by musinteg , May 06 '03
Pros: Sound quality, soundfield processing, excellent power, connectability.
Cons: You must read the manual to get everything possible out of this receiver!!!
Picked this one up on e-Bay cheap. 3 blown channels. Repair was of moderate difficulty. I don't know how anyone could wreck this amp. I ran this thing all 5 channels loaded, at 1/2 rail voltage (1/2 the power goes to the load, other half gets lost across...

Great for HT, just OK for music

by nquinn , Mar 16 '01
Pros: Great quality for home theatre, seems durable, keeps cool
Cons: Not appropriate for music/2-channel mode. Remote is ridiculous.
The Yamaha RX-V995 is wonderful for home theatre, but
not so impressive for 2-channel stereo music.

Overall, this unit provides plenty of features and
quality for the money. Just recently, the price has
come down quite a bit....

Good sound with plenty of connections!

by DennisM Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Dec 22 '00
Pros: Ample power, many connections, undistorted sound
Cons: remote is overkill and difficult to use
As most people are aware, the receiver is the nerve center of a home theater system. The only other part of the equation that is as important, are the speakers. Now some people prefer separate pieces such as an amp, pre-amp, tuner etc. I find that unless...

Fantastic Receiver

by bnlitin , Jul 07 '00
Pros: Sound, DSP, Low Impedance Drive

Pros: Powerful, clear sound, connections for everything!
Cons: Remote is complicated
When I made a decision to upgrade my Home Theater to Dolby Digital and DTS I went and shopped for a real bargain - got an Onkyo TX-DS676 at a good price. Turned out to be a mistake cause it had hiss in all the channels (well known fault in the grounding...
