While most of my friends at school were strutting around with CD players, I was walking around with a state-of-the-art MP3 player! The RCA Lyra. I had purchased a few months after it came out, back in march 2000, and have learned a lot about it since...
Pros: excellent idea, small, easy to use, great user interface, long battery life, equalizer control Cons: clumsy setup, must use RealAudio, cumbersome and inconvenient hardware setup, car performance EXTREMELY poor
A few months ago my friend purchased this Digital Player from RCA. I tried this thing out, the Lyra they call it. Interesting, I thought.
Now I love music, in fact I love it so much, that if it doesn't sound as good as it...
Pros: It does its basic job - its a light, portable mp3 player. Cons: Bad design, bad interface, annoying encoding......
Ok. It sounded good. Boy, did it sound good - for 100 english pounds (140$) I could have a brand-spankin-new mp3 player with 64mb of flash-ram. It was cheaper than the competition (by a long way) and the statistics easily measured up. When I got it I...
Pros: light, easy to use, no skipping, high quality sound Cons: flash cards need to hold more
Well, I am the queen of gadgets. I am always looking for the latest in high tech fun. So, imagine my surprise when Christmas morning I unwrapped an RCA LYRA. A small walk man type device that I had never heard of before. My family was ecstatic that...
Pros: Easily upgradable, sounds good, batteries last a while Cons: Parallel Port drive has problems, included Jukebox software is poor quality, LCD screen may break
I ordered the 64MB version of the RCA Lyra about a year ago. At the time, I was familiar with MP3 files, and had just discovered Napster. I chose this player over others, because it was the only one I could find that used CompactFlash memory, as opposed...
Pros: Lightweight, Skip-Free, Competitively Priced Cons: Loss of sound quality when compressing files to fit on Flash Card
I admit it I had MP3 Player Envy. Everytime I went to the gym I noticed people with these incredibly small players enjoying their skip free music. I tried many options, I listened to the radio, but really wanted to pick my own tunes. I burned a few...
Pros: It works Cons: It is hard to use; parallel port; required use of Real Juke Box
This product is a nightmare to learn to use. You'll need to be a good gambler or guesser to figure out all the quirks with the Lyra and more particularly with its software.
I did not buy the product, but was asked to review it at my job. I...
Pros: Quality, Convenience, Adaptable Cons: None I can think of - yet
As with anything new, and not yet familiar to everybody, there is lots of mumbo-jumbo, fast talk, and those that ‘have’, really try to fast-talk the ‘have-nots’. Yeah, so let’s get down to some straight stuff about this new gadget that keeps popping into...
Pros: Fast, simple file transfer, Belt clip Cons: Lags on startup, Buttons can be bumped easily
I have owned both a Lyra and a Nomad and I preferred the Nomad. They both have strong and weak points, which I'll summarize quickly, then go into greater detail.
Pros for Lyra:
Lyra lets you transfer files to the player a lot quicker and...
Pros: Bat. life, display, software, options, price Cons: Cons?
The RCA Lyra is an all-around great digital music player. I bought it because I wanted something that I could customize and put my own choice of music on. It plays both mp3 and RealAudio G2 format files, and is upgradable to handle future music...
Pros: everything is great Cons: the memory card cost too much.
I just got the Lyca mp3 player last night, even though I was having a little trouble with the program and the memory card a bit, but after I got everything figured out, man, I love this mp3 player.
It sounds just like the real mp3 from my computer...
Pros: Best song display, great sound quality, backlight Cons: Drains batteries like crazy, poor headphones, why does it have to load software?
RCA was one of the first large corporations producing MP3 players. When it first came out people were reluctant to buy it because people were used to buying players made by computer manufactures. The Lyra ended up shinning anyway. First of all the player...
Pros: upgradable, nice backlit screen, CF memory Cons: awkward FF/REW, power off on 1 minute pause,
I've been watching portable MP3 players for quite a while now. I've watched them start out as dinky little devices barely capable of holding more than just a few songs. I've seen them with nothing more than a digital numeric display to tell the user...
Pros: Easy to use. Nice big screen. LOUD! Nice equalizer. Cons: Nothing special about it. Encryption scheme.
Summary
Don't get me wrong; the Lyra is a capable MP3 player. The only problem is, that's it. There's nothing that sets this player apart from all the rest. Well okay, there's two differences, it's bigger than most other MP3 players out there....
Pros: Easy to use, extremely easy, great sound, 5 band equalizer, backlight is awesome Cons: No hold switch, RealJukebox is not cool, memory card has problems
(Here she is, my update of the RCA Lyra Player)
Ah yes, this little sucker has been outdated for a LONG time now. But, hey, why not fix my review anyway!?
The RCA Lyra, one of the pioneering and most well known MP3 players there...
Pros: Great Sound Cons: Startup time, buttons.........
I recently purchased the RCA Lyra Mp3 player with a 64 MB flash card. The player has it's good and bad. The lyra pumps out amazing sound, and I have cought myself making sure my headphones where pluged into the mp3 player and not my $3000 stereo system....
Pros: Affordable, user friendly, nice shape/attractive Cons: Must use realjukebox, casing is a little flimsy
I decided to buy the RCA Lyra for a few reasons. It looked the most affordable, for only about $199, and it was the most common one in stores, so it had high availability. I was very pleased when I went to Circuit City and saw it on sale for only $169....
Pros: upgradeable, reliable, easy to use Cons: no radio, small compact flash card
This player is although large, very useful. It Does not have a radio or a permanent storage compartment. It is able to be upgraded for the future. A 32MB card comes with the player but you are able to buy up to a 320MB storage for it. This is not...
Pros: wow, a new digital audio format! Cons: won't play low sample rate streams
I've already rated this device, but I wanted to chirp up again and mention that the Lyra now plays Microsoft WMA files! This advancement brings the Lyra out of the realm of ordinary MP3 player (of course, it played Real G2 files, already) and make it a...
Pros: User-adjustable equalizer. Won't skip when running. Sound is good. Rewrites music quickly and easily. Expandable. Cons: 48 minutes of music? Add'l Flash Cards Too Expensive. The screen could be smaller. Have to use Real Jukebox.
EVER SINCE I FINALLY got Napster working on my new laptop, I've spent far too much time downloading mp3s. Now, as cool as downloading music on one's computer is, there's the minor problem of: how do I listen to this while I am, for example, riding on the...
Pros: Decent interface, car accessories were a nice touch Cons: Parallel connection and file conversion time made transfer too slow - Not worth the money
From the time I purchased this player until the time I returned it, the performance was lackluster and it’s design is mediocre at best.
I purchased the Lyra because my digital camera uses CompactFlash(CF) Memory cards, and thought it would...
Pros: Slick, handsome, and completely unskippable. Cons: Battery drain, no radio, no text wrap.
I decided to buy an MP3 player the same day I discovered a friendly little program called Napster. And first of all, let me put in a plug for Ebay here, because I bought the Lyra on Ebay brand new for over $100 less than retail. I now go there first for...
Pros: A Great New Way to Listen To Music Cons: Pretty Expensive
This RCA Lyra Mp3 player is one of the best investments that you could make. This is what everyone a couple of years from now will be listening too. A downside to this is that is pretty expensive right now, but the price for it will be going down in the...
The LYRa it's simply the best all-over package at the moment. It's capable of playing MP3 files up to 120kb and (!) G2 (realplayer) files up to 96kb. Don't matter about the MPX or copy protection stuff it really doesn't matter - copying of 60mb to memory...
Pros: It has great labling abilities Cons: The memery packs are expensive
The RCA Lyra has many quilities that the other MP3 players do not have. One of the best qualities is that you can lable songs. This quality is what made the mini disc players beter. Now I think i will sell my mini disc player and get the RCA Lyra. The...
Pros: Large LCD Cons: Size, Flimsyness, No Base Memory
The RCA/Thompson Lyra isn't the best choice for your money. It's bigger than most MP3 Players, from the RIO500 (my personal favoriate) to the IJAM (which you should REALLY stay away from). It also feels a lot weaker. Just physical touch, picking it...
Pros: The light , the equalizers, long battery life (no moving parts) Cons: no time display, but that's what a watch is for
-I bought this mp3 player because it looked cool and because they were one of the first mp3 players and the first is always the best... copies are cheap
-I have had it for a while now and it has given me absolutely no problems
Pros: Powerful clear sound, skip free, a very fun tool to use. Impressive indeed. Cons: It comes in a box.
RCAs' Lyra portable MP3 player whips out more power than you would expect from such a compact and lightweight system. The sound it produces is phenomenally crisp, like biting into a cool apple it replenishes your desire to experience......music. If...
Pros: car adapter, 64mbs of ram, great compression Cons: shuts off after 5 seconds if on pause
This mp3 player has great features including backlite, 64mbs of ram that saves at least 120 minutes of music, modes to change the bass, tremble, and other contents, also it comes with a car adapter.
This is the greatest mp3 portable player due to...
Pros: Small; good sound; great battery life Cons: Mine broke; downloading music to the player is a real pain
I had a bad experience with this product. Ninety-three days after I bought it, the Fast-Forward/Next Track button stuck down. I have no idea why -- it wasn't dropped or anything, and I don't ever recall pressing this button.
Pros: Great sound; Small and very lightweight Cons: Limited Memory
RCA has done it again with this great Mp3 player. This player is very lightweight and small, so it is extremely portable. It is also great for a jog or any other exercise. It is very easy to transport your Mp3's on your computer to the device. All...
Pros: small, compact, good sound Cons: cheaply made
I bought this product cause it looked cool. Don't get me wrong, it is way cool.
The major benefits are its compactness and its ability to record many different songs, by many different artists, without having to buy any C.D.'s or Tapes....
Pros: Listen to custom made mixes that you download Cons: ?
First of all when you get this MP3 player you have to install a new drive, on my comoputer it was the E: drive, basically what you do is download MP3 files into your computer then you put the little chip, which comes right out of the MP3 player, and your...
Pros: your basic MP3 player, with good looks and one or two handy extras Cons: hard to use, uncomfortable earphones, bad music quaility
MP3 players are better than CD players for two reasons, they look cool and you can change you music. You can also change your music on a CD player, too, just switch the CD, but you can't have one song from each of your 13 CD's on your CD player, and...
Pros: Your own portable rock box! Cons: no fancy functions
Buying an MP3 player always sounding like a very cool idea, albeit a little bit of a expensive proposition. One day at best buys buying my father some family tree thing for fathers day..and BAM!
There it was, little neat display showing off this new...
Pros: easy to use, adapts to a car Cons: a bit expensive
The RCA Lyra is very easy to use. It is lightweight and smaller than a CD or tape player. It delivers better quality sound than a tape player and unlike a CD player it does not skip.
The Lyra comes with software which is easy to use. One of the...
Pros: Fair Sound, Good Display, Easy to Use Cons: Software, No new formats supported, Time to load software/songs is too long
I bought my RCA Lyra about 6 months ago. It was the first mp3 player I'd seen. I was very pleased with the Lyra for the first few months of using it. I however am not particularly pleased with the Realplayer(RealJukebox) software and the format that the...
You may be wondering why i say great, well if you buy the lyra you will find out. Great battery life, durable, and even a Green Bay Packer (otherwise known as a moron) could use it. This mp3 player is only $149.95 witch is very cheap compared to other...
The RCA Lyria mp3 player was an overall good investment, but there are a few flaws with the player. The good things that the player is that the sound quality is good, but only if you record it at the highest quality which unfortunitly takes up alot of...
This mp3 player is not that good. It uses flash cards which are overly priced ($149.99) and easy to lose. If you are going to buy an mp3 player then you should get one with internal memory not a flash card. It also takes a while to load the songs which I...
Pros: Skip-free, easy to use, convenient Cons: Price of flashcards
Several months ago, i purchased an RCA Lyra digital music player. I am an avid user of Napster and other mp3 services, so i figured that an mp3 player would be invaluable to me. Since then, i have carried my Lyra everywhere. The Lyra comes with...
Pros: Small, rugged, low power use, good sound Cons: 128k bit limit
Sure its not the most expensive or has the most features. But the fact is your friends dont have it. And you do. Therefore they will want to steal it from you.
As for the player, it has a nice little liquid crystal display that displays...
im sorry but i have had 3 mp3 players and this is not the way to go. you need 64 megs. and i know..your saying...but i can get the one with 64 megs. well listen up. that does not make the player! this player feels nice but is a bit to big for most...
I've had the Lyra MP3 player for a good 6 months and love it.
Things that I like... This MP3 player is great my favorite feature is that it plays .wma (windows media files) files. You can compress files to 60 bit rate and theres not much of a...
This product is one of many new mp3 players taking the world by storm. I have to say this is one of the neatest and coolests electronics that I have ever bought. Features include, volume, base, equalizer, onscreen display of song, short load time,...
Pros: portable, skip-free, comes with batteries, back-lit light, Cons: no fm radio, no clock
I got this product directly from RCA. Their home site makes the Lyra seem like the best thing since the Walkman, and in a way, it is. Like the portable cassette/cd player, the user has music to go. However, the advantage to an MP3 player, such the RCA...
Pros: easy to use; back-lit screen Cons: sound could be better; memory cards expensive!!
I am really into MP3's and thought this would be the perfect thing for me. When I got it I was very excited and immediately put it to use. The flash card port was a snap to install and the unit itself is very easy to use. Also the back-lit screen is...
Pros: Great concept when it works Cons: May not work with Laptops, Bad Customer Service
The Lyra is a really cool idea but beware of the bureaucratic clones on the Troubleshooting line.
I am an Internet executive who travels a great deal and has every gadget. The ability to connect a portable player with my laptop, which never leaves...
Pros: Ease of use, durability, simple Cons: Extra for RealJukebox Plus, occasonal freezing probloms
When I first bought the Lyra, I was thrilled. It came with everything I needed, and it even included a car adapter kit, which was cool. When I got home, I plugged everything in and setup the adapter and RealJukebox software that came with it....
Pros: Large screen, nice bright light, everything adjustable. Cons: short battery life
Alright folks, I got this about a year ago, and let me tell yeah, this thing is still just as good as those new ones that have come out. It has a large screen for easy viewing, a blue light for use in the dark, expandable compact flash memory, and easy...
Pros: Easy to load on music Cons: Backlight does not stay on for long
I bought this product originally just for an Okay MP3 Player. But it is great. I use mine every day. The way you download MP3s on it is so easy. It comes with a compact flash card which makes it unbelievably easy to put Mp3s on to your player. It is...
Pros: Small, stylish and fairly large storage for MP3s Cons: Battery eater, parallel port connection is SLOW!
This MP3 player is pretty good. I had problems with another manufacturer's MP3 player, so this MP3 player was my alternative. Although the other MP3 player had a faster upload time than the Lyra because of its USB connection, the Memory capability was...
I thought it would be cool to have an MP3 player. I looked around and decided to buy the RCA Lyra. It has some cool features, but I wasn't too impressed. It takes forever to transfer MP3's to the disc. The biggest problem, though, is that you...
Pros: It has the most options & Features Cons: Doesn't look that great
I bought this product because it had more features than any other mp3 player out there. It works great and I've had no problems with it. I love it because it is easy to use and has cards you can swap at any time, unlike most mp3 players. I didn't even...
I have thousands of mp3's on my computer. I listen to them all day on my computer. I wanted to listen to them away from my computer so I bought the RCA Lyra. The player is ok. It is not the best player, nor the worst player out there. The 64...
Pros: Small size, easy interface, great sound Cons: encryption
I've owned my RCA Lyra now for about a year and still love it. When I first got it I admit that I was a little turned off by the fact that I had to install Real Jukebox. Now that I have been using Real Jukebox for a while, I have come to like that...
Pros: backlight, not too complicated and easy to use, comfortable padded headphones included (not those uncomfortable ones that you stick in your ear drum) Cons: it has to "load software" before it plays the first song you play after you turn it on, batteries are dead all the time
The RCA Lyra is a good mp3 player if that's what you want: an mp3 player. It doesn't have an am/fm radio or a microphone. It doesn't have the time or a pager. But it does have a neat little feature about it...It plays mp3s.
I've read...
Pros: Plays Realplayer and MP3, No Skip Cons: costs more than a Diamond Rio
The Lyra is awesome it allows even a beginner to create a custom music soundtrack. The included Real Jukebox allows you total customability. The ability to play different kinds of files will ensure that this player never grows obsolete. I got mine with...
Pros: looks good, Cons: Drains batteries like hell, no hold button
This was the first mp3 player I got, and quite frankly, I got more and more dissatisfied the more I used it. First of all, the batteries would last 3 hours if I used Ni-Cads, it takes like 15 secs to go from off to playing the song, transfering songs takes ages, because it uses a parallel port. Also no hold button means you accidentally press buttons all the time, and it is very big and heavy compared to other players.
The sound quality is quite good, but I compared to the price I paid for it, it could only be expected. ($200US)
This is a pretty good starter mp3 player. Cheap with relatively minor flaws. The main problem i have is that i can only put up to 64 mb of memory. It seems like the only card that will work is The RCA one and thats way too pricey. One of the cards i got also died on me.
No problems with software.
Other than that its a good deal
