Rebel G is the Best All Purpose SLR

by bendor , Jan 15 '00
Pros: simplicity, range of features
Cons: moisture sensitive
As a freelance photographer for 11 years, there's been nothing but great things to say about the Canon EOS Rebel. I have had my Rebel II for about a year and before I owned an older Canon EF which was a sturdy all-manual camera. It was becoming outdated...

Oh the things I can do with this...

by amidknight , Mar 23 '01
Pros: Up to 9 exposure settings, good all around
Cons: Flash not good for distance
I bought my Rebel G about two years ago. I also purchased a Promaster lens 35-105 zoom lens. The reasons I bought this camera as well as some of the downfalls I've found are listed below.

Rebel G is Excellent value for money!

by daletowert , Jan 07 '01
Pros: Light weight, easy to use, well made, good fully-auto mode
Cons: No depth of field preview, expensive batteries, manual could be better.
The Canon EOS Rebel G (known as the EOS 500N in Europe and South Africa) is my first SLR camera, but as I've now taken many, many photo's with it, I feel qualified to comment on it.

Many people rate a camera by the "quality" of the...

Works for me

by sasha5001 , Jul 23 '00
Pros: Easy to use, great pictures
Cons: need more zoom
I bought this camera for my college photography class. I had a very limited exposure to this type of camera, I had always previously owned point and shoot cameras.

The best feature of this camera is that there is the option for manual shutter...

My (Terrific) canon rebel G!

by RTHperfect , Jun 10 '01
Pros: fully automatic, many modes, built-in flash, lightweight, great zoom.
Cons: NONE!
Oh look, another (bleep) crappy picture came out from my (Bleep) ricoh manual camera. Those were close to my words when I got my pictures back. I was very annoyed with bad pictures and having to deal with a manual Slr camera, This is one manual thing I...

A Good 35mm, But... Not Great

by njoy4x4z , Apr 20 '00
Pros: Lightweight & inexpensive for what you get
Cons: Natural lighting is a challenge at low levels
I bought the camera on sale, just before a vacation to Mount Ranier. My 30 year old Canon TL/QL had a missing battery cover and was inop but, because it was absolutely the best camera I ever used (which is quite a few), I went for another Canon to...

A Good Camera Makes All The Difference

by mshands , Dec 29 '99
Pros: Easy to use and adaptable. Fully auto or fully manual.
Cons: Standard zoom lens is lower quality.
When my son was born this past September, I spent the next eight weeks trying to get a decent picture of him. I was continually frustrated because all my pictures had something wrong with them.

I began looking for a new camera in the hope of...

Great and simple

by bgunsberger , May 10 '00
Pros: Light, cheap, great features
Cons: Internal flash drains battery
I've had the please of using this camera for two years now. At the time I bought it, I did a lot of research into various bodies, which culminated with me purchasing the Canon. I wanted a cheap autofocus SLR to replace my older manual SLR (which sadly...

Beginning photography student? Look elsewhere.

by linga , Jun 11 '00
Pros: Cheap, Intuitive Interface
Cons: Limited Artistic Expression, Non-Standard Manual Controls, Lens Isn't Very Robust
I bought this camera kit because I needed an SLR for a black and white photography class that I took at a local art school. While shooting over 80 canisters of film with the product, I realized that using this camera put me at a serious disadvantage....

Great for the Amateurs

by Nb41 , Jul 26 '00
Pros: Weight, size, ease of use, price
Cons: Li batteries (bleh)
Short review: This is an excellent, easy to use, and extremely reliable camera for beginners and amateurs. It takes great photos, it's well designed. Drawbacks: few. It uses those stupid $6/piece Li batteries. Ugh. That's my only complaint after 2 years...

Beginners & Experts Unite at the Rebel G

by omar107 , Jan 24 '00
Pros: Easy to use, takes great shots in B&W or color
Cons: A little expensive ($350-$425)
Whether you love or hate photography, know or don't know how to focus, or even if you don't have a clue what an f/stop is, this camera is still the best for you. Even if you're an expert photographer who's used to taking action shots in the middle of a...

Rebel G--Great for Beginners Looking for a Good SLR

by trazomfreak , Jun 04 '05
Pros: Good for beginners, easy controls, nice pictures, decent lens.
Cons: Slowed focus in low light
I've had this camera, probably since it came out. And I love it. I was a little new to the world of photography then and it was worth it to learn and grow with this camera. This may be the camera for you if you are looking to go beyond the point ...

A Great Buy, and Wonderful Amateur SLR

by kelcilu , Oct 02 '04
Pros: Reasonable price, wide variety of modes, great SLR.
Cons: Minor focusing issues for complex shots, but nothing that would stop me from buying it.
Although I went with a Canon over a Nikon under the duress of a Canon-toting friend, I have to say I'm pleased with my purchase. I bought my Canon Rebel G in the summer of 2002, and have used it often in a handful of the modes. The LCD screen is ...

No way

by fastone , Sep 21 '00
Pros: none
Cons: to many
I've been shooting professionally for the past 20 years and decided to by a Canon rebel G for quick shots of the kids around the house. To say the least I was unhappy with the results. The standard lens is soft. I would hope that Canon would put a better...
