Pros: Great Unit for the price, excellent quality Cons: Might be lacking features for some people.
The Pioneer DVD-525 was and still is a great DVD player. I bought it when the crowd of budget DVD players came flocking into Costco, these $250 units has basic features, however at the time of my purchase, DVD Players have just gotten mainstream and...
Pros: plays multiple DVD formats, economical price Cons: does not feature zoom, movie must be stopped to change settings
The Pioneer DV-525 was our second DVD purchase. Why you ask? Our first player froze up on us about 3 weeks after we purchased it. We later found out that it was because some players have problems recognizing different DVD formats. This would prove to...
I've been using the 525 for a few weeks now. I also own a Panasonic A120, which started crapping out on me(the dreaded laser-assembly problem). The biggest drawback to the 525 is that it's noisy. It's as loud as my 10 year old LD player. The remote has...
Pros: excellent everything Cons: needs big TV to appericate it
The Pioneer DV-525 is an excellen piece of hardware. It boasts numerous functions and gadgets. For instance, you can access the menu and the title page of a DVD at any time. This is excellent for when you want to jump to a spefic chapter or part in...
Pros: Plays DVD,CD,VCD,CDR and CDRW Cons: Most advanced features only accessible from the remote.
This DVD player has a load of features and is easy to set up and get running. I actually never bought one, I won it in a contest on the web in January of 2000. It's durable and to date I have had no problems with it. I have played over 200 DVD movies...
Pros: Great picture and sound. Superb value Cons: Not as many extra features as some competitors
If you are reading this, then you have probably heard (or maybe even experienced) the hype surrounding DVD players and their superior video and audio qualities. For the most part, DVD players do live up to the buzz, especially when you compare a typical...
Pros: Great picture and audio. Lots of features for the videophile. Cons: Mediocre remote, and very lightweight...I wonder how well it will hold up to heavy (or rough) use?
I had been intending to put off entering the DVD generation until prices dropped down below the $200 level. Then I won the Pioneer DV-525 in an online contest, and I must say I couldn't be happier with it.
Pros: Seems well built Cons: Remote buttons are small/hard to see/use
I was all set to go out and buy the Toshiba progressive scan DVD player when sanity reigned me back in. Fact of the matter is a better, more feature intensive machine will be out tomorrow. With DVD-Audio discs finally gaining momentum, it made sense to...
Pros: Great price! Great picture! Great reliability! Cons: Not many for this price range.
If you love movies, you must buy a DVD player! Although, deciding which player is right for you is enough to drive you insane. With enough manufacturers and models to make your head spin and prices ranging from $180 to over $1000, the task can be a tad...
This is my pride and joy. I won this on buybidwin.com around Christmas time. It was a great gift even though it did not come in until the middle of this month. It came with a FREE Pokemon movie.
Pioneer has long been the leading force behind laser discs and is now a strong contender in DVD players. The DV-525's picture quality is whistle clean and palpable, in part due to Pioneer's own Twin Wave Laser and Viter-Bi RF Decoding Process that reads...
Pros: Outputs, DVD movie quality Cons: Audio CD quality (for me anyway), flimsy tray and general build quality, price -- there seem to be cheaper models of equal quality
I purchased one of these last March for my in-laws and between us (them using it at home, I using it every time I hang out over there) it has been a fine machine, though I must admit, when I purchased my own DVD player this summer, I bought a Toshiba,...
Do you know how to program a VCR without going back to the manual? With more and more electronic goods cluttering the house, it is not as simple as it used to be to use advanced electronic gadgets that comes with more and more features. While a little...
Nowadays, there are a number of good, moderately priced DVD players on the market from basically every electronics manufacturer around. If you're just looking to be able to play DVDs, and aren't too concerned about video or sound quality, there are a...
Pros: Easy to use. Optical, coax, and RCA outputs allows hookups to all kinds of receivers Cons: Not a lot of bells and whistles, but enough to satisfy most people.
As many of you have probably read in my past reviews, I bought a Samsung DVD player back in December. OOOPS! Actually, BIG oops. When I learn NOT to buy anything Korean, I don't know. But at least my review was nice. Samsung should thank God I...
Pros: Great picture quality, improvements on previous model's features Cons: weak remote control design
I've been using the Pioneer DV-525 for the past few months, and its high quality performance has been quite a pleasant surprise. Replacing a somewhat beat up DV-414, the 525 meets or surpasses most of the quality features of the competition among entry...
Pros: Rock-solid video reproduction Audio performance free of digital edginess 480i component video outputs Both coaxial and optical audio jacks Bitstream data monitor capability Cons: none
Pioneer has long been the leading force behind laser discs and is now a strong contender in DVD players. The DV-525's picture quality is whistle clean and palpable, in part due to Pioneer's own Twin Wave Laser and Viter-Bi RF Decoding Process that reads...
Pros: Excellent audio, video, easy hookup Cons: More expensive than VHS
Buying a DVD player for the family was not as easy as I thought it would be. There is a lot more than just choosing between a 2-head and 4-head VCR, mostly having to do with the sound and video capabilities of the player.
I settled on the Pioneer...
I bought this product because of the price($230) and previous experience
with Pioneer Products. So far ( 2 weeks) it works well, but the directions for connecting to a digital receiver were a little confusing.
I would say this is a good...
Pros: name it, it'll play it. Any format disc Cons: unlike a Toshiba player, no zoom feature
Many people would say that the Panasonic lines of players are the best. Others argue that it is the Toshiba line. Both parties are correct in saying that the players are great. However, they have one disadvantage. They can't play all types of discs....
Many personal computers these days are shipping with CD-RW CD-ROM drives, which among other things allows for the copying of CDs (songs from a music CD for example). As it turns out, most DVD players don't read the CD-R format. Here's a list put...
Pros: easy to use, great price, saves time - no more rewinding Cons: none on this product
I was very hesitant to get a dvd player. I am still stuck in the stone age, and we have so many VHS tapes already for the kids that I didn't want to make the change. We received our Pioneer DVD as a Christmas gift, and I love it. The quality is 100...
Pros: sound and picture quality, low cost, durability Cons: only basic functions on the unit itself
Up until now Pioneer as been turning out some questionable electronics. Their components were good but there was always that little bit more that should have been done to make a component great. Well with the company's 50th anniversery came a logo change...
Pros: Excellent players; still great prices available... Cons: ...even without the $50 rebate.
Just so people know, the current promotion of a "$50 Rebate" from Pioneer on the DV-414 and DV-525 models does NOT apply to ANY purchases of these players over the Internet except from Circuit City or Crutchfield! I've noticed a few opinions...
Pros: Great Cost, Easy to use, Many great settings Cons: Since December, we still have not received the 5 movies we were suppose to get because of backorder.
My husband and I purchased this DVD Player around Christmas time, and boy was this a GREAT investment. This DVD player is AWESOME! Very easy to use and designed in a manner where it will match all other home entertainment system accessories that you may...
Pros: Very versatile, plays DVD's from around the world unlike most DVD players, elegant non-messy design and much more... Cons: Cannot operate DVD Menus without a remote control. DON'T LOOSE IT! Get a universal remote with DVD capability for backup purposes.
Yes, this is one of the handful amount of DVD players made for the US market that can play DVD's encoded into PAL system (625/50). PAL television system is used in most of the World, except a few countries like USA, Canada, Japan and Korea that use NTSC...
Pros: Great picture and sound; low price Cons: none
I waited over a year to take the plunge into the DVD market. I had investigated all the different players and was about to settle on the Toshiba when Pioneer came out with the 525. I had read numerous articles on the "lip-synch' problem that the...
ok, first and foremost... DO NOT LOSE THE REMOTE! I did lose and now I have to order it direct from the company. The remote has buttons to do things that can not be accessed any other way.
I do not think this an A rated DVD player. I mean,...
Pros: Excellent Value, Unsurpassed Audio/Video Cons: Little Noisy, Junky Controller
I bought the Pioneer DV-525 after reading some excellent reviews of it, and I must agree, it is an excellent unit. For the cost, it is a steal, as it has audio and video quality easily equal to that of the most expensive, top of the line models. There...
Pros: Good features for the price Cons: changing from cable to DVD requires multiple remotes
The Pioneer models have shown good features for their price range; this DVD player has been the only one I had found in this price range that will play CD-R's as well as DVDs and Video CDs. There has been no problems with DVDs playing on this unit; even...
Pros: sound, quality and price Cons: Noisy machine
I was going to purchase the Sony DV330 when I looked at the specs on the Pioneer. This had couple of features the first was dynamic range for sound. You could compress the sound so that you don't have to turn up the volume when someone is whispering and...
Pros: Excellent price and performance Cons: Stripped down version of the DV-414
The DV-525 replaced the DV-414 recently. While the DV-525 is still a great player, pick up a DV-414 instead if you can. First, the DV-414 has been discontinued, of course, so you should be able to find some deals on it. Second, it is actually the...
Pros: The most bang for your buck Cons: Freeze frame fast forward
I recently purchased the Pioneer DV-525 and I am very satisfied with the choice that I made. For the price I paid (under $275) it has everything that I need in a dvd player. I feel that if you are not planning to use all the technical features that the...
This offer has been going on for a while now, but I like to keep people up on current DVD rebates/offers, so I'll mention it here for those that don't know yet...
Most of the current DV-525 players come with the Pokemon Volume 1, "I...
Pros: Light weight, lots of features, can save settings and last viewed positions of up to 15 DVDs Cons: Large, bulky body for the weight, ugly chassis and remote.
This is my third DVD player. My first one was an RCA
and it lasted about 7 months and then started telling
me my own DVDs were incompatible...I called up the
Good Guys (that's where I bought it from) and they told
me since it was past...
Pros: Awesome sound and picture quality Cons: none
When Pioneer came out with the DV-414, it was great among affordable players, it even won reviews from home theatre magazines, and from consumer people looking for DVD for the buck. The new DV525 is an excellent replacement, it added a quick start drive,...
Pros: Can play through any disk,Excellent audio and video Cons: plain looking but so what.
WOW!! This is on amazing dvd player.First of all,I have Tried Units From Sony,Toshiba,Jvc,Aiwa, all went back to the store for one reason or another, some of them had the dreaded lip sync problem, others had distorted pixelization and unwanted video...
Pros: Great thing to buy if you like quality Cons: Could look better
After a month of thinking I bought Pioneer DV-525. Everybody was telling me :why do you have to spend extra money on something that you already have (VCR). Well, I tell you this: First of all - quality. Do you, people, go to the movies? I do, when I get...
Pros: Both coaxial and optical audio jacks Cons: No headphone jacks
Pioneer has long been the leading force behind laser discs and is now a strong contender in DVD players. The DV-525's picture quality is whistle clean and palpable, in part due to Pioneer's own Twin Wave Laser and Viter-Bi RF Decoding Process that reads...
I recently purchased the DVD player as an Open Box Buy at Best Buy for 200 bucks. It had more options than most players in this price range (sells for 250ish) and it has a great picture too. It has options for all sorts of surround sound and other things...
Pros: Video CDS, CD-RS, Video Component Output, Affordability! Cons: Lacks the extra (unneccesary features) that pricier models have
As far as affordable dvd players go, the Pioneer 525 is definitely the one to buy. I researched several dvd players this Christmas and compared the features of mainly the Sony 330, the Panasonic A120, and the Pioneer 525. The Pioneer is the only system...
Pros: great quality, great features, name brand Cons: None
I purchased the Pioneer Dv525 in early Jan of this year. My purchasing of this Product was greatly influenced by the name brand, the great options, and the fact that is was on sale greatly reduced. The Dvd player was very easy to hookup, and also easy...
I have spend a lot of time listening to and evaluating the latest DVDs on the market. After looking at around 10 Market Leaders from companies like Yamaha, Panasonic, Sony, and the like, I finally settled on this DVD player. I thought the sound and...
I bought this Pioneer for less then ~$250 over 4 months ago (w/o the current rebate program), and I got a lot of machine for my $. The Pioneer is one of the few "low-end" models that offers component video out. Currently, I am using AR...
Pros: Pioneer name, high quality sound and picture Cons: none that we know of
We bought the Pioneer DV-525 almost a year ago, right around May of last year. I had looked at several others before deciding on this one. There were several things I was considering when buying a DVD player.
Pros: Very good value for the money! Cons: Not a lot of features
This DVD player is excellent. We had looked at several others and decided that this was the best. It also isn't real expensive. We only paid 280$ for ours. We also got a certificate for five free DVD movies(by mail in with certificate, UPC and receipt)as...
Pros: Great value. Cons: Minor flaws mentioned in my review.
The Pioneer DV-525 has been of great value to me. I use it as both a DVD and CD player and it seems to cover both of these tasks quite adequately. The player has everything you could expect at its price including component video out and two digital...
Pros: Reliable. Brilliant sound and picture quality Cons: No bells and whistles. Might be hard to find available.
It took me a good amount of time before I buckled down and bought into the DVD craze. I bought this player as a fully-warranteed, open-box but never used item for $215. At that price, I figured that I could not go wrong.
Pros: It plays cd-r's, cd-rw's, video cd's, audio cd's and dvd's no other player does!!! Cons: no zoom feature
I recently purchased the pioneer 525-dvd and have been happy ever since.
I have already put hours and hours on this machine with out any flaws. The features alone are set this dvd away from all of the other dvd's on the market. What other dvd plays...
This DVD player has everything I was looking for: the right combination of performance, specs, and price. I had very good luck with Pioneer CD players, which I found superior even to my Sony ES series model, so I thought the 525 would be a good bet....
Pros: Plays ALL CD-R(W) movies in both VCD (MPEG-1) and SVCD (MPEG-2). Great picture and sound! Cons: Not progressive scan (but unless you have HDTV, you don't need it anyway!)
This review is mainly going to center around my hunt for a DVD player which can play movies I burn from my computer onto a CD-R or CD-RW (movies burned on CD-R(W) are called "VCD - Video CD" if they are normal quality or "SVCD - Super Video CD" if they...
Pros: Easy to use, lots of features Cons: not a changer = 1 DVD at a time
From the first day I hooked up my Pioneer DV-525, movies have come
alive in my house. You simply won't find a better-performing player
for price. The information page from DealTime could be in need of
updating because you will find...
Pros: Good quality picture, good price Cons: complicated remote control
This was my first experience of buying a DVD, and I did it with no product information such as what can be found on this site. As it turned out, I got lucky. This player has a very good picture quality with many options on the remote from view...
I bought this awhile ago and am stilled amazed that is has stood the test of time. This is very much a no-frills entry level DVD player, but what is does, it does well. It has all the standard features of most DVD players in it's class and it is still...
Pros: good price, lots of features Cons: still pricey compaired to VCRs
I picked up this DVD player about 4 months ago because my brother has a DVD in his laptop. I love the quality of the pictures and the fact that I am not going to have to go out and replace my movies anytime soon because the tape got eaten or stretched...
Pros: CD-RW/CD-R read ability, Dolby Digital and DTS output (optical), component video, VCD capability Cons: Bad remote design, lack of smoother fast fwd/rwd
This is my first DVD excursion, and I entered the purchase somewhat apprehensively due to my early adoptation of the DVD standard. I was afraid of the VHS/BETA problem. HOWEVER, this player has dispelled any concerns by simply being AMAZING! The player...
Pros: Great quality DVD Cons: There are cheaper models with equal quality.
......PLEASE EXCUSE THE PARAGRAPHS, I'M HAVING TROUBLE WHEN I SUBMIT THE REVIEW...... We made the decision a month or so ago to purchase a second DVD player for the other television set. Well we were perfectly happy with our $175 GE model in our...
We have had this player for over a year. I have mixed feelings about it. The first one shipped to us by Crutchfield was bad out of the box. It had parts loose inside. I don't know whose fault that was, but having it break before it was out of the box...
I purchased my Pioneer DVD player about 3 months ago and have been using it non-stop. I have never had any problems with it and the features are great. The sound quality is excellent and so is the video quality. It has all of the basic features for a...
Pros: Good Value and support Cons: Noisy disc loading and small remote
I did a lot of research prior to purchasing a DVD player. There have been
many problems up to this point with lip sync during playback. It seems
this model Pioneer has finally solved them.
Don't let the light weight of this player fool...
Pros: Price, picture clarity, ease of use Cons: remote must be pointed directly at unit, missing manual
The estimated price shows $425, but I got mine on sale for $180, so the price is definitely good for a new DVD player. Mine didn't have a manual in the box, but setup was easy enough and the remote is fairly easy to use. I have long been a fan of...
To be honest, when I bought the DV525, I needed a VCD player, not a DVD player, and that limited my choice to either the Panasonic A120 or the Pioneer DV525 (none of the other low-priced DVD players play VCD's), and I had picked the Pioneer due to the...
Pros: Low price for features; DTS Cons: Lack of Zoom feature
After researching DVD players, I came to the conclusion that this was the best player on the market for under $300. I purchased it online and was quite happy with the results. It has DTS technology with optical & coaxial outputs for use in a...
Pros: Audio/video performance, price Cons: FF/Rev scan, remote control
After doing extensive research both online and off, I decided on the Pioneer DV-525. The combination of price and performance puts it at the top of my list.
I have had the DV-525 for about six months now, and after playing hundreds of DVDs, I...
I got this DVD player for only $200 and think it is a tremendous deal. Very easy to use, great features, great quality. You can't go wrong. Picture quality rivals the Sony DVPS-7000 my dad has. Setup was a breeze, and the remote is configured...
I bought the Pioneer DVD 525 for under 300.00 and it has got the best sound and picture Quality I have ever encountered. I was expecting good but this terrific, I will never go back to VHS. This is definatley worth every penny I spent on it and more....
Pros: Picture and Sound Quality are Superb Cons: Can hear the disk over quiet moments in the movie
I acquired the Pioneer DV-525 about 4 weeks ago. The very first movie I put in Blew my mind. The water was so real i could have jumped into the screen. Now I have a 61' TV, so every imperfection is magnified. I watched several movies with it attached...
Pros: digital audio & component video outputs Cons: no zoom
I have owned the DV-525 for about 3 months and haven't had one problem. I rent DVD's from Netflix.com and watch nearly one movie every night. Every DVD I've inserted has played flawlessly, including VCD and CDR! This player includes component outputs so...
My husband and I bought the Pioneer DV-525 as a before Christmas present for ourselves. We have been wanting one ever since they came out. We hooked it up the same night we got it, and rented a movie to watch. The picture was incredible and with the...
I have purched a Poineer DV-525 DVD/CD player. I love the great sound. You simply won't find a better performing player for the price. I place the DVD in the tray and the quick start drive gets the movie on screen in a matter of seconds. I...
Pros: Easy to use, great clarity Cons: Needs and RF Modulator
Pioneer has done it again! A wonderful DVD player placed in a nice package with all the features most of us would want. I purchased this model DVD player for my parents for Christmas of 1999. This player will offer them everything they would want and...
Good:
Pioneer has done it!!! The most important aspect of any DVD player is whether or not it will play the disk flawlessly (picture looks great and the lips move at the same time as the audio exits the speakers). This player meets and exceeds...
Pros: Ease of use Cons: doesn't come with optical cables
I bought this DVD as a gift. I found it at Best Buy for $299, plus a $50 rebate. You also get 5 free movies and 16 free Blockbuster rentals with the purchase. It has optical output (which really makes a difference) and plenty of options.
Pros: Reliable player, lots of features, great price Cons: Fast-forward and rewind jumpy; noisy mechanism
If you don't have more than $500 to spend on a Sony with all the bells and whistles, this is the DVD to have. It's reliable, and doesn't suffer from the lip-syncing or freezing difficulties that plague many players, particularly on ultra-advanced titles...
Pros: Features for the price Cons: noise during menu and first 10 minutes of the movie.
I had an apex for a month, but the thing was so flaky I took it back, despite the Macrovision and region defeats.
The DV-525 is a very nice unit for the price ($212 at Sears, as Best Buy was out of inventory - as usual).
The video,...
Pros: The sound quality Cons: Does not have a backlit remote control
It is good to hear that people in the USA also know a good product when they see one! Here in Toledo I bought a Samsung DVD-Player and after about a year it let me down BIG time After months of browsing I stumbled apon the PIONEER DV525. I'm a Pioneer...
Pros: dolby digital surround sound, many options Cons: none so far
We finally decided on getting a DVD player. We were going to get an off brand so it would be cheaper but decided on Pioneer because we have a Pioneer receiver. We absolutly love it!!! It is very up to date and the fact that I know longer have to...
Boy When I bought this DVD player for my dad for his birthday, I did not know how nice it was.. (But it sure made me feel good). For the price the quality of the picture was great. I rented the wizard of oz. I could see every thing so clear I really...
Pros: plays CD-R, CD-RW, great picture Cons: a little noisy start-up.
I work for a retailer so I am able to test out all the different models listed above. And after putting them all thru the same tests I chose the Pioneer as my DVD player of choice for under $250. The Toshiba seems to be just as good but I like the fact...
Awesome DVD player!! Has absolutely no problem playing any DVD. IT IS A PIONEER, Looks very clean. It is DTS and Dolby Digital with Fiber Optic out.IF IT DOESN'T SAY DTS AND DOLBY DIGITAL, DON'T BUY IT. You will have to buy a new one then shortly, and...
Pros: Easy setup, great picture and sound, inexpensive Cons: Slightly noisy motor, but not a big issue
I bought this DVD player about two months ago and I have been thrilled with its performance. The picture is crystal clear and the sound is amazing. Setup was delightfully easy and the manual is simple to follow. The only slight irritation is that the...
Pros: great sound and great picture Cons: not long enough power cord its only 3 ft

Bought this player. Works good no problems.
It is one of the few players that will play DVD and VCDs in the price range.I've played VCDs and not had any probs.
For the price it's the best. Sony or Toshiba wont read CDR/CDRW.
Good pic...
We have owned this player for about 6 months now. This has to be one of the best deals offered in the DVD player arena.
We have not experienced any lip-sync problems or random chapter skipping.
Some may think that it is a loud player, but if...
Pros: Great Picture. Video CD playback Cons: So far, nothing.
1: Bought from Ubid.com at : $229.00 with One Pokemon DVD.
Also found a rebate form Pioneer for $50 and Free DVD/Free Rentals.
If you can find a DVD less than $200, it is a great buy, isn't it?
Using Pioneer's exclusive Twin Wave Laser pickup, the Pioneer DV525 DVD player reads DVD, VCD, CD, or CD-R discs. This player offers 10-bit video processing, a 96 kHz sampling frequency, and a 24-bit resolution audio converter with 96 kHz, 24-bit digital...
In a few words, this player gives value and performance. The curious thing was that even the high-end electronic salesman would have to admit that this little gem delivered a lot of bang for the buck. In fact, I was told by more than one high-end...
Pros: Easy to install, set up and operate Cons: Poor ergonomics on the remote
I waited for DVD prices to drop below "early adopter" levels, and for the 1st and 2nd gen machines to be debugged and improved too. Along came the Pioneer 525, which promised the right features at the right price.
Pros: Picture/Audio thru coax/opt is fine. Cons: Chapter search not rapid
My brother gave it to me recently. I have scene one or two newer players since he acquired it so I have an idea how on how to make a comparison of this model to others.
VIDEO:EXC(2001)VG(2006) There are two reasons why I rate the video as VG. The Pioneer Elite DV-37 does render a better picture. The F-84 Panasonic Multi-Disc player does the same. Videowise it is still a great player to use.
AUDIO: VG through opt/coax output. G thru analog output.
Through my Sherwood/Minimus 7 satellite system, the audio is excellent. Through my brothers Marantz 5400/Mirage speaker set-up, the audio drops to VG. The reason is that the audio from the 525 is no match against the Pioneer Elite DV-37. The analog audio in my system was good. CD audio via coax/opt on my system was excellent. The performance in some way was better than the comparable Zenith 2300 player by sounding a little more dynamic.
There was a definite difference in picture quality between the 525 and the Panasonic F84, with that player being the winner. The 525 is still a great player to use on most home systems even in the year 2006.
I found the 525 to be an all around good preformer. The picture is great and I have not had one problem to mention. I own a couple of other name brand dvd players and the Pioneer has worked the best. I plan to buy a progressive scan next, but as for basic dvd players this one should rank at the top of the list.
