Spectacular Bookshelf Performance!!

by sam-pro Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Dec 07 '02
Pros: Spectacular bookshelf performance with surprisingly better bass performance than Bose's floorstanding models.
Cons: Speakers do require a bit of space but this is a small concession.
Other than the legendary Bose 901 speaker system, not too many other highly rated manufacturers' models are still standing after 27 years! The former's lower priced model 301 is one of the exceptions. Now currently introduced is the SERIES V which has ...

Nice all round speaker

by RBE , Jun 01 '00
Pros: Spacious sound
Cons: Placement
Solid performer

I have been listening to many speakers and sound systems in my life. Many people hate Bose for being very pushy in their advertising and marketing techniques. I really do not care much about this, and I think that many...

Pleasant but way over priced

by bobfromla , Sep 16 '04
Pros: Pleasant if unrealistic sound. Make for acceptable background listening speakers. Bass can shake the room.
Cons: Overpriced, distorted tonality, loose wumpy bass, no imaging/soundstage, fit and finish is only OK
Summary: A pleasant sounding speaker for back ground listening but over priced and out classed by the competition. Tonality is distorted to produce pleasant sound rather than accurate sound. Bass is loose and wumpy sounding. The 301’s can shake ...

i love these speakers.. i will never sell them or trade them.

by captain_stube , Jul 19 '01
Pros: - deceiving size - surprises friends (and enemies :)) - lifelike realistic FULL sound
Cons: - deceiving size:) - Lacks rubber legs on the bottom so scratching is easy.
My dad and i started researching speakers and he ended up buying Bode 301's in Nashua NH. at the time they were roughly $370US, and that was in no-tax-land NH. We brought them home (Halifax, NS) and hooked them up and they were incredible sounding...

by ash_ , Jan 20 '00
Pros: Exceptional clarity & range.
Cons: None that I can hear.
I too have the Bose 301 Series IV speakers, and I love them! I looked at, and listened to, a lot of other speakers, and finally decided on these. Why?

These speakers have an exceptional clarity & range that other much higher priced...

Perfect for the college audiophile

by aconover , Nov 09 '00
Pros: Great sound, small footprint.
Cons: Foam padding on woofer
The Bose 301 speakers are probably the best buy possible for someone with limited space and money, but who desires high-quality sound. Though Bose makes cheaper bookshelf speakers, the (the 201 and 141) in my opinion the lower quality of sound is not...

Great Sound for the Price!

by swb Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Apr 27 '00
Pros: great sound, reasonable cost
Cons: sensative to placement
For bookshelf speakers in the $300 price range, the Bose 301 Series IV speakers are a solid choice for a balanced overall sound. As a music teacher, I would like to think that my ear if fairly good, and I listen to quite a bit of music including...

by swb Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jan 19 '00
Pros: quality of sound for the price
Cons: proper placement is important to sound quality
For bookshelf speakers in the $300 price range, the Bose 301 Series IV speakers are a solid choice for a balanced overall sound. As a music teacher, I would like to think that my ear if fairly good, and I listen to quite a bit of music including...

Bose 301--Best Bookshelf Speakers

by crownvic281 , Jul 03 '00
Pros: Great sound
Cons: None!
I received the Bose 301 Series IV for my birthday two years ago, and they are the best bookshelf speakers I have ever heard. They are connected to my Heathkit AR-15 receiver and the setup delivers beautiful sound with excellent bass, mid tones, and...

by swb Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 03 '00
Pros: great price
Cons: not as stylish as others
If you are looking for speakers under $200, check out the Bose 301 Series III speakers that may be available at your local Sam's Club. I was shopping yesterday and spotted these speakers on sale for $189 - such a deal. These speakers are very similar to...

The Best Speaker Under $300

by princethunder , Feb 09 '01
Pros: Sound, Style, Great Bass, "Reflected Sound"
Cons: None
"Wow. What an amazing speaker."

That was the first thing I said after I set up my Bose 301 speakers in my house. The only trouble I really had was following the instructions on placement, which is really a null point. After I found the way...

BOSE knows.........

by jibberish18 , Jan 07 '03
Pros: Versatile. Can be placed in many positions and angles. Tweeter is natural.
Cons: The tweeter could be a BIT brighter. Other than that, nothing.
Purchased: At Best Buy for $80 for the pair. I saw these speakers sitting in a basket with many other speakers and asked a salesman what they were doing with the speakers. He said they were being sold for closeout prices. I couldn't resist at $40 a...

Natural sound.

by mrdata2 , Mar 31 '03
Pros: Clear natural sound that can be startling.
Cons: Bass weak for heavy bass tunes.
Picking speakers is really a matter of listening to them for yourself. Each person has a different "ear" for sound, as well as preferences for different music.

That said, I am a musician and I know what an orchestra, dance band, or ensemble...

Very Happy Listener

by broy , Jun 30 '02
Pros: Smooth Sound w/o peaks and artifacts, extended bass that is not boomy.
Cons: Placement is important
The only reason i bought these speakers were because I managed to get them at a significant discount and was not sure of how much i liked them initially. But once I had the speakers off the floor and placed properly, I realized that these are gems. I own...

Good speakers, even without reflecting

by snakeobson , Apr 23 '01
Pros: Small, Powerful, Durable
Cons: Reflecting system
On a trip across America I came across a BOSE factory store where they were selling speakers cheap as "seconds". Since I had been using my parent's speakers from the 1970's on my expensive Yamaha components, I invested a couple hundred dollars in these...
