  • RCN- it can always be worse!

    Jul 8, 2001 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Good services at a good price.
    Cons: Customer service, as always

Summary: What have I learned, if anything, from Epinions? I have learned that customer service in the US is deplorable. I have learned that we are often shocked to find exceptional service when shopping, eating, or just trying to pay our bills. But I ... read more

  • RCN is as bad as Comcast

    Rated a Helpful Review
    Pros: Can't think of any.
Cons: Price goes up, service goes down.

Summary: I dropped comcast a couple years ago because for the price, the service and product quality was unsatisfactory. Started RCM on a promo, and it was fine for about 6 months. Then monthly, it started dropping sound, dropping channels, pixelation, etc. ... read more

    Not yet rated.
    Pros: None
Cons: No Frills, no cool apps or services. The worst tech support.

Summary: RCN is really the worst company, and whoever makes policy decisions is plain stupid.  Unfortunately, I live in a building that has only contracted with RCN, so I am FORCED to have it if I want cable service.  In the meantime, I will do my best ... read more

    Apr 28, 2010 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: None; RCN = worst cable provider on the planet (and competition is admittedly intense)
Cons: dishonest marketing and help, rude and unqualified techs, terrible service, avoid at all costs

Summary: I just switched to Comcast after 2.5 years of RCN service, 20 service calls, three new cable modems, and endless frustration.  I am so sorry I didn't switch much sooner.  RCN is not just dishonest -- they have systematized their lies into ... read more

  • RCN-- How are they still in business?

    Jun 10, 2008 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Cheap (or so I thought before they lied to me). HD Channels are clear.
Cons: Customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. You will have problems...

Summary: My negative experiences with RCN could go on for pages. In total, I've spent over 3hrs on hold waiting for reps to try and "help." The sales force will bug you non-stop and make false promises in pricing (which I am now being billed $20 extra for and ... read more

    Pros: ABSOLUTELY NONE
Cons: There isn;t enough space in this box.

Summary: I have had a horrific experience with RCN from start to finish. From the high priced a-la-carte packaging, to the excessive wait times on the phone to customer service, to the rude and completely un-helpful tele-technicians, it's been an absolute ... read more

  • Intermittent service. Crappy at primetime

    Mar 31, 2008 by

Pros: Good HD service Internet seems quick Proper phone - not VOIP
Cons: Certain channels are intermittent long hold times to customer support Customer support fairly useless

Summary: I'm based in Massachusetts and decided to go with RCN because they were doing a special triple play at $100 per month. We moved from Comcast's HD service because they jumped up the prices on their DVR service. We bought a Tivo HD to use with the ... read more

  • Great if you like glitchy television.

    May 16, 2007 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: No pros for TV when compared to other services. However, internet is reliable.
Cons: Terrible television quality and integrity. Too expensive for the kind of service you really get.

Summary: The sheer number of glitches and crashes RCN has for its TELEVISION are amazing. We have RCN in Boston, and their television service feels like a video game rushed to the market 5 months before scheduled release. On almost any given day, at least one ... read more

    Mar 20, 2007 by

Pros: Cheap for the area, will give credits when they've made mistakes.
Cons: They make quite a few mistakes.

Summary: We moved from Chicago in fall, 2006, but had RCN service for about 4 years before moving. We started out with just their phone and cable service, then added their broadband (cable modem) service. I'll divide the review then into those three areas: ... read more

Pros: Phone $35 vs. $50 VZN Cable TV service is good but sometimes wild
Cons: 30 out of 30 modems on my UBR flap.

Summary: Ever since I signed up for RCN Communications' services on Sept 25th, 2003, the experience has been extremely horrible. Day 2 of my new service, I had to have a tech out to test the modem (customer supplied) RCA DCM 245R. It could not connect to the ... read more
