Pros: Lots of services and incentives; Good customer service
Cons: No rewards on this card; High interest rate if one payment is late
Credit cards are issued by all the major banks in the United States and by the majority of smaller banks, too. This type of service is very profitable, so it’s no wonder that banks are so anxious to gain approval for the issuance of credit cards. One ...

Cons: Must abide by their repayment terms or they will raise rates and charge fees.
I have had an account with Citibank since 1996 and they have proven themselves as very fair-minded creditors. I would suggest that if you really don't need a credit card, then don't apply for one. However, if you do need one to build your credit or for ...

One of the worst cards around!

Pros: I can't think of any. Really. They are awful.
Cons: Late fees that are huge!
Citibank is terrible. They don't have an auto-pay option for their cards and that can result in late fees if you have a busy lifestyle (as I do). The minimum fee I have been charged for being late was $39. Hello usury. Now take a guess at how late I was? ...

Citibank Mastercard - - forget about consumer protection
by bklndh ,Oct 02 '03
Pros: I like the American Airlines mileage.
Cons: No protection from credit card company if deal with disreputable merchant
I bought a service with my Citibank Mastercard which was performed negligently and caused serious damage(namely, a facial which left me with scars over most of my face for two weeks and required medical attention). I sent Citibank Mastercard a request to have the charge reversed and included a photograph of the scars taken by a doctor. I got a form letter back saying that since I got the facial, I had to pay for it.

Most of us believe that, as consumers, we are protected from shoddy merchants if we pay by credit card. Not so if you pay by Citibank Mastercard. By the way, the decision is made at Mastercard, not Citibank, and Citibank has no say in how Mastercard decides it. So this would apply to any Mastercard.

Loyalty Means Nothing
by gangway ,Oct 07 '05
Pros: Don't mean much anymore...plenty of other options...
Cons: bad service, high interest rate, lack of compassion and understanding, accusatory...
Customer service, what? Citibank needs to train people representing their services better because right now they appear to serve no one but themselves. Only if you mean a lot of $$$'s to them do they seem to give you any respect as a customer. I've had the MasterCard for over 10 years and recently have zeroed out my extremely high balance but still continuing to use the card on and off but noticed they've been treating me like a piece of sh#t every time I've called in for 'Customer Service' since. They've gotten plenty of profits off me over the years when I did have a high balance and I do not deserve to be treated in this manner for whatever reason. Rather than directing me to a higher level personnel for my concerns, the person I dealt with over the phone decided to accuse me of things and called me names and tried to cut me off and hang up on me. Just because of this, I am highly discouraged from ever using this card again!

Interest charges on zero balance
by grey1 ,Dec 26 '05
Pros: None. Run from this company!
Cons: "Cons" sums it up!
Twice in the last two months, after paying the entire balance promptly, I was charged interest on a zero balance by Citibank. Worse yet, they actually tried to justify these charges by stating that the additional interest charges were "late posted" by them. Both times, I had to threaten to call the Attorney General's office before they would remove the charges.
Citibank's behavior is not unlike a con artist, constantly looking for new weighs to cheat honest people out of their money. I'll be switching credit companies.

CItibank is awful
by ihatecitibank ,Feb 12 '08
Pros: lots of locations
Cons: dishonest, unintelligent employees, unresponsive/rude customer service, and general incompetence/theivery.
Citibank customer service is a joke and they are exeptionally dishonest. They block accounts for no reason, and apologize and admit doing so but do not compensate a person for bounced checks/inability to pay bills due to the block. Citibank is a champion of slipping fees where there shouldn't be any: I set up a college student debit account (meaning no monthly service charge) when to my surprise I was being charged $12 per month, as well as charges for carrying a low balance. Only after MASSIVE amounts of complaining and threats did Citibank refund my money. Then, the debit cards stopped working and they issued a temporary card that is unable to be used anywhere but ATMs and never sent a replacement until I went in person to the branch to scream at their typically rude and unintelligent employees. DO NOT USE CITIBANK!

Hey

Don't use CITI bank's credit card! It's my own story, and beware what they charge you. It's really happened on me.

Well this April I got CITI's credit card, and I schedule my card payment on early April, well my first bill should be due on 06/13, and next day I checked CITI didn't draft from my account, so I went to pay online, and next statement I got is they charge me late fee plus interest, and I called them to explain, their service person is rude, only tell me to choose pay my bill on time or just cancel card. Well that's what I did, cancel the card!!!

Pros: the way a credit card company should be run.
Cons: none that i can think of.
while dealing with any bank can be frustrating, i think my 15 year experience as a credit card customer at citibank is relatively excellent. although i suppose part of my experience is reflective of the fact that i use my card with them a lot, my recollection is that even when i was a "small fry" customer they were unusually forgiving about late fees and things like that (i've long maintained two different residences and even though i feel like it's my responsibility to check for missed bills when i'm away from my billing address they've forgiven the late fee several times over the years when i've missed a payment by a couple of days.) i also just love that neither their phone number nor their payment address ever changes!

Citigroup Mastercard does not protect its customers
by glarre1 ,Dec 22 '06
Pros: No more than any other card.
Cons: Bad customer complaint resolution service.
Citigroup Mastercard has a confusing and vague customer-vendor resolution policy which results in complaints being resolved in favor of the vendors. In the case of a car repair, the service center misdiagnosed the computer code readout and proceeded to replace the wrong parts. The Citigroup Mastercard resolution department refused to intercede on behalf of the customer by playing semantics with language. They claimed that they could only decide in favor of the customer when there was faulty repair, not misdiagnosis. When asked to define the difference between the two, they were unable to. I have decided to cancel all of my Citigroup Mastercard cards. Customers should be aware, before they get a Citigroup Mastercard, that the cards are stacked against them (pun intended), and that they may not be protected from unscrupulous vendors. Other credit card services do a much better job in this regard.

beware of finance charges
by mitzi1122 ,May 05 '04
Pros: No charges accrue if balance is paid in full
Cons: Extra charges would not occur with a 25 day grace period.
I had been using my Citibank credit card for purchase payments. I usually pay off my balance in full so I was outraged when I realized they did not offer a 25 day grace period unless the balance was paid in full. What this means is that the one month I did not pay off my balance, I had to pay finance charges for 2 months. I called the company to find out why I was still being charged finance charges after I paid off my balance in full and they explained why. I immediately stopped using that credit card and canceled it!

Slow to Process Payments
by cascaisgirl ,Mar 07 '07
Pros: None. Just an average bank.
Cons: Short grace period (15-21 days, 1 week shorter than others) Long time to "receive" payments
I've had a Citicard for a long time, as well as about 5 other cards from various large banks. I have noticed that payments sent out to Citibank consistently take longer to be "received", and of course credited to the account, when compared to other large banks. This week, I sent out full payments to Chase, WAMU, and Citibank, on the same day. Chase and WAMU were credited in 4 days, over a weekend no less. But Citibank, 7 days later, still has not credited my payment. I think that they try to collect as much interest as possible, and try to grab a late fee and the resulting higher rate whenever possible.

Citi humiliates customer
by sbbulldog ,Jan 09 '07
Pros: Free benefit card (big deal: bigger profit to them)
Cons: Ruin my day, sacrifice my business. DON'T ACCEPT POOR SERVICE
I spent a shopping trip in San Francisco going out and...shopping. After half a dozen trouble free charges, I was denied a Nordstrom charge that required the store to make a phone call. After I spoke with the Citibank rep, the charge was approved.

I live in California, about 300 miles from SF. I was no where near my very big limit. Why was I hassled? Because the Bank guarantees the charge. I have no liability for fraud. So instead of asking for picture ID, or some other reasonable contact, they tried to protect THEMSELVES. Since they make big bucks, like in my normal year $5,000 profit to Citi on my $100K plus charges, why should I be inconvenienced and humiliated and have my vacation time wasted?

Needless to say, I will NOT be using their card. I am over 55 and have great credit and have lots of experience with free, benefit cards. This experience showed me that CITI is the WORST. Never had this experience with Providian, MBNA, or my credit union.

Refuse to admit mistake
by sickofcredit ,Jan 24 '07
Pros: None
Cons: Customer service reps are rude and don't care.
Citibank is refusing to work with us on our credit card account after they are the ones who gave us incorrect info, which we acted upon. It's even in their notes. Now we are being charged a 32% usury interest rate that has caused us to go over our limit after working very diligently the past year to bring our account current after financial difficulty.

When attempting to discuss with supervisors, we were hung up on twice because they did not want to admit mistake. Now we are stuck with the results with no recourse as far as we can tell. Who has the money to sue such a huge company? And they know it.
