Pros: Excellent image quality, three separate trays Cons: No CD-R playback, noisy and slow disc-changing mechanism, remote control design
JVC XV-M555BK is a 3-disc DVD Player/Changer. It has more buttons and controls on the front panel than some other players do, and this is an advantage – you don’t have to use the remote control for everything if you don’t want to.
Pros: Great looking device, three DVD trays, great craftsmanship, high-quality, jog shuttle switch. Cons: One mechanism used to pick DVD from trays, remote control too difficult to master.

Pros: Multiple discs, user friendly, price Cons: Can be a little noisy when changing discs
We purchased the JVC XVM555 3-Disc DVD player 15 months ago. We decided we wanted to make the transition from video tape to DVD after seeing the amazing difference in clarity between the two mediums. Since the player would be in the living room,...
Pros: Cost, good picture/sound quality Cons: won't play CD-R's or CD-RW's
This will be a relatively short review, and I hope that because of that it doesn't get rated low, but I wanted to write this to basically pass on one main thing.
Last week I went looking for a DVD player, since I have limited shopping options...
The JVC brand name means quality from the start. This model provides the customer with features not found on other systems regardless of price. My JVC DVD is one year old this month and it has been a year of trouble free entertainment. When watching...
Pros: Great Picture, Sound, Operation Cons: Will not play home made CD's.
I purchased a JVC Amp (RX-778) and 5.1 surround sound speakers a couple of months ago to go with my 32 inch Proscan TV. The JVC amp is not top of the line by a long shot, but the price was good and it had built-in Dolby Digital. I have been very pleased...
Pros: Multi disc player Cons: Doesn't play CDw or CDrs
I bought this DVD because it was a three disc player and I also needed a new CD player. The quality of the picture is great. However, this DVD player doesn't play my CDRs or CDWs. I have also had a few problems with it not reading a DVD in one of the...
Pros: Excellent slow motion/pausing, optical sound, and s-video output for full digital quality. Cons: The JVC XV-M555BK does not play CD-R's,or DVD-R's.
I don't really want to ramble on and on about my opinions of the JVC XV-M555BK DVD-Player. I just simply want to state that overall the JVC XV-M555BK is a great DVD player for its time. However, Most DVD players today support more DVD discs Region Code...
Pros: Excellent picture, easy to use Cons: remote control, size
I got this DVD player from U-bid for a couple of reasons: to have an access to three discs at once, and to be able to record my Minidiscs with an added feature of an optical output. I am able to utilize both features to a full extent. The model is a bit...
The time has finally arrived and now you need to buy a DVD player!
Well then the JVC XV-M555BK delivers not just excellent sound quality, but also cost less then the SONY s-330. This JVC model is packed with awesome features and great reliability....
Pros: Great quality, excellent picture/sound.
Well organized remote. Cons: No CD/R capability, taller than compact models. Small delay in changing among the 3 discs.
JVC XVM555 3 Disc DVD/CD Changer is a great model for the price. Experience clear, very crisp distortion-free image, excellent sound quality delivered.
Logical, compact, and easy-to-use remote, but the unit is very easy to operate manually as well....
Good, but wearing out fast! by daszynski ,Sep 06 '03
Pros: Combines nicely with other JVC products, nice look. Cons: Needed to be cleaned often, not always a fix.
I've owned this player for over 2 years now. Although I like JVC products in general, this one has disappointed me a little. It is not playing the dvds very well any more. I have cleaned it many times with special CD Cleaner disks, yet it hasn't helped much. It will work better for a while, then falls back into problems. The specific problems that I have encountered are as follows: Can't read the DVD...just makes this whirring noise. I remove the DVD, replace it, and sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Another problem appears while watching the DVD. A slight flashing of "cloudy" white appears during viewing. Sometimes vertical streaks. It is like watching an old vhs tape! Cleaning lately has not helped. Very annoying while watching a great movie! Since cleaning is now not solving the problems anymore, I am going to look for new model. Will I choose JVC again? Yes. I still have confidence in their products. Maybe mine is just getting old....2+ years? What do you think?
Video stability never seemed to good. by mannyvel ,Jan 24 '05
Pros: Style, price Cons: Video stability
I bought this unit from Kmart about 2 years ago. Seems like the video picture would break up then and still does it now. We are looking to get a different unit like a Panasonic, Sony or Pioneer. I tried the same disk on different Sony DVD players and the Sony was ALWAYS better in regards to video stability/breakup. I did open up the unit and clean the video sensor to make sure it wasn't dirty or clouded. Cleaning did not make a difference.
The unit looks and performed ok physically and I didn't really have a problem with the remote.
