Pros: Sigma is an old name, cheaper than canon glass Cons: focus and zoom rings reversed from canon lenses.
I started looking for a lens with more low end awhile ago. My primary lens that I use most of the time is a Canon 17-85 IS, that is the perfect lens for what I use it for 90% of the time but sometimes, if the action is really close even 17mm with the 1.6 ...
When I first got a digital SLR, my brother gave me some great advice. He told me to wait a few months before buying any new lenses. At the time, I had a Sigma 28-90 and a Nikkor 35-135. Those should be enough for a while. Eventually, I’d figure ...
Pros: Looks good - a classy gold ring up front! Comes with a lens hood and pouch Cons:Heavy, but then look at the focal-length range involved! Weird horizons at extreme settings.
Truth is.. I've been spoiled. All my life with Nikons, I've only ever used Nikkor lenses.Call me a glass snob, but call me.Felix the Guru always said there was nothing like The Camera Manufacturers' lenses, and he's ...
Pros: Excellent resolution, build quality, and focusing speed. Great handling on D200 body. Cons: Slow max. aperature means lighting is critical to get good images
The Sigma 10-20mm I am evaluating is one setup for use on a Nikon DX format Digital SLR. The lens I purchased came well packaged with a very nice custom case, and a small lens hood. Overall, a very quality appearing package. This lens is primarily ...
Pros: Sharp, very wide comes with cap, hood and case Cons: none
I bought this lens to replace two manual focus lenses I had.An 8mm circular fisheye and a 16mm fisheye. The older you get,the harder it is to focus the older manual focus lenses..and why would you want to ? I have the Canon 20D and Rebel XT 350.If ...
Pros: Snappy, contrasty, well made, well designed. Cons: Slow at maximum aperture.
I've been using the 10-20mm HSM Nikon mount version of the Sigma super wide zoom and really have come to treat it as my favorite lens. Here's why: 1) The wide end at 10mm is really extraordinary, and if there is a slight degradation of quality in the ...
Pros: This is a great product at a great price. Cons: Edge to edge sharpness can sometimes be an issue.
I have always been a glass snob. Never have I shot anything but Nikon glass because THAT is what sees the picture, the camera only remembers it. That being said, my wife has a Nikon 12-24 and we often shoot together and sometimes need the same lens. A ...
Excellent Value Wide Angle by lotapixel ,Mar 06 '06
Pros: Very sharp. Well made. Cons: None.
I bought this lens mainly for taking pictures of family occasions indoors. But after using it and seeing how incredibly sharp it is, I now also use it for landscape photography. I was originally considering the Canon 10-22mm lens but it was too expensive for my budget. The Sigma 10-20 was at least 25% less expensive.
It is very solidly constructed, with an excellent finish. The motor is totally silent, and very fast. The focus is always spot on. The lens is very sharp from edge to edge. It goes wide enough that you can capture everything in a room by standing in a corner. In fact you need to be careful not to get your own feet in the picture!
Pros: Great value for money, good sharpness, light Cons: Slightly over-exposed on all occasions.
Brought this lens for my Nikon D300 after extensive comparison and study with Nikon 12-24 and other similar third party lenses. This lens is truly value for money and it stretches 2 mm before on the wide side. Went to the shop and found 2 models. Tested the first one and found some softness at the left corners. The second one was perfect. Have already taken many shots with this lens in shopping centres, etc., wide open at f4 at the 10 mm end. Some distortion visible at the corners but everything captured is sharp. Another reason for buying this lens: do not wish to invest too heavily for a DX format lens as FX is around the corner!
If you need a wide zoom, this is the one to get by ianc4262 ,Apr 08 '08
Pros: Fantastic wide field of view. Cons: You will get edge distortion at full zoom no surprise there.
I have like most others the Canon 17-85 IS lens but wanted something wider for building and landscape shots.
After reading around I decided to try this lens. I've had many Sigma lenses over the years and generally been quite happy with them plus Amazon had it on sale.
I took it on a trip the the UK with me in March 08 and boy was I impressed.
At 10 mm focal length this thing gives an incredible field of view. You can look up the exact specs but I was blown away standing about 50-60 ft from the front of St Paul's and being able to see pretty much the entire building in the view finder. Yes obviously it was distorted but still.
Plus when I got the pictures on the computer I was wowed again by the sharpness of the images, they were just unreal.
While not a general purpose lens I'm still thrilled to bits with my purchase and expect may more images to come through this lens.
The lens has a nice deep black matt rubberized finish that feels nice to the touch and gives a real quality feel.
