I was fooled like most other consumers

by deejmic , Jan 24 '06
Pros: If it says Bose, the misinformed think you have great equipment.
Cons: If you dont research, you will be duped by this company.
Lets rewind back to 1997. I was 27 years old and making money for the first time in my life. I had always had an affinity for high end stereo equipment. Having grown up in a household where Klipsch, Cambridge Soundworks, Advent, Bic Venturi and Mid 70's ...

Dialogue is good... but it has problems...

by gg25 , Feb 12 '07
Pros: Great design, stylish, rich tone with a clear sound.
Cons: Lacks power for a center speaker, and range is poor.
The VCS-10, a stylish, compact loudspeaker designed to sit on top or below your TV to offer a rich vocal sound from the center. That's exactly the problem. It's a little too tuned to vocals, therefore it's range is highly limited. It has a crisp ...

Bose's Big Mistake

by soupcraze Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Mar 24 '01
Pros: Says 'BOSE' On It In Very Large Letters
Cons: Poor Ranges, Sounds Bad, Sounds Worse Than Most Other Center Channels
If you walk up to a normal person on the street and ask them what the best speaker company is, and they don't know much about this field; they will say Bose is the best. Bose is surrounded by hype. I tried out the 701 speakers, those were the only ones I...

Interesting center speaker

by tfung , Jan 28 '00
Pros: Wide room coverage
Cons: Sound not very distinct
Here's a real-life dilemma: Let's say you've got two pair of old speakers -- they might even be Bose -- and you want to fold them into a five-channel surround system. You need a fifth speaker for the center channel. Perhaps you should consider the Bose...

Not one of Mr Bose's best

by mutare23 , Sep 10 '02
Pros: Easy to use. Looks good. Light
Cons: Sound quality thins as volume/power increases
Like many other people, I believed the right thing to do when obtaining a center speaker to fit in with my Bose 901s was to obtain a Bose center speaker, admittedly I do have Wharfedales as surrounds.

I love the 901s which once setup right...

A huge mistake!

by alexkr , Sep 07 '04
Pros: Small footprint, looks slick
Cons: Inferior sound quality when playing music
I was in a process of replacing my hopelessly outdated home theater system (with some of the components as ancient as 12 years old). As I was trying to figure out what the individual pieces of this the new system should be, I decided to go with the JBL ...

The center of your world

by UtilityKitchen , Sep 28 '00
Pros: Small, great sound
Cons: Spring clip connections
Better sound through Marketing is what some people say about the products from Bose. Just be careful who you listen to about speakers. There are many people who slam Bose, it is not the sound, it is not the price, it is the fact that they Will not tell...

Marvelous

by joelchur , Jul 13 '00
Pros: sleek, great quality speaker
Cons: not loud enough for some people
When building a decent home theater, one should automatically think of Bose. I had 2 Bose front speakers and 2 rear surrounds, and I was considering getting a Cerwin-Vega center channel. The salesman told me that I should voice match my other...

Don't make my mistake...

by sepsis13 , Dec 13 '02
Pros: Looks nice, low profile.
Cons: VERY weak sound.
I have a set of Bose's Acoustimass Cube speakers (5.1) which I have been pretty happy with, they sound fine and I don't really have space for full-size speakers. Anyway, I just picked up the VCS-10 today because I wanted to upgrade to a 6.1 system. I...

Great Center Channel

by soccerkid85 , Dec 11 '07
Pros: Good for voice and dialog.
Cons: Not good if needing high bass output (not designed for either being a center channel)
I do not know where everyone else is getting their bad reviews for this product. I have had no problems with this speaker and have had great sound output from it. I don't know if these bad reviews are coming from a bad receiver or what, but I do not see ...

It works for me

by okalvin , Feb 21 '06
Pros: Natural and clear sound. Small size and sleek design.
Cons: Nothing so far
I love audio stuff but I am not an expert. Plus, I don't have a big budget. My system is mix-and-match. I never owned any Bose home audio product and I was skeptical that it was only a hype. When I was looking for center speaker, I did some research ...

Pros: stable, compact to fit in almost any space, very awesome sound.

by elgombi , Jan 13 '03
Pros: Sleek design, Superior Clarity

Solid performance with other Bose speakers

by ds1938 , Jul 23 '01
Pros: Clear, crisp, seamless sound
Cons: none so far

Looks great, Horrible sound quality.
by lke2drvgsr ,Apr 11 '05
Pros: Looks awesome.
Cons: Horrible sound quality.
The VCS10(B) looks awesome on top of the T.V. Very sleek and easy to fit anywhere. The sound quality is awful. I spent nearly an hour fiddling with the equalizer and calibration settings to find out it's not the calibration.. it's the fact that the design of this speaker is pure junk. Great for a VERY small room setup if using 5.1, but NOT recommended at all for an average and up size room (10'x10' and up) as the quality decreases greatly as volume increases. Has a hollow/echo-like, artificial sound to it, nowhere near the $200. Looking into the Polk CSi5 as a replacement..

Very Pleased so far
by tentiger ,Jan 18 '05
Pros: size, slim profile, 4 speaker 'aray' design.
Cons: wire clips instead of screw down posts.
I was shopping for a center channel speaker with the slim-est profile I could find because of my set up...needed something that would sit in front but not block the screen of my 27" LCD....this speaker worked perfectly and I got lucky on an 'open box' special at Circuit City...$169 which is great since Bose is never discounted. It matched up nicely with my 301's for left and right fronts and front and rear surrounds from Proficient that are wired into the ceiling of our new home. WOW! Not using a sub because the area is not that big. The 301's provide adequate bass...the VCS-10 is super clear and makes a tremendous difference in anchoring the voices to the screen. I am using a new Onkyo 602 surround receiver (85watts per channel x 7.1). Just could not be happier!

what are all you other people thinking?
by jsimon79 ,Jun 13 '06
Pros: sleek, loud, crisp, clear, great range. Matches perfect with my tv.
Cons: all you people talking bad about it when you probably dont even own one.
This is the best center channel speaker for the price on the market. It is clear and loud and it also has some good bass unlike all the other centers that sound flat. It is an excellent speaker. I have it hooked up to an old jvc receiver and it still sounds great. The louder i turn the better it sounds. THank you bose for another great speaker.

Over priced Under Performer
by riggscm ,Sep 06 '05
Pros: size.
Cons: poor performance. Don't waste your time
I have all Bose speakers, and I love them. great range & rich sound.

This thing that they try to call a center channel speaker succeeds in taking up space where a good center speaker should go.

Very poor range. Everything came out muffled and distant. I can not think of a worse performing speaker.

Great little speaker
by guinness1 ,Nov 23 '03
Pros: Size! sounds good too!
Cons: "Bose" name plate. I don't need to see it.
Hello folks. For those of you who are interested in a good sounding Center Channel speaker, try the Bose. Now, I must warn you, "speakers" are purely subjective.... and may sound different in your home... But in mine, this Center Channel has been sounding good to me for the last 3 years.

I'm not a Bose fan by default. I think they make good equipment for folks just getting started in Home Theatre. I chose this speaker ONLY because of it's size.... and well "Bose" isn't know for making junk.. that helped too. You see, way back when, I decided we needed a center channel, yet we were limited by size. Turned out Bose had just what I was looking for.

I'm not sure what Center channels are supposed to sound like, but this one works just fine for me. But then again, I have good equipement surrounding it, so that helps too.

My recommendation: Try it. See how it sounds to you. After you have compared it to others, and you like it, buy it. Again, speakers are subjective (for the most part)

Poor performance, not worth the money
by davidave ,Apr 13 '04
Pros: height
Cons: sound is hollow, low range, price, sound, did I mention sound?
I recently purchased the VCS10 because of it's size, I didn't have much space on the top shelf of my entertainment center. I had a cheap $99 Yamaha center channel and replaced it with the Bose. I watched Matrix Reloaded, what a huge difference. The Bose sounded flat, the deep voices (especially Morpheus) didn't resonate, sounded hollow. In the middle of a scene, I installed my old Yamaha center channel and it sounded incredible compared to the Bose. The center channel is crucial to good sound, almost all the dialogue will be through the center channel. I definately recommend not buying the Bose VCS10.

For those that are interested, I set up the VCS10 with Boston Acoustic VR950's, a JBL 200 watt sub and an Onkyo receiver.

Lot of sound for small Center Channel
by gabeandjodi ,Sep 17 '04
Pros: clear voices, lots of punch for such a small center channel
Cons: Not enough low end grunt, needs other larger speakers when listening to music
Needs a sub to hear all lows, but handles the rest of the sound very well, brings out mids and voices very well. Blends well with my Cerwinvega 15" sub.

Just as advertised
by mjl46 ,Dec 28 '03
Pros: Great sound with easy set-up.
Cons: None that I have found.
This center channel speaker has received mixed reviews. Some love it, some hate it. I think it's great. I suspect those who have had trouble either use it with incompatible components and/or don't know how to set it up correctly in their system. I first had the Bose Acoustimas 5 speakers on an old amp/receiver and the sound was no better than with the old speakers. Then I got a new technology surround sound amp/receiver from Pioneer and the Acoustimas (sub-woofer & cubes) sounded great. I next added Bose 161's for the surround speakers and finally the VCS-10 center channel speaker. The VCS-10 adds clarity and perfect synchronization of dialogue, "locking" the dialogue to the TV screen exactly as Bose says it will. Each set of speakers does it's job very well to deliver a great sound experience. But it could be tricky to configure with your particular amp/receiver. Mine has a lot of flexibility and after studying all the manuals and a little experimenting it works perfectly with the Bose speakers.

The best in the market
by azwowdude ,Sep 16 '04
Pros: The best sound, at any volume
Cons: nothing for here
I have owned the Bose VCS-10 center channel and with other bose speakers. I love these center channel speaker. It makes your home theater system complete. They say the center channel is the heart of your audio overall sound and it's TRUE. I can't even begin how to explain that such speakers this small can reproduce sound so HIGH. For at a price so affordable your not only paying for the name.your also paying for a better quality sound it's no gimmick here. They are better sound through research, every now and then I'll go out to eat in restuarants and I'll here music playing and I look up guess what I see Bose speakers "noneother" then the best sound ever made.

by zapper_dt3000 ,Nov 17 '02
Appearance cannot be beat. It looks like it came with the Sony projection TV. Added to my Bose Acoustimass AM15 speaker system it sounds better (more spatial with added bass response) at mid to higher volume than the cube did. Great system for apartments or smaller living areas where space is a premium. Not a recommended speaker system I would use for music or to "rock" the house with but great for surround sound.

by fushyuguru_dt3000 ,May 16 '02
Sound quality is unsurpassed. Fits perfectly attop any TV or audio cabinet. Voice coils reproduce chillingly accurate and realistic sounds when playing movies or watching TV. Resists distortion due to high bass and reflects sounds filling the room with bose quality. Great buy for the price, and still cuts through the power of my 701's for a crystal clear center channel.
