It could be much better.

by cdshot , Aug 23 '01
Pros: Plays rental VHS tapes.
Cons: Bad recording.
I purchased this unit because of the brand name, the fact that it was in my price range and also contained the 19-micron heads.

But the recording quality is just terrible, IMO, from my previous 4-head unit which is 10 years old. I get picture...

Good VCR for the price!

by keeper151 , Mar 28 '01
Pros: VCR Plus, Sony Universal Remote, and great quality.
Cons: We don't use it enough.
We do not use this VCR much now that we have Direct TV and TiVo but it is a good quality machine.

It's very easy to program, especially with the VCR+ and user friendly remote control. The picture quality is high and the machine overall is...

Sony VCR !!! Just Gotta Check it out

by Grindline10 , Nov 07 '00
Pros: great picture quality and sound
Cons: Nothing
I feel that the Sony 679 vcr is one of the best vcr's out on the market. It is very easy to use and program. This model is one of the small body formats, so if you do not have a lot of room for your vcr, this is the way to go. This vcr has 2 sets of...

Pros: ease of use
Cons: can't control tracking with remote
I've owned this VCR since December of 1999 and have had no problems with it. It is extremely easy to use, and has many convenient features. I found it easy to set up - just one cable to connect, and you're set.

This VCR is easy to program,...

Sony SLV-50

by phungus Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Aug 06 '00
Pros: Lots of features, great quality
Cons: The remote may be awkward for some
A while back I shelled out the cash for a surround sound system and DVD player. After carefully checking out as many different models as possible, I decided that for the price and quality, I would go with Sony. Sony stuff usually costs roughly 10% more...

For the enthusiast on a budget

by Ruthrauff , Jun 22 '00
Pros: Price, Quality, Brand name
Cons: Really none
Let me just say that I am a technology buff. As such, I've always been drawn to the top-of-the-line, which has usually been Sony. Now, Sony has a long tradition of both excellent engineering and exorbitant prices. Usually, the two go hand in hand,...

It Just Keeps going and going and..........

by speedskater2 , May 24 '00
Pros: Easy to Use, Durability, Cool Features, Cheap
Cons: NONE
This is a great, inexpensive, perfect in everyway, VCR. This Sony VCR has wonderful options and basic features, but does it stack up to the flashy, and expensive hi-tech VCR's? Yes it does! That is the main reason I bought this VCR, because it...

Pros: Excellent picture quality
Cons: none that I could think of
I bought this VCR because I had heard and read many good things about it. I was looking for a VCR that was good and reliable.

I’ve had a Sony VCR for about 6 months now. I haven’t had any problems with it yet, and I've been very satisfied...

Dynamite Machine

by Hamilton62 , Apr 15 '00
Pros: Simple, elegant, just sophisticated enough
Cons: A couple of techy features that puzzle me
I actually have this VCR's first cousin, the Sony 688HF; the two are almost identical. I paid about $200 a little over a year ago, so I think the 679HF is more recent. But what a machine this is! Reliable, useful, high quality, this is the way VCRs...

Pros: High quality and handles a lot of use.
Cons: I haven't came across any as of yet.

NOT EVEN SONY PARTS!!!

by mandc , Apr 05 '00
Pros: NONE
Cons: Cheap, unreliable
I work at a vcr/dvd repair shop and I have noticed one thing about Sony products, they don't have sony parts! As amazing as that sounds, it is true. It is sad but true, and also, no matter what brand you bought, if you bought it for under $300, then it...
