Pros: tight bass, good definition, reasonable imaging Cons: a bit bright, lack of warmth
Several months ago, I wrote a luke-warm review of the Boston Acoustics VR975, a large, attractive tower speaker from Boston Acoustics that retails for about $1500/pair. It was a difficult review to write, since I have always respected Boston Acoustics,...
I went to the store, and was also looking for speakers for my cousin's new home theater and entertainment center. We already bought a Sony Stereo, DVD, and a HUGE MK (nearly impossible to find) sub woofer that costed over $900. All that was left was the...
Pros: Tight, accurate sound delivery, good bass, good imaging. Cons: wish they were just a little more spatial.
When I was in college in the mid 90's I was employed selling mid to high end stereo gear at a major electronics chain in the Denver area. Although we carried some "entry level" equipment, the bulk of our sales consisted of what most folks would consider...
Pros: Wonderful highs and accurate mids, interior decor-friendly, svelte design Cons: Long burn-in (about 30-40 hours) not bi-wareable. Need subwoofer for serious HT duty.
Nearing an 8 month search for a pair of main speakers, I was close to finally making a decision. Having a budget of $500-$600 had hampered me since the quality and sound reproduction I required were coming from speakers twice my budget. I had used a...
I went to the store, and was also looking for speakers for my home theater and entertainment center. I already own a Boston Acoustics stereo with my computer, I couldn't be happier with it. My speakers were great, and never have I heard a bad thing about...
Pros: BRILLIANT DEAL, BASS WITHOUT BOOM, TIGHT TINGLING TREBLE, MELLOW MID RANGE Cons: You don't want to get out of the chair!
I trialled these speakers along with ten other pairs of similar or more expensive price. In the store they sounded GOOD..........VERY GOOD but it wasn't until I unpacked them in the comfort of my music room, hooked them up and relaxed into my recliner...
Pros: Very clear sound Cons: Large size means difficult placement
If you are looking for the speakers that will transform your crummy, run-down home entertainment system, look no further!! These Boston Acoustic speakers really turned my living room into a full movie theater!! I have found that turning them slightly...
Pros: great sound, quality, durability Cons: none!
My friend and I run a Dj business. We made over 500 dollars last summer just using our regular stereos and equipment, we had decided it was time for and upgrade. We were looking in the store for speakers and saw these gems. They have awesome sound,...

VR-950: Cool and Unengaging - Disappointing by jfb2006 ,Nov 07 '06
Pros: Attractive and with a relatively small footprint. The piano gloss cap is nice. Cons: Sound stage is shallow and un-engaging. Bass is precise but limited. Highs lack detail.
I love the new Boston Acoustics VR1s and VR3s, which I listened to at Best Buy recently, and I bought my VR-950s on Ebay hoping there would be a family resemblance. The VR1s in the showroom were extraordinarily detailed and presented a bright and ambient sound stage, comparing favorably with the much more expensive Viennas showcased at the end of the listening room.
These VR-950s do NOT live up to that standard, however; I find them cold and lacking in depth. I was happier with my old Acoustic Research 428PS towers, which are deeply flawed but nevertheless produce an engaging, even exciting sound stage with greater detail. These Boston VR-950s do nothing of the kind. They are flat little asexual creatures that don't want to date. The bass is precise but limited - not blooming in any way (my Boston sub helps, but only so much), and the highs lack detail and are a little fatiguing.
Though I paid relatively little for these speakers on Ebay, I know my money could been better spent. I'm currently using them as stands for my Mission 761is, which I picked up for one third the price.
Pros: Great Bass, tweeter Cons: Sock Grille, sound is more important then looks however
I have had these speakers for months now. I absolutly love them. The bass is exellent compared to its competitors, the tweeter is precise, and the over all look of it is amazing. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THESE SPEAKERS TO ANY TRUE AUDIOFILE!
VR950 Unprecedented Sound Quality and Musical Reproduction by solobaric98 ,Oct 06 '03
Pros: Wide spectrum of sound is superb for a genres of music Cons: Absolutely None
The review by the so-called expert makes me think about who is really an expert. I think that by majority rule, your opinion is less than professional, and if you had any sense of quality sound reproduction for under $700 then your review would be reversed. I have had numerous home theater setups, and these speakers are some of the best that I have ever heard. I can listen to any genre of music and these puppies never disapoint me. The low end is very tight and accurate, whereas the mid and upper ranges are very musical, crisp, and clean. The treble is reproduced softly and never has a raspy tone to it. For the money these are the best, and I don't care what any so-called expert has to say. I am by no means an expert, but I can tell the difference between good sound reproduction and stellar reproduction. These Bostons are at the stellar level without a doubt
