodak DC line of digicams when I borrowed a teacher's DC-40 (by then already an old camera -- the very first Kodak model to come out back in '95). It was a breathtaking quality upgrade from my old Casio QV-10...
Pros: Great specs, great value, CompactFlash, USB, extras, software, support Cons: hmmmm- still thinkin'
Kodak knows digital cameras. They also understand a thing or two about software, support, and customer satisfaction. The DC290 is a perfect example of their dedication to staying on top of the digital camera market.
Pros: every feature in the book, super clear photos Cons: battery monster, must have win98
This has been my first experience with a digital camera. I think that I am really spoiled now. The Kodak has so many features and functions that it can be a daunting task to figure out. One of the greatest things about the Kodak 290 is that you can...
Pros: Easy to use, USB capable Cons: So-so software bundle, unimpressive LCD screen
I chose the Kodak DC-290 because I was looking for a Megapixel camera that offered zoom features and the CompactFlash (tm) storage option. The DC-290 was advertised with a 20 megabyte CompactFlash card, but I was pleasantly surprised when it was...
Pros: Superb Image Capture Cons: Price could be better
There are already 45 other great opinions posted about this camera, so I won't rehash a lot of what has been said here, but will address some negative comments that have been made about the camera.
Pros: Outstanding features and photos Cons: Eats batteries like an aardvark eats ants
My camera needs are simple. They always have been, even when I fancied myself a serious amateur photographer. A Nikon FM2 has been a loyal companion. My Yashica T4 is a great point-and-shoot scout camera which has never ceased to pleasantly surprise...
Pros: Images, features, price, design Cons: Purchase of external AC power,
I have come to learn that high tech toys are a vice just like any other non-life sustaining material object. I've never needed to drink, smoke or take non prescription drugs in order to enjoy myself. But I do suffer from "the one who dies with the...
Pros: Great photos, can add lenses and filters, large dynamic range in photos. Cons: A little on the pricey side.
I recently received the Kodak DC290 Digital Camera as a gift. Was I in heaven!
I have wanted to upgrade to a digital camera with zoom and megapixel capabilities, and this camera has all that and more. It will go to a 3X optical zoom, and has lens...
Pros: Easy to use, 2" LCD screen, use of Digita scripts, professional image quality, 3x zoom Cons: Batterys dead after 40 pictures, MAJOR lag time
After reading many reviews, I found that this product was for me. Although it fit well for my uses, I think that the majority of people would find it not to be for them. The major offset is the unpredictable lag time between when you press the shutter...
Pros: Great pictures, Audio, 2 megapixel, 3x zoom, USB Cons: Dark LCD, pricey, lack of documentation, flimsy battery door
WOW! This is one solid camera. Great pictures - A step above the the DC280, but I wish the LCD was brighter. My name is Steve, and I sell digicams. (not the steve from www.steves-digicams.com) This camera is a great camera, and I would highly...
Pros: Big CCD, great quality pictures, lots of features. Cons: Big frame, sometimes really slow between pictures.
In early 1999, we got a Kodak DC260 at work to replace our
old DC50. It worked so well that I decided to get a DC290
for myself when I saw a good price on one in April of 2000.
Since that time, I've taken about 3000 pictures with my

Pros: easy to use, wonderful quality pictures Cons: hard on the batteries, have to recharge often or have a 2nd set on hand
We wanted a digital camera that had good resolution, was easy to use and the Kodak DC290 is it. Yes, it's rather expensive at $999 but well worth it. We bought it at Best Buy so the rebates make the cost a little easier to take. Yes, it eats batteries...
Pros: Great picture quality and depth, produces great printed copies Cons: Uses up batteries, disconnecting from computer produces errors.
This camera was purchased for my use by the company where I work. We were replacing the DC50 I had for almost three years. I work in Marketing and a camera goes with me wherever I go, so I need something reliable. I was also looking for something I...
Pros: incredible image quality, big (32mb!) compactflash card Cons: odd, boxy shape that isn't all that ergonomic. takes awhile for pictures to load into the camera's memory after taking them. cruddy battery life. get NIMH rechargeables with a fast recharger (nimhbattery.com) and always carry a spare set if you buy this c
The dc290 camera is certainly a power punch- it has a multitude of features and can perform in the image quality area like the best of them. However, do its problems conceal the superior image quality and features of this camera?
Pros: 2.3 megapixels, 2240X1500(max resolution), 24 bit color, JPEG or TIFF formatting, audio capabilities, 20 MB memory card Cons: AC power and camera bag need to be purchased separately, too much camera for the casual user
I recently purchased the Kodak DC 290 Zoom for my company. We are a commercial real estate firm and we are constantly putting out flyers and specifications sheets with pictures of buildings. Until we purchased this camera we had to hassle other brokers...
Pros: digita scripting, very easy to use interface Cons: slow photo processing
I love my DC290. I spent about 2 months looking over digital cameras. After reviewing the Canon S20, Fuji FinePix 4700, and a few others, I chose the DC290 due to its easy to use interface. I am pretty much a novice when it comes to photography, but...
Pros: Great resolution, fairly easy to use, high picture capacity Cons: Poorly written drivers, slow user interface
Before we bought the DC-290 we evaluated the Nikon Coolpix 950, and the Fuji MX-2900. Honestly the only reason that I purchased the Kodak is because my vendor could not get the Fuji. Overall I really like the design of the camera, it is MUCH easier to...
Pros: Great pictures, easy to use, scriptable Cons: Auto focus is somewhat slow, occasional long delays when pictures transferred to memory card
Executive Summary:
The DC-290 is the current top of the line consumer/small business digital camera from Kodak. It has a 3x optical zoom and a nice color LCD for real time display. It provides excellent photos with minimal effort. Because it's...
Pros: - 2-megapixels resolution - compression-free imaging - PC or Mac connection via USB port Cons: - none
This is basically the DC5000 product without the toughened casing, and it offers plenty of features for its price. Packing in 2.1 megapixels, the DC290 Zoom includes 3x-optical and 2x-digital zoom with 1792x1200-pixel resolution. The ability to capture...
Pros: Great feautures. Cons: Hard to take pic without touching glass.
The DC290 was purchased for $100.00 from my dad's co-worker.

The Lens has Auto focus 3X true optical glass zoom.

This camera was my first foray into the filmless world of the digicam. I cannot express how happy it makes me to not pay for development. This camera was an ideal replacement for the standard 35mm because it prints photo-quality images, quite...
Pros: Out of the box digital camera Cons: Lack of accessories with the original package
When I saw MI-2 this weekend, my kids thought I bought the Kodak DC-290 because the movie showed the camera. I have had my site on this camera for months. It finally dropped in price so I got it. The price ranged from $600 to $800 right now.
Pros: Good picture quality, CompactFlash compatible, decent zoom, many advanced features. Cons: Slow "boot-up", too much time between pressing shutter button and picture being taken.
My wife and I had a Kodak DC215 and decided to find a better camera to capture our 10-month-old daughter's younger years.
We looked at many vendors including but not limited to HP, Olympus, Sony, and Kodak, but found for the price the Kodak...
Pros: Excellent picture quality, impressive features. Cons: Horrible battery life, delays and below average shutter lag.
If you are taking pictures of objects that don't move, this is a great camera. I was literally overwhelmed with the quality of the pictures. I also really liked the red-eye flash. However, there are several drawbacks to this camera. To be honest,...
Pros: Excellent color/print quality; choice of manual controls; easy buttons and menus w/out petroglyphs Cons: Takes too long to take another picture; blurry pictures in low-light w/out flash
I've had this camera for a few years. I bought it when the newer Kodak models had already come out because I liked the bigger design that is easy to hold and the manual controls which some of the newer point and shoot cameras didn't offer for a ...
Pros: Great quality pictures Cons: Optional camera bag could be more protective
I've had the product now for a year and love it. I have used it on a couple of vacations and now take it instead of my old trusty Olympus 35mm. I currently have 3 - 64mb flash cards and just ordered a 96mb card. With this camera and the great quality of...
Pros: Convenience, no film to develop, ease of use Cons: Price and weight
I have had my camera for about 2 months now and have taken hundreds of pictures. I bought this camera to take on vacation to Walt Disney World. I did not want to carry around several rolls of film that I would have found myself doing with my standard...
Pros: Excellent quality pictures,NiMh battery operation,USB interface. This is a must camera for vacations as you can take hundreds of pictures on a 64M CF card.Couldn't imagine doing this on a Sony which uses floppy disks. Cons: Lack of shoulder strap, automatic retraction of lens after 8 minutes of inactivity, slow response for moderate action sequences such as weddings, etc.
I purchased this camera for it's high resolution and the ability to produce 8X10 color prints on my HP P1000 printer. I am very impressed with the images this camera can produce. It is a bit slow and the lens automatically retracts after around 8 minutes...
Pros: Ease of use and quality of pictures Cons: Did not come with an ac adapter
I bought this camera to share new house photos with my son who is in college. We are relocating to a different part of the country and wanted to keep him in the loop as we looked at houses.
After scouring as many digital camera reviews as I could, I...
Overview
I have had this camera for almost 1 year, and it keeps me amazed! I don't have the exact specs off the top of my head, but it is typical for a 2.1 MegaPixel camera (about 1200x1000). With a general-purpose CPU and a customized...
Pros: Great pictures, easy to use and adjust Cons: Viewfinder visibility in bright sunlight
I was in the market for a high quality 2.1 megapixel digital camera and considered the Kodak DC290, the Nikon Coolpix 950 and, and the Olympus C-2020, which all have similar resolutions. The goal was a camera to replace my point and shoot, so I could...
Pros: Easy to use, Video and sound function, and Good picture quality Cons: Battery life
I read many professional reviews about this camera prior to my purchase. The deciding factor was its ease of use and its cost. It is also a Kodak which means quality. Now I use it for everyday pictures to download on my personal webpage and for selling...
Pros: top of the line, great quality, lot's of new functions Cons: expensive, dark LCD, low-light capability, very advanced (not great for beginners)
The Kodak DC290 Zoom Digital Camera takes brilliant, dazzling pictures thanks to its 2.1 megapixel high/3.3 megapixel Ultra resolution. But what makes it the ultimate in digital flexibility and control is its ability to "learn" scripts and...
Pros: supports scripts, picture quality Cons: battery life
Sure, this camera's Zoom creates great-looking images. Sure, it has a nice design that makes it comfortable to use. But what makes it truly stand out is its support for scripts. In general computing terms, a script is a list of ordered functions. When...
This is a GREAT camera if you are looking for photo quality. The resolution is excellent however, the battery life is severely inadequate.
I was so excited when I bought this camera and when I got home I attempted to go through the tutorial...
I recently purchased a Kodak DC290 and I would highly recommend. Out of the box, it worked without needing any instructions. In fact, Kodak was very intelligent when they not only included the rechargeable batteries and charger, but they also included...
I bought the product because at the time it offered the most features for the money. Also, I trusted the Kodak name. I played with a DC 265 for a little bit and liked the feel and the quality. Coming from a 35mm camera, many of the features...
Pros: Excellent Pictures, Easy to Use Cons: Supplied memory not enough
After careful review of digital cameras from several vendors I chose the Kodak DC-290. For under a $1000, this is the most camera one can get for their money. It comes with a 20Mbyte Compact Flash memory card, fairly substantial amount but not quite...
Pros: Resolution, ease of use Cons: refurbished warranty, battery
I purchased the DC290 one month ago to meet my gadget quota for the quarter. The camera has performed flawlessly for a birthday, baby shower, weekend getaway, and new puppy dog. The choice of resolution as well as compression gives the user plenty of...
Pros: Great resolution, zoom feature, usb Cons: no case , i bought my own,
I bought this the DC290 back in November 1999 and I use it for business, and around the house. My wife restores antiques and its great for before and after shots. The nice thing about this camera is the unbelievable quality of the pictures, and I'm...
Pros: High-tech made easy! Cons: Shop around for a deal, it's probably slightly expensive! Worth the buy!
Kodak's DC290 Zoom Digital Camera is a people-friendly camera that makes programming simple. It enables the user to customize exposure and color balance, email pictures right from the camera, or drop the picture right onto a web page. The Kodak picture...
Admittedly I was a little hesitant about putting down almost a $1000 for this camera. With a week to return it I figured that was plenty of time to test this baby out. My opinion after a week - WOW!! Living in Florida I was able to test the DC290 is...
Pros: Great image quality, easy use with Windows Cons: Battery life
The DC290 is a fine digital camera, especially for the price. Image quality is very, very good and it is simple to attach to a Windows PC using USB cables. It works with Windows 98, ME, XP and 2000 (have tried all four.)
Pros: Fantastic Picture Quality; Durable well built camera. Cons: Irritating Lens Design that zooms out every time you power up the camera.
I have had this camera for two years and am very happy with it. Outdoor pictures are fantastic. Indoor/low light pictures are amazingly clear if you use the right exposure. Menu is very intuitive. If you use the LCD reasonably, you will have absolutely...
Pros: Beautiful HI RES pictures achieved! Fair pricing! Cons: Eats batteries like a HUMMER! Needs a neck strap! Fragile toggle back button
This is the camera i've been waiting for! MSRP was over $1000 upon it's debut but bought ours online years later new for $450! Our biggest complaint was the BATTERY life! Again this camera eats batteries by the yard! We added a 256MB Compact Flash so we...

I was recently in the market for a digital camera. When I actually started looking it became very confusing. I chose the Kodak DC290. For the money its a user friendly camera. It is also bundled with rechargeable batteries, alkaline batteries, and I...
Pros: Worked, for about one year Cons: Worked for only a year with battery power
I purchased a Kodak DC290 in early 2000 for personal use as an upgrade from a digital camera with fewer features and megapixels. I was pleased with the camera's operation until about 3 weeks after the warranty ran out. This was when the camera failed to ...
Pros: all plus pictures, ease. controls Cons: maybe software
Just upgraded to this camera after having the DC200 plus. This camera is heads above any camera in its price range. My work place has purchased three of these and two of my friends have also purchased this camera. Everone has nothing but good to say...
Pros: Picture quality, durability, design, ease of use. Cons: Slightly slower than norm recycle times between shots, can't use regular alkalines with LCD.
May not be the best choice for action shots due to the recycle time which is slower than some of it's competition. Regular alkaline batteries like Duracell's etc do not function properly in this camera so keep a few sets of NIMH's on you at all times...
Pros: Extremely sharp photos. Easy to use after you become familiar with it. Cons: A little slow on the auto focus.
For anybody looking into a hi-res digital camera this one has to be on your short list. It takes incredible pictures and is easy to use w/ just a little practice. I'm sorry but you will have to read the manual but it's worth the time. It stores...
My dad is a photographer and he's always trying out new cameras. So one day I got a chance to try it out. This camera picks up where the like-styled DC265 leaves off. This camera combines the image quality of a 2.1 megapixel CCD sensor (the best there...
It's decent, and extensible. by anubis333 ,Feb 24 '04
Pros: extensible in camera OS, great image quality when there is enough light Cons: battery life, sluggish, poor in low light/indoor, too dependent on flash, no ac adapter
I got this camera shortly after it came out. It has a serious issue with battery life, and its CCD is horrible in low light situations. It needs a flash for almost everything. It also takes pictures very slowly, this is no point and shot, more like a point and wait.
Some pluses are its great image quality, and highly extensible camera operating system. i have written scripts for the camera to allow me to take pics with exposure bracketing and multiple F stops to create High Dynamic Range images.
The camera transfers files somewhat fast via USB, but it takes a while for the computer to acess the camera. Windows XP sees it and loads it, you do not need to install any Kodak software (plug n play). The images are created with full camera metadata. The only downside is that they dont give you an AC adapter, so you have to basically use your batteries to fery over all your images. I do not believe this takes very much life, but it is still a pain.
When you store your camera, remove the batteries. I have stored it and came back to it just being emptied.
Generally solid performer - good pictures by tomewilson ,Dec 24 '03
Pros: Solid, good performer, feels "expensive" and easy to hold Cons: Heavier and not a good value relative to today's (2004) models
I bought this camera in 2000 and paid $694. I'm sure Kodak doesn't manufacture it anymore.
It has been a solid performer and I've taken thousands of pictures with it. During the first year, I had a problem with it and send it in for free warranty service. It has a good feel in your hands and it contoured nicely to fit your grip. The materials it is made of make it feel professional. The batteries have a reasonable life and getting the batteries and flash memory in/out is a snap.
The camera can record sound, but I've never used that feature.
I just developed a problematic blue cast throughout all the pictures. I can't explain why, but have contacted Kodak's web site for help and advice.
I like the camera a... by wayne_dt3000 ,Apr 10 '02
I like the camera a lot. I used it in Greece for three weeks and shot over 300 photos. I had only one problem. I had to change batteries frequently and at some point the battery cover came off and was lost. I think the plastic pins may not be strong enough to withstand continual use.
Great camera that's easy to... by edward_dt3000 ,Apr 30 '02
Great camera that's easy to use. High res pictures are studio quality with rich, vivid color. Can quickly change settings with user friendly menus. Rapid sequence shots by holding "shutter" button down. Holding button half way down activates auto-focus and avoids delay for perfect shots. Durable - have dropped twice, still works great! Tough on batteries with high use of LCD.
I have taken over 1400 photos and have had a overall good exper. with the camera but have had issues with the battery life and speed between pressing the shutter button and the actual taking of the picture. Camera is a little heavy and large for travel but I did take it on a 5 day backpacking trip with extra battery's and compact flash storage cards. I will be purchasing another Kodak product now that my 7 month old puppy ate the DC290.
