Pros: Excellent Design, Features, Metering, plus more. Cons: a couple of missed features, but nothing else
I suppose this review is now aimed at prospective used camera buyers, as the 600si was discontinued some time ago (early last year?). There may be a new one lying around somewhere in a small shop, but as it's a pretty recent camera it is easy (and...
I bought the Japanese version of the 600si, the alpha507si a couple years back, and have been thoroughly satisfied with it. I had (and still have) an X-700, and found the controls of the 600si to be so user friendly, I did not have to even look at the...
Pros: Easy to use, Light weight, Great Pictures Cons: A bit pricey
This camera is great for anyone looking for a camera that is forgiving. I owned a Canon AE-1 for years and when I went to replace it I wanted a camera that would allow me to let it do all the work or allow me the choice to take control. I had never...
Pros: A feature packed camera that can be fully operated with two fingers Cons: Few if any, focus tracking while in continious shooting mode is a bit slow
An incredible camera from the minds of Minolta. This camera has every feature that both the beginner and pro could need. The 14 segment light meter is the same one used in Minolta's highest end camera, the Maxxum 9, giving exact exposure readings for...
Lightweight, versatile yet rugged enough for most outdoor activities. This camera is easy to handle and well equipped.auto focus and auto wind are almost a nessecity in this day and time. This camera is good for action shots as well as plain good old'...
Pros: Good features; don't have to cycle through menus; substantial. Cons: Heavy;bulky;slow focusing mechanism.
I purchased this camera in early 1999 not knowing at the time it was being discontinued, so I ended up paying too much. It has fine features with buttons, switches and control knobs so you don't have to push a function button and cycle through a menu to obtain the feature you want. And you shouldn't want for anything unless you are a pro.
It is a substantial camera, one that will take a bit of knocking around and not be damaged. Except for an early problem with the battery circuit (it indicated a low battery even with a nearly new one in the camera) which was a warranty repair, it has been reliable. It is heavy and bulky by today's standards and the focusing mechanism is slow. Depending on the subject you have to switch to manual focus. My only caution is to check all the knobs and switches before you shoot, because it's too easy to forget what you set last time.
