Pros: very good sound, perfect for the small budget, nice feature set Cons: who came up with this remote? Yeesh. Large and Heavy.
Back in November of ’99, I had about enough of my ancient pro-logic tuner. I just wasn’t getting the sound I desired, especially when watching DVD’s. Sound wasn’t filling my space, and surround effects seemed weak and distorted.
Pros: easy to set up, good sound Cons: none found yet
This is a great all in one unit. It keeps all of your stuff running off one power center. I like the front hookup for the camcorder. It really helps before I had to crawl behind our console tv to hook it up.
Pros: Lack of Heat, clear, and open soundstage. Sounds great on CDs! Cons: Terrible remote. Total lack of auto switching/sensing from component to component. Terrible Technical support. I will be returning this 498 after buying the Sony 635 or 835 for better ease and compatability.
This is my first Dolby Digital receiver. Bought it at Sears...at a great price...It was just returned by someone who wanted a Sony. My regular 2 channel music systems are quite high end and excellent. This unit is not for real high end home theater...
Pros: Great Price, Optical and Coaxial Inputs Cons: Lost the 5-D Theater and Virtual Dolby
The VSX-498 is one of the best Dolby Digital Receivers i have seen in a while. I was in the market for a new receiver and i saw the VSX-458 and i thought it was excellent with all the features and everything, but then i noticed the 498. It had much more...
Pros: Connectivity, Look & Feel Cons: Performance, Value
Ongoing advances in IC chip design have enabled audio manufacturers to offer full-fledged Dolby Digital receivers for less than $400. But can such a product be any good? What compromises were necessary to cut costs? And will you get a good return on your...
Pros: everything Cons: bass and treble controls are only +/- 6
I bought this receiver with Dolby Digital in mind. This model has excellent digital surround a continuous 80 Watts is enough to power most speakers, there is even a impedance selector to select the correct impedance for your speakers. You can even...
Pros: Great sound, low price Cons: Not a whole lot of bells and whistles
This is one of the lowest priced Dolby Digital receivers on the market. It has plenty of power for the average household and the sound is very clean. It's easy to integrate into your home theater set up and has both optical and coaxial inputs for Dolby...
Pros: 3 digital inputs(2 fiber optics/1coax Cons: lack of power
I bought the Pioneer VSX-D498 for a quick up grade to Dolby Digital. I must say the sound is quite clear. The only problem I had with this receiver is the power to my speakers. 80 watts x 5 is not enough. Since my front speakers are 300 watts and center...
