Pros: Great exposure and autobracketing options Cons: Easy to get lost in the options
I bought the F100 for the features which were improved over my 8008S, especially the improved metering system. The F100 is only slightly heavier than the 8008S, but is considerably faster in both the auto-focus and frame advancement. In combination with...

Pros: Engineering, Focusing, metering Cons: None now
I purchased the Nikon F100 based on experiences with Nikon equipment at work, notably the F3 & F4. Money became available so it was time to buy.
The balance and feel of this camera was perfect for me from the first time I picked the F100...

Pros: Evolutionary camera in a long line of great Nikon bodies Cons: It still can't read my mind yet!
Well, what can say about the F100 that hasn't already been said in numerous other opinions? Having owned Nikon equipment since 1978, I guess my perspective is that of a professional who has upgraded his Nikon equipment over the years and seen the...

Pros: WELL BUILT, FAST FOCUSING Cons: SHOULD HAVE MIRROR LOCK UP
I have been a NIKON fan for over 30 years. Starting with the original f model [which i still own] right up to the f100. As age has reduced my focusing ability a bit the switch to auto focus became an interesting option.
I must admit i was a...

Pros: Everything. Cons: It's pricey.
I have owned cameras for more than 20 years, and never thought I'd buy a Nikon. But I recently had the opportunity to buy the F100, and it was love at first sight. Everything about this camera is easy to use. It feels right and shows me the information I...

Pros: small, light, rugged Cons: not the F5
If, like me, you can't afford the F5, this is your best bet. And, just to make you feel better, it's smaller and lighter than the F5. It does not have the trick view finder on top so you can shoot from the hip, but hey, we cant' have it all....

Pros: Nikon is the best; Superb Quality photos Cons: high pricetag
This camera is predominantly for the professional. The pricetag is high, but the camera is of superb quality. The up and rising novice may want to think about investing in this camera. It is well worth the money spent.
The Nikon F100 has autofocus...

Pros: Ruggedly Built Cons: On/Off/Light Switch
I've always been a fan of Nikon because of the ease and use of their equipment. I've had an N50 for 5 years now and I felt as if it were time to go play with the big boys. There is an advantage to starting at the entry level of Nikon. With the...

Pros: focus dial, fast focus, lightweight Cons: no complaints yet
i just recently purchased the F100 and i love it. it is very lightweight and easy to use. all the functions are similar to older versions of nikons with a few exceptions. those few are easily figured out in the manual that comes with it however. the...

Pros: Great body Cons: no manual shutter release
We (my wife Bettina and myself) love photography since over 25 years and we did all our work in a traditional darkroom. Then 1981 we lost interest in working in that dark room (you ever smelled the Cibachrome chemistry?). On the other side photography...

Pros: Fast accurate Auto Focus, Compact size, Professional Quality Cons: None at all
Pro and serious amateur photographers like to call the F100 the F5 lite or the Baby F5 but I think the F100 is a solid camera in its own right. The F100 was designed as a professional l camera with a truckload of features packed into...

Pros: Picture quality, longer battery life, and ratings by consumers, the one to buy for any occasion gift. Cons: There are cameras for under $25 having features for the novice photographer
Considering price, features,is within the budget for even lower income families. Excellent item for Christmas gift or occasional selection for under $50.00.

Ideal SLR ?
by frogphotog ,Jul 08 '05
Pros: Speed, Metal body, not too heavy, big bright viewscreen, gets admiring glances from other photogs Cons: hard to find any really
I think the F100 just might be Nikon's over-all best bet. While the F5 might have some advantages technically speaking, price and size are not it's best attributes. While there may be some features on the F100 that you might not need all that much, its not over-done. I have an N80, now re-assigned to back-up and B&W duties. Still an excellent camera but The F100 has the extra speed and durability I need. Key points for me are Speed, bright view screen, logical controls, weight ( I shoot without MB15 but may add one later), and ease of handling. For me, this is an ideal SLR.
