Pros: Truly Incredible Image Quality and Superb Sound Reproduction !!
Cons: None, It pulls you in by the eyeballs and throat and doesn't let you go until the action stops !!
Hot from the factory comes the Phillips DVD825AT, sporting enough sizzle and pazazz to thrill any home movie fanatic. After observing the quality of the player at Rex TVs and Appliances, a local audio video store about 30 mins away from where I live, I...

A very good decision! - Philips DVD 825AT

by maverick0516 , Apr 01 '00
Pros: Great all-around DVD player!
Cons: Where's my remote? (Oh! I'm sitting on it!) =Þ
This is my first DVD purchase and I'm just glad that I made a good decision! The Philips/Magnavox DVD825AT is cheap and offers the necessary features to enjoy a movie on DVD.

I was looking to get into the DVD game and was somewhat short on cash. I found the answer to my problem with this item.

DVD 825; The Greatest

by ZAL , Mar 21 '00
Pros: Video, sound, slow-motion, everything.
Cons: No zoom option.
I have been following the path of DVD players since they've first came out. The players have always been extremely expensive, up to $500, which is insane. I, not having the most money in the world, was very distraught by the excessive prices, and...

Pros: PRICE, PICTURE, SOUND, APPEARANCE
Cons: NONE

DVD - Take the plunge?

by gbaughma , Apr 20 '00
Pros: Fantastic sound, easy scene access, etc.
Cons: Have to watch the commercials, don't get a scratch or it skips BAD!
My wife and I had been kicking it back and forth for quite some time. "DVD's are a fad. They're evil. It'll never catch on. Same way that the 12" video disc player I have is now a large paperweight in my basement."

Well, then...

Pros: Great sound and and picture quality!
Cons: No S-video c able in box
I got this unit mostly because it claims to play CD-R VCDs. Within a week of getting it, I was ripping VHS tapes on my computer and writing VCDs, and it does indeed work. No more tape wear on the kids' favourites, and instant rewind, too!

Pros: picture and sound
Cons: doesn't come with s-video cable
The time has come to move to DVD. The jump from VHS to DVD is like the jump from biplanes to the space shuttle. You'll hear things in movies that you've never heard through your VHS player. You'll see a picture that is crisp and clean without the...

Pros: price, excellent playback, quality made
Cons: remote.
I purchased the Philips 825AT DVD player right after Christmas. I choose it over the other manufacturers because I have Magnovox products which have been great and I got a good deal. It was an open box purchase. After I brought it home I realized that...

Something to Think About

by MaximumC2 , May 03 '00
Pros: Great quality, Solid craftsmenship, Easy to use
Cons: Not as cool looking as the new Sony's
Philips Magnavox DVD players are of decent quality in the realm of digital movie watching. Broadcasting in 500 lines of resolution will turn your movies from lead to gold.

Unfortunately, in this new technological age of "digital"...

Pros: Good Picture and sound..Easy to use and set up..
Cons: After one year of use it only plays certain DvD movies..
After one year of use it only plays certain DVD movies. My advice is to spend a little more money or you will be stuck with a bad DVD player. I've bought over 50 movies and the only one that it plays now is Final Destination. The picture quality is good...

Not a bad deal

by blahblah3231 , Nov 04 '00
Pros: Good price and decent features
Cons: Not enough there for the power user
This DVD player seems pretty standard and doesn't require much to set it up other than plugging it in. The remote control is very simple without a lot of extra buttons to get in the way, however a power user may find this to be a negative feature. The...

by madeff , May 24 '01
Pros: Good video quality, TrueSurround SRS is the best virtual 3-D available
Cons: Lasted 1+1/2 years then failed to play 20% of titles (even if worked before.)
For a year and 1/2 I was very satisfied with the DVD825AT's quality. I'm am especially enamored with the TrueSurround by SRS. On a good quality 2 channel stereo I think it sounds even better than many true surround sound systems I've heard. Seriously....

Versatile and Dependable after 10 years!
by stump69 ,Jun 01 '08
Pros: Video and especially audio performance. Maxed-out connection versatility.
Cons: REMOTE TOO SMALL!!
This was the very first DVD player that I bought and while we now have 7 DVD-capable machines in the living room alone in 2008, this will always be my favorite for the performance, features and versatility of the connections. Boasting both optical and coaxial digital connections and two sets composite A/V outputs, it may be a rare breed. I believe this ALSO have been the first model with built-in SRS Tru-Surround and a dual laser system, one optimized for CD playback and the other for DVDs.

For audio, I have the coaxial digital output connected to the home theater and the digital coaxial (fiber optic) connected to my AR Dolby Digital wireless headphone system.

The first set of composite outputs go to the TV. I've opted to use the S-video and composite audio from the the second to my VRFx 3-D system.

I've been using this several days a week for over 10 years and it's never had a hiccup, which is why I've also gone with Philips for my (much newer) DVD recorders.
