Pros: No Pros Cons: They do have some nice and knowlegeble tellers...
We had a mistake and overdrew by $5 bucks. I caught the mistake the next day and covered the money we overdrew (transfer from another 5/3 account) and extra to cover a normally 30 overdraft fee. However, since I had overdrawn ...
Jeanie Says: "Kick Em When They're Down!" by magikist ,Dec 06 '06
Pros: Branch employees are cool. They're always really friendly. Cons: FEES, FEES AND MORE FEES. Your mistakes are FifthThird's bottom line.
If you make a mistake and overdraw by a few dollars as I did, be warned as the result is a black hole of overdraft fees, "over the limit fees", "daily overdraft fees," and whatever other fees the Fifth Third Jeanie can invent. Before you know it, you're trapped into losing at least a paycheck's worth of wages. Fifth Third is probably the most unforgiving bank in existence, and everyone in Cincinnati seems to know this. Fifth Third is also notorious for holding payment on items until your within $2-3 of being overdrawn. Then that debit card item you charged 3 months ago is suddenly paid causing you to be overdrawn. This my friends is how the Fifth Third Jeanie M.O. Jeanie is a sneaky girl.
Further, Fifth Third's bank buildings in Ohio and Kentucky are all cookie cutter "Mike Brady Signature Ugly." Same ugly ghetto scraper, different city. Their bank branch buildings look like Burger King resteraunts from the 80's.
Do not get an HSA with this Bank by seeingstar ,Jan 30 '08
Pros: none Cons: No customer support for HSA accounts. All 800#'s lead to same call center.
My HSA had money taken out by the bank at the end of the year without my permission. This account had a roll over on it.
I've called 4 different numbers that all lead back to one call center who has no access to my HSA account info they just keep telling me to call the 888# for the HSA branch. This number is only available between 8am and 5pm CST while I'm at work.
I called the HSA number today before closing and it had already switched to the recorded call back later prompt.
What Crap. No idea where the cash went and no one who can access the information after hours.
Will be closing this account if I ever get to chat with a live person.
Pros: NONE! Cons: Shady practices of collecting overdraft fees.
If your account gets low, watch out! Transactions will magically appear (like $1.50 card fees from weeks before) that will start the overdraft fees snowballing.
Absolute Worst Stay FAR AWAY! by xloadiex ,Mar 26 '07
Pros: Right across the street from my house Cons: If your looking to lose money,go with Fifth Third.
Charged an overdarft fee of 33.00 on a pending charge of 4.00. A check was deposited the same day. They figure their checks and balances so they can charge overdraft fees. I've been with this branch for 23 years before Fifth Third took over. I'll now be looking for a new bank.
Customer service uses cut-and-paste responses by domingjm ,Nov 22 '08
Pros: free checking Cons: everything else. please, this company is a racket.
Please, I cannot say enough negative things about fifth third customer service. I have encouraged everyone that I know to withdraw their accounts. Briefly, in June 2008, I paid for a piece of hardware at an online retailer (Tuul Shed). They never sent the hardware despite payment. After a number of unanswered correspondences, I believe the retailer to be out of business. I send all of the dispute-related material to Fifth Third in July 2008. This is a very straight-forward situation. However, they have been stalling, indicating that they need more material. This is a farce, and the resolution was that they stalled long enough (90-days) to claim that there is nothing that can be done now. Racket.
I was customer of this bank for 2 years. I used their credit card for over 2 years. During the course of these 2 years I must have spent more then 30,000 $ with this credit card and paid each and every payment on time (My credit score is over 750). Finally when I moved to California I paid off all my credit card amount and cancelled the checking account because I started banking with Wamu. Fifth Third bank folks stopped showing me the online information for my credit card as well (though it was still operational). Then one fine day they sent me a big credit card bill (with no details about spending) along with a letter telling me that I am going to be delinquent etc. etc.
I called up their customer service 4 times (literally) asking about the details about my spending they never sent me any details neither did they log my requests made through the phone calls so that everytime I called the operater would think I m lying.
Finally afraid having bad credit. I paid off the amount without questions.
Never never never bank with these cheats, not to mention their arrogant customer service
I would rather sever my arm with a chainsaw than bank with this bank for one more day. I've been banking with them since August of 2001, and never had an overdraft charge until they changed the way their banking is set up last year. Now, it's based on an "available" balance, where they subtract the pending items, then post items from largest to smallest. This creates way more overdraft fees. Not to mention, if you deposit a check, only $100 goes into the "available" balance. If you get cash back from the deposit, that accounts for the $100, and then nothing goes into "available". We've never actually carried a "negative" balance, even though we've been charged overdrafts left and right. It's a messed up way of doing business, and I recommend staying away from this bank at all costs. You would be better off burying your money than putting it into one of their accounts. At least you would have money left at the end of the day.
Fee Scam & Poor Customer Service by fifththirdfees ,Dec 29 '08
Pros: None Cons: Fees/False Fee Schedule/Poor Customer Service
Beware of Fifth Third Bank fees. They claimed there would be a $6 fee per day, plus a $33 fee on a one time mistake of a $10 overdraft. This happened while I was on my honeymoon and over the Christmas weekend. The $6 a day turned into $30 a day, including weekend and holidays. This was not what my statement said that was sent to my home. If it makes no sense to you, imagine how I felt. I tried to immediately close the account, but they would not until I left to get cash for the near $150 in fees.
I have never written a review or statement online: This is how strong I feel about writing a review now. Please beware.
Lousy Customer Service...High Fees by dckloos ,Feb 07 '07
Pros: None that I can find during my experience. Cons: Staff knowledge, lack of customer service, poor products, Higher fees.
Went into branches a few times, and was treated rudely by staff at different locations. When asked to for a call back, no returned calls from staff. When inquired about products staff could not explain details and had to reference brochures. Caught fees on statements and interest being miscredited. When challenged they reluctantly corrected without apology, and try to bill me for research fees. I have had friends with similar stories.
