Hot from the factory comes the Phillips DVD825AT, sporting enough sizzle and pazazz to thrill any home movie fanatic. After observing the quality of the player at Rex TVs and Appliances, a local audio video store about 30 mins away from where I live, I...
Pros: Great all-around DVD player! Cons: Where's my remote? (Oh! I'm sitting on it!) =Þ
This is my first DVD purchase and I'm just glad that I made a good decision! The Philips/Magnavox DVD825AT is cheap and offers the necessary features to enjoy a movie on DVD.
I did a lot of research before buying this one, sure I could've...
Pros: Video, sound, slow-motion, everything. Cons: No zoom option.
I have been following the path of DVD players since they've first came out. The players have always been extremely expensive, up to $500, which is insane. I, not having the most money in the world, was very distraught by the excessive prices, and...
My husband and I previously owned a 13" TV/VCR combo that had literally been around the block and was starting to eat all our VHS tapes. At about the same time (as Murphy's Law seems to dictate), our CD player hit the fan and we were out of luck as...
Pros: Fantastic sound, easy scene access, etc. Cons: Have to watch the commercials, don't get a scratch or it skips BAD!
My wife and I had been kicking it back and forth for quite some time. "DVD's are a fad. They're evil. It'll never catch on. Same way that the 12" video disc player I have is now a large paperweight in my basement."
Pros: Great sound and and picture quality! Cons: No S-video c able in box
I got this unit mostly because it claims to play CD-R VCDs. Within a week of getting it, I was ripping VHS tapes on my computer and writing VCDs, and it does indeed work. No more tape wear on the kids' favourites, and instant rewind, too!
I have...

I've never been a big Philips/Magnavox fan, but the 825AT DVD player has totally changed my mind. The picture is clear and crisp w/ the s-video and composite jacks, but it does lack component output...(what do you expect for $199). The onscreen menus...
I purchased this system three weeks ago at best buy on a sale. I must say I got quite a deal for such an awesome player. What I prefer most is actually the remote control for this machine here. The remote comes with only about 17 buttons but has...

Versatile and Dependable after 10 years! by stump69 ,Jun 01 '08
Pros: Video and especially audio performance. Maxed-out connection versatility. Cons: REMOTE TOO SMALL!!
This was the very first DVD player that I bought and while we now have 7 DVD-capable machines in the living room alone in 2008, this will always be my favorite for the performance, features and versatility of the connections. Boasting both optical and coaxial digital connections and two sets composite A/V outputs, it may be a rare breed. I believe this ALSO have been the first model with built-in SRS Tru-Surround and a dual laser system, one optimized for CD playback and the other for DVDs.
For audio, I have the coaxial digital output connected to the home theater and the digital coaxial (fiber optic) connected to my AR Dolby Digital wireless headphone system.
The first set of composite outputs go to the TV. I've opted to use the S-video and composite audio from the the second to my VRFx 3-D system.
I've been using this several days a week for over 10 years and it's never had a hiccup, which is why I've also gone with Philips for my (much newer) DVD recorders.
