Pros: Low introductory interest rate Cons: High fees; Unethical practices; Weak customer service
Most Americans hold at least one visa or master card from a well- known financial institution. Among the many issuers of credit cards, First USA ranks among the most popular. This credit card company is headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, and it’s the...

Pros: You can charge things with it Cons: Everything else
My FirstCard (which was not part of First USA back when I got it) was my first real credit card (I had a low limit - $500 - Visa from my credit union). I got it in college, when credit card companies hand out credit like candy. It soon upgraded to a...
Pros: Well, they seem to offer a lot of decent balance transfer options. Cons: They need to do a better job of communicating to their customers.
Here's the review I wrote about First USA back in early 2000: If I were the President in charge of Consumer Affairs for First USA Credit Cards, I would fear for my job. I know of no one who has had a positive experience with First USA. All of ...
A number of years ago I got a First USA Card (back then it was FirstCard). It had a high interest rate, but I wasn't as financially "astute" as I am now. I didn't use it much and usually paid it off in full when I got the bill. After I...
Pros: They have a nice website! Cash back. Cons: APR too high, fees
Originally I had a GE Rewards Mastercard, but recently First USA bought them, or the credit card department, or what-have-you. I had always been happy with my card when it was a GE card, however it has since become a nightmare!
Pros: none Cons: awful to do business with, charges late fees in error, raises interest rates
My first and foremost advice is DO NOT get a credit card with First USA, also known as Bank One. I've had a card with them for 3 years and have had endless problems.
Things were fine for the first year. The company was very easy to...
Pros: it is a VISA, accepted almost everywhere Cons: ballooning interest rates, poor customer service, shameful money handling
First USA offers some amazing deals. Low interest rates, balance transfer checks, and ATM pin numbers are just a few of the ones which got our attention. But be careful, signing a contract with First USA is like making a deal with the devil.
I got a credit card from First USA because they were offering a great interest rate on balance transfers. The interest rate was good only if no payment was ever late, at which time it would jump up into the 20% range. No problem, I thought. I am...
When I was 19, I received my very first credit card, a First USA Visa. Looking back, I'm glad to say I was very responsible with my card, always paying the balance on time and never abusing the "credit" privileges. I had a great...
Pros: occasional low interest promotional rate offers Cons: participate in mail and phone frauds
My husband and I have only been married 4 happy years. We both happened to have First USA Visa cards, accounts opened when we were single, and on occasion, we have taken advantage of special low rate offers they have made to transfer higher rate...
Pros: No fee for vru payments,
product trade abilities,
resolicitation offers,
24 hour service.
Cons: All notices should be enlarged, printed red on statements, so there would be no excuses
I've had many credit cards: Citibank, Discover, American Express, Chase, Bank of America, Universal Card, Providian and Capitol One, just to name a few, but I must say that the only card in my wallet now is First Usa previously First Card due to their...
Pros: Good interest rate Cons: Late fees, bad customer service
First USA has the distinction of being the only credit card in my 20 years of using cards that has charged me a late fee. I admit that my payment, due to whatever reason, did arrive 1 day late, but it cost me a $29 fee.
Pros: Lots of freebies, many opportunities for low APR, no annual fee. Cons: none
I was surprised to find all of the negative reviews on First USA. I have had several cards with them over the last several years, and I have never had a problem that they didn't clear up fast and courteously. Here's my experience.
Pros: online banking * high credit limit * grace period each month if you pay off your balance * no yearly fee Cons: very high interest rate * very high penalty fees * telemarketer phone calls
If you decide to become a First USA credit card holder you will find perks and downfalls with their service. I suppose the good features slightly outweigh the bad ones, since I have been an active cardmember since 1995.
Pros: no actual billing mistakes -- is that a pro? Cons: no sense of "customer service," seemingly capricious decision-making.
Of all the the credit cards I have ever had, this one was the worst. They did the usual -- start with a low APR and quickly but incrementally raise it, (like we won't notice going from 6.9% to 21.0% if they do it in three or four steps...) But most...
Pros: Excellent service, flexible rewards programs, large selection of cards Cons: No smart chips on premium cards, high annual fees on some cards
When I first took a card with First USA, I expected the worst. I have since replaced my original account with several cards issued by the bank, including the First USA VISA Signature card. Surprisingly, this card has become one of the ones I use the...
Pros: If you like being miserable, they will gladly accommodate you. Cons: Poorest service I have ever gotten in anything.
About 4 years ago I had gotten a FirstUSA Visa card which had a rate of 14.99%. At the time I didn't have a Visa card and I figured I would not use the card much, but little did I know the grief I was going to get with the card.
Pros: Offers good deals (but good luck actually getting them) Cons: Doesn't follow up on promises
First, let me start out by saying that my main basis for choosing a charge card is "What's in it for me?" My card of choice is Chase Mastercard, which gives me $25 in gift certificates for every $1500 I spend. My husband and I use our cards for...
Pros: None Cons: unfair interest rate hikes on fixed rates, "bait and switch" practices, poor customer service
UPDATE 7/27/01: I was finally transferred to a Manager upon my third phone call to First USA. The Manager is crediting half of my July payment because of the rate hike without notification. I have closed out the account and payment is being sent to...
Pros: good introductory credit limit Cons: customer service, late fees, interest rate jumps, and on and on...
I too experienced a wide range of difficulties with First USA. I received a credit card offer from them seven years ago, and accepted. I was completely taken in by the low introductory interest rate they were offering (6.9%), and understood that on-time...
When I was first married, my husband, who didn't have any credit established in the USA, decided to apply for a First USA card. He listed me as an authorized user, or maybe they set it up that way, I don't even remember.
This card started out to be a good card. I chose it because it allowed me to get a joint account with my boyfriend without checking his credit history. It also had a good introductory rate (5.9%, but since then I have seen many cards with better...
I used to have a First USA card. They enticed me with a low teaser rate for educators. I read the fine print carefully and saw what the rate would go up to and that was still acceptable to me. However, one day I got a statement and the APR had...
Pros: FUSA got their just reward! Cons: Opening an account.
Class Action Suit that is! Today's mail brought a letter that made me laugh. Actually it was more like a dirty little snickering giggle. It seems that First USA charge cards have finally been snared for their dirty deeds. They have been charged in a...
Pros: Easy to get, Attractive offer Cons: Hard to get rid of.
I've had an account with FirstUSA now for a couple of years. I initially worked up a substantial balance with them, but I finally worked myself into a position where I'm only a couple of months away from being able to close this line. Let me tell you...
Pros: low introductory rate Cons: use trick tactics to make money and force you into higher interest payments
I'll admit I was suckered in by their sweet balance transfer rate of 2.9%. I knew the 2.9% rate was only good for a year, and would jump to 9.9% at the end of 12 months, but even 9.9% was a heck of a lot better than the interest on some of my other...
Pros: You might get a few months of a good APR before they raise your rate or charge you a late fee Cons: Questionable practices in registering payments on time, poor customer service
Like many people, I got a FirstUSA card (they can also be found as BankOne cards) because they gave me a great offer with a low APR and a great deal on balance transfers. And like many others, I transferred a big balance over to First USA without any...
Pros: Great consumer care Cons: little bit higher rates
I have seen a lot of the negative reviews of First USA posted here. While I agree that the interest rate has not been the best, I have to say that First USA has been a good card for me. They helped me out of a tight spot, and have been more than willing...
This is it. I've had it with this horrible company. For a couple of years after I became a First USA customer, everything was ok. Then after First USA was taken over by Bank One, I noticed that my payments were being posted late -- even though I was...
Pros: 9.9% APR, rapid credit increases, online account access Cons: None so far
Let me start by saying that I have not had any problems with my card from First USA Bank NA, which I have had for about a year. Judging by the other epinions that I have read about this credit company, I am about the only one.
Pros: unsolicited approvals with generous credit lines Cons: fees for everything, unbending rules
I have had a First USA Visa for a long time; they sent me an "approved" application in the mail and I received the card and I had no problems with it. Some time later, I requested two cards under my account for my daughters while they were...
Hi Fellow Epinioners, I've had such an overwhelming response to my first posting that I've added more info and a couple of phone numbers that might help. Good Luck!
Do not get a First USA card, there are plenty of other credit card issuers...
Pros: Great service, accurate statements Cons: high finance charges, no incentive or point programs
I was shocked to see so many bad reviews for First USA. I've had a card with them for years now and have not yet had a problem. The worst thing that ever happened was I asked for them to lower my finance charge due to hardship and they refused. This was...
First USA credit card is really okay! I have had this credit card for about two years, and I received the offer for it in the mail. The introductory rate of 2.9% for six months was very much welcomed, but the fixed APR of 9.9% was what really caught...
Pros: None Cons: They could care less about the customer!
My husband and I have been together for 12 years. Before we met he had a visa card, First USA. I do not know if that was their name back then, but we had been loyal customers for over 12 years. Never had a late payment, sometimes paying more than the...
Pros: A credit limit... whoo hoo! Cons: Everything imaginable!
FirstUSA got me in my freshman year in college. They had a low starting APR rate and gave me a free T-shirt, of course I signed up! Little did I know what I was getting into. This is one of the most unethical and unprofessional companies that I have...
Pros: Well Trained Staff, Unlimited Online Bill Pay, National Bank Cons: Your Friends Only If You Know How To Use A Credit Card
First USA is Bad?!?!?! First USA is Terrible !?!?! First USA is out to swindle the customer ?!?! Hmm…I must admit that I was happy to see an Epinion section on First USA, but flabbergasted to see the number and severity of the bad reviews. I...
Pros: Nothing, Don't believe them, they are full of baloney Cons: Everything wrong and nothing is as they say
First USA Visa and I have a very intense relationship which just recently came to a draconian end. We hate each other. I know they hate me because they so much as told me so through their representatives. I have had nothing but trouble from the first...
I, too, was taken in by the low introductory A.P.R. of only 4%. This was o.k. for about 3 months until my rate went up to 21%! I do not have bad credit, I had a good job - there was absolutely no reason for them to raise it so high.
Pros: Eventually responded to complaint Cons: Arbitrary change in fixed interest rates
This is how I won the battle against First USA:
A few years ago I decided to use First USA as a credit line to replace obsolete office equipment in my CPA practice. They offered a 9.9% fixed interest rate. I read the fine print and saved the...
Pros: none Cons: Rude, no grace period if payment a couple of days late
I really don't know how they can still be in business. From reading the reviews here, I can tell that I am not alone in my loathing for this company. I couldn't think of anything to list as a pro with this card.
Pros: Courteous customer service, dispute resolution, on-line account management Cons: Inflexible rules, needs to give customer incentive to stay with bank
First USA was the first credit card I ever had, courtesy of the LLBean Visa. They had good incentives, and a good intro APR, and free Fed Ex shipping on anything ordered thru LL Bean. I later also got a San Diego Zoo Platinum card, because they offered...
Pros: Low Introductory Rates Cons: DECEIVING ADVERTISING, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE
I have multiple First USA credit cards. This is because the banks that I originally received my cards through apparently sell to First USA. I have never knowingly made an application for a First USA account and I can tell you I won't be in the future...
Pros: None Cons: 4% charge for using the card and paying in foreign currency.
If you have a First USA credit card and enjoy traveling to foreign countries, I highly recommend you Leave Home Without It! If you have a First USA card, read your account agreement sent when you applied for your application and received the card. ...
Pros: Low rates, special "At Your Request" personal service offer, good customer service Cons: Need to lower their rate to 0.0% (just kidding)
Well, I'll be honest...I came to this part of epinions to write a splendid review of First USA but after reading the other reviews of the company, I have decided to change my direction for my review.
Pros: Absolutely None! Cons: Change rates without warning or actual cause!
I love the design on my First USA card. I signed up about a year and a half ago through my Alma Mater. It wasn't because of the "low introductory rate" but because the rate was fixed at 9.9%. Now with my degree in accounting, "fixed rate" has always...
Pros: Low Introductory Rate Cons: High Interst rate after intro, plus to many high fees
First USA starts out with a great deal, offering you low interest rates on balance transfers, but the low rate doesn't last that long.
Once they have you the fun starts for them.
First the low interest rates start increasing. Next you'll...
Pros: THERE ARE NONE Cons: MOST AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE
I had a Bank One credit card I frequently used. I was solicited at an alma mater's football game to enroll for a First USA card, and I signed up. Never used the First USA card until I found that Bank One and First USA are the same. I activated the...
Pros: None Cons: Bad Service, Annoying Calls and Mail
I had nothing but problems with my First USA account. I took the card initially because of the low APR, only to find out that once that period was over, I would be charged 22% interest on the account. I found this out the very same day that I received...
Pros: NONE Cons: Discriminate against women, poor phone system, poor email system, can't talk to anyone of importance
I believe my multiple emails and their response speak for themselves:
I would never use First USA for 3 reasons: One they discriminate against women, they have a terrible phone system and their email is equally frustrating.
Pros: Another company with pretty cards Cons: Poor customer service, frequent disconnects
I love Boxers and have an AKC Registered Boxer. For this, First USA sent me an application for a Boxer Credit Card. I thought it was cool so I ordered it. Got it, loved it , used it. Until last year.
Pros: Good website Cons: ho hum service, like everyone else
I first got my Platinum First USA Visa 4 years ago right after graduating from college. I had about $1000 in seemingly revolving credit card debt (I would pay something just over the minimum every month) at the time and the balance transfer they offered...
Pros: Helpful customer service Cons: High Annual fee
I have pretty high expectations about customer service when it comes to dealing with large companies. To my surprise, I have not had a bad experience (yet) with First USA.
Just to clarify, I am writing about the card which charges $60/year...
It's interesting to read all of these negative comments about First USA.
I thought I was the only one who had been royally screwed by them!!
Here's my story......
I had a credit card with them for about 10 years. Actually,...
Pros: very few -- and they don't outweigh the cons!!!! Cons: Shoddy practices, slow posting of payments, ballooning rates
I first got a FUSA card in the early 90s and was really impressed with their rates and service. My payments were just about always in on the due date ... once in awhile they might have been posted a day later, but back in the early days they had a grace...
Pros: Reward point program Cons: revolving debt, takes a lot of points to earn $
I've had my First USA Priority Club Visa for a year now. Let me preface by saying that I never keep a revolving debt, so I couldn't even tell you what my interest rate is on the card. I imagine it is high like most any credit card. I opened this card...
Pros: Low APR Cons: They will sell your personal info to EVERYONE!
Forget the APR, the balance transfer bonuses... this is a dangerous card.
First USA gives your personal information, including your credit card number to outside merchants. These merchants call you and offer you all sorts of things, from...
Pros: Great card if you like to argue with customer service reps Cons: almost impossible to pay your bill; fees galore
First off, I wish to tell anyone reading this review that it's been two years since I have had the terrible First USA credit card. They may have improved their service since then, but they had such a long way to go, that I doubt they have made...
Pros: Good customer service Cons: It's a credit card - say no more
Facts is Facts, Right?
When it comes to getting a credit card, it should be very easy to make a choice between brands and issuing companies, right? I mean, all you have to do is find the best interest rate or the most appropriate...
Pros: Good interest rate, no annual fee, online service is good Cons: Short grace period, questionable methods when assessing fees
We signed up for a First USA Titanium card about 2 years ago. We receive many offers through the mail for credit cards and chose this one due to the low fixed interest rate (9.9%), the low introductory rate (2.9%), and the fact that it had no annual...
Pros: Low intro rate, reasonable payments Cons: VERY unorganized customer service dept
Like many people today, we are working to eliminate all our debt. When First USA came through with a low introductory rate, we jumped at the opportunity. We transferred our largest balance, and rejoiced at our savings in interest. We started out with the...
Pros: Good rate/reward program Cons: Payment processing delays
I have had a First USA account for over a year and at first, it offered a great rate and a bonus point system. The intro rate they suck you in at was 2.9% and I got a free tennis bag just for signing up. I actually had to charge something first, before...
Pros: low rate Cons: high rate if you miss 2 payments; phone calls galore!
This card is going to be cancelled! I signed up for a First USA card because of their low rates and because we wanted to consolidate a couple of higher interest rate cards. Well, we're no longer getting the benefit of a low rate because we were late on...
Pros: Amazing Customer Service, Web Account Access Cons: sill have interest rates, have to pay, otherwise none so far
I have been a First USA Visa Platinum card holder for about 3 years. I saw an online ad for a card that gave discounts at online merchants. I shopped online a lot so I thought I'd give it a try. Not only did I get a card that gave me credit for buying...
Pros: Not a single one! Cons: Charging you even after you're dead!
It started with a new heating system that cost about $3000. So my husband charged it on his First USA Visa. It was definitely a necessity (and he did this before we married). By the next year we had our baby and will all the financial difficulty in...
Pros: THEY HAVE A FAIRLY GOOD WEBSITE. Cons: THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IN AUSCHWITZ WAS BETTER. THE PEOPLE MANNING THEIR PHONES ARE TOTAL IMBECILES!
This letter will speak volumes for the ineptitude of the customer service department of First USA Bank. They give a new meaning to the word incompetence.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
I am contacting you concerning a minor discrepancy in...
Pros: NONE! Cons: Terrible service; Lack of accountability; Borderline fraud
First USA is like an uncontrolable cancer! The only thing they seem to be good at is swallowing up other banks. When it comes to taking care of the customers they already have, FORGET ABOUT IT!
There are countless reasons for avoiding F.U.S.A...
Pros: Phone service works, good card perks Cons: I have never seen a less reliable Internet site from a major company
I've had my First USA card for years, and I've had service typical of credit card companies. They've never raised my credit limit when I've desperately needed it - only months later. They've not sent a bill once or twice. But they've always been...
Pros: great credit limit Cons: fees, fees, and more fees
We have a First USA mastercard with what I consider a pretty good interest rate (for a credit card), but the fees are eating us alive! Every month there is some kind of fee...periodic rate adjustment..45.00, annual fee 38.00, etc. It is awful! They send...
Pros: Not really any come to mind Cons: Total lack of security for your personal information.
This is a tale of caution to anyone thinking about getting a First USA credit card, and one of warning to anyone currently carrying one and using their online account system.
I recently canceled my card because I no longer use it. It took me 4...
Pros: On-line functionality Cons: No reward program, customer service
I have a First USA Visa credit card ( through my local bank ) as a second alternative to utilize on my credit card purchases when my primary card, the Smithsonian Institution Discover/Novus card is not accepted. As I stated in the title, it is acceptable...
Many changes have gone on with this one. The First USA name was phased out last year and all cards now have the Bank One name. A few years ago, the bank refused to be bought out by another bank. Now, JP Morgan Chase has bought out Bank One. One of my ...
Pros: Live Broadway Rewards program Cons: Shady business practices (make sure you read the small type!)
I originally got this card because I was carrying a balance on another credit card and they offered a lower rate and had the Broadway rewards program. Somehow, though, when I got my bills, the interest charges seemed HIGHER than before! Later I found...
Pros: CSRs frame disinformation with "please" & "thank you." The tone, not the substance, of courtesy. Cons: This bank is evil. Representatives lie; expect unexpected charges and horrid customer service.
I have had a ten year relationship with First USA, and have paid three hefty cards in full. I agreed to have my minimum payments automatically debited from my account (ensuring that I would not make a single late payment) because a customer rep. told me...
Pros: Can't really think of any Cons: Poor service
I have my First USA visa card since college, which is over 5 years ago. During these 5 years, I have never paid them late, and I have paid the full amount every month (maybe I am not a very good customer to them as they have never earned any interest...
I first got this card a few years back because the interest rate was very reasonable and it wasn't a teaser rate. The bank gave us lots of opportunities to transfer balances from other cards with higher interest rates and I did that. What a...
Pros: rewards, prompt dispute resolution Cons: Don't use it to carry debt
A lot of people give First USA a "thumbs down" for various reasons, mostly because they are in debt up to their eyeballs, and are getting nailed on interest charges and fees. Well, guess what? If you stop using it that way, you would have a...
Pros: Not a single one Cons: Trash. This company is absolute trash.
This has gone on for TWO YEARS. Charged $1,000 in Jan. 2000. Paid on time in full by check in Feb. 2000. FirstUSA mis-codes the check for only $100, but gets full credit from my bank. Same old song and dance: send us the proof, they say. We do: SIX...
Pros: NONE Cons: Watch out for the interest rate hikes!
I have had a credit card with First USA Bank, N.A. for several years(at least six, possibly more.) The best thing I can say about the whole experience is that it was easy to qualify, and in the beginning, the interest rate was comparable to other banks'...
Pros: Polite, knowledgeable Customer Service Cons: Does not care about customers
Arbitrarily applies hidden policies
I had a $13,500 credit line with First USA Visa and had never made a late payment or given them any other reason that would have jeopardized my credit rating with them. I decided to take advantage of a 6.9% balance transfers they mailed to me, it went...
First USA is the worst consumer company of any type I have ever dealt with. EVER. Their customer service has no consistency, many ignorant and rude representatives, and is totally disorganized. They will tell you to submit things in writing (and you...
Pros: None Cons: Illegal interest and late fees charged.
I had been a customer of Bank One/First USA Bank for 9 years with excellent credit. My wife was out of town (500 miles away, in another state) on business when Bank One called me regarding unusual credit card charges. I immediately contacted my wife and...
Pros: Nice incentive program for a no fee card Cons: Redemption never delivered in over 9 months
I have been a loyal First USA credit card holder since 1998. Until recently I felt the company was fair, and had great things to offer it's cardholders. This is a review of a cash-back program on the 'Titanium Card'.
Pros: Easy to get and a high credit limit Cons: Don't trust them
Shortly after receiving my First USA card, I was absolutely flooded with phone calls from telemarketers all with special offers to me through First USA. The frequency with which I received these calls was unbelievable. It took me a while to finally...
Pros: A great rate while it lasted Cons: too many to mention
I agree with all other thumbs down opinions about this credit card company. My husband and I were taken in by their low rates promises. After one late payment, by fault of the postal service not mine. My rates immediately went sky high. I called an...
Pros: BancOne is a profitable company, so if you're a shareholder you should be quite satisfied. Cons: Yes, "cons" sums it up nicely.
You'd think I'd be over this, but I'm not because, well, it's still haunting me. This is the typical FUSA story: Original card is at 4.9, magically switches to 12.9, we complain, they "fix" it by giving us a new account and card with a permanently low...
Pros: Interest rate, customer service, web site Cons: none, really
Never had a problem with them. I have had a First USA credit card for quite a few years.
I asked for an interest rate reduction by mail. 2 weeks later, they call and leave instructions to call them about reducing the interest rate.
...
Pros: None come to mind Cons: interest rate hikes, payments not applied, customer service = 0
My husband and I have very high credit scores. When we received an offer for a Platinum Visa featuring our college alma mater's logo and 2.9% interest rate, we thought "Okay, sounds good." That was our first mistake.
Pros: No annual fee Cons: Hidden charges, high APR
I can honestly say I don't understand why I still possess a FirstUSA creditcard after all this time. I first got a FirstUSA card about 3 or 4 years ago. I had just begun college and was eager to sign up for a couple creditcards. I didn't know much...
Pros: I have always found them easy to deal with, and with low interest rates Cons: I haven't seen any
I have had my FirstUSA card for more than two years now, and I was shocked when I looked up reviews of them, and found so many bad reviews! I love my FirstUSA card. In fact, I get offers from other card companies in the mail at least every other day,...
I honestly have to say that my experience with First USA hasn't been bad at all. I have had my card there for about a year now and I like it. First and foremost the interest is low. My interest rate is 9.9% and that is fixed. For the first 6 months...
Pros: None Cons: Inflexible, high interest rate, too many late fees
We've dealt with First USA for a couple of years now. In fact, we have two of their cards because they took over another credit card company we used. We've had nothing but problems. My biggest gripe with them is that there is no grace period. We all...
I am very disgusted with First USA. Before I applied for my card, I read a few sites like this where people would slam them - I thought sour grapes, it won't happen with me. Someone is always going to be mad at something. But I have learned these...
Pros: Inadvertently gives an education about violation of consumer rights Cons: FUSA plays close to but sometimes oversteps the fine line of what is illegal.
I had an account with First USA Bank (FUSA) for over 8 years, without any problems. I have a near perfect credit history and a good to very good PCS score on my TRW. In a nutshell on May 8th 2000 FUSA suspended my account for no reason. Three days pri ...
Pros: Convenience Cons: COLD AND UNFEELING COMPANY
First USA, has very little compassion for people in debt. Even if you have not missed or have never been late in making your payment to them. If your credit report, from a credit reporting agency is bad, for any reason, medical expense or...
Pros: no annual fee Cons: offer very misleading--check the fine print
If there are two certain things in life, its that credit card companies will continue to think of new hooks to get you to take their card, and they will continue to send you a ton of offers in the mail telling you about it. So it was with a recent offer...
Pros: Excellent customer service Cons: Not real motivated to come to you
I have been reading quite a few of the opinions about First USA credit cards. I must say, that I have not found too many pleasant ones. I basically believe that credit is the American way and why die with all of your bills paid off. I did not have an...
Pros: High Credit Lines Cons: High Interest Rates after the "Honeymoon" period
I have had a First USA visa for several years and have had consistently bad service from them. I was drawn in as a college student by a low interest rate and a high credit line. My rate has been repeatedly raised and was at one point up to 24%. It is...
I have had an account with 1st USA for a number of years with little drama. I must however relate a problem I had with their system which has prompted me to cancel my account there and register with e-pinions for the express purpose of...
This is a terrible corporation to do business with, and those of us unlucky enough to be customers of First USA through their endless acquisitions of other banks suffer greatly because of our status. To give you the short version of my troubles with them...
Pros: Accepted Everywhere like ever other card Cons: Not a chance of ever receiving a Refund
If you are using this credit card to protect yourself from fraud by a merchant, I would think again. A few years ago I was in Europe, and I bought an item and had the store send it back to the States for me. I figured I was safe from fraud since I...
I've read many negative opinions regarding the First Card VISA. Only 29% of Epinion writers recommend this product. I have to say I've had nothing but a positive experience with this company.
When I originally got my First USA card it was a regular visa ( My card says AOL visa but it's through First USA) Anyway when I first recieved it, it came with a nice low interest rate. Then about 6 months later the interest rate started to climb ( no...
Pros: None, you can find comparable Intro APRs at reputable businesses Cons: The worst
I've had cards with at least 7 banks in the past year, and so I've rated each of these against each other based on their introductory rate, standard rate, fees, and how customer oriented the bank is. I've been paying off a big chunk of debt that my wife...
Pros: Rewards, no annual fee Cons: Rewards that really aren't extraordinary, two cycle billing
The direct mailing shouted, "Extraordinary rewards and a great low rate-with no annual fee." That was all it took to suck me in. I told my wife to call and get this card (she was the one pre-approved, not me).
Pros: Can't think of any Cons: Customer Service is lousy and they will stick it to you at every opportunity.
They offer a good teaser, but there customer service is lousy. On one occasion they issued a balance transfer at 10 times the requested amount. Exceeding my credit line by thousands.
The mistake was simple and they could have easily...
Pros: You get what you ask for, Fair, good credit card Cons: Few Perks
I have had very good experiences with my First USA Mastercard. The interest rate is high (19.99% APR), but I never carry a balance, so it doesn't matter.
This was my first credit card and I have never had any problems with them.
Pros: None, go with CapitalOne which is .9% less Cons: 2 Cycle Balance, tries to mislead consumers
Recently I had an experience with a First USA Bank Credit card that made
me cancell all my credit cards with them. My problem was that I had 2 seperate accounts, 1 had a 2 cycle billing method and the other one had a Average Daily Balance including...
Pros: Low Introductory Rate Cons: Low Rate quickly jumps to a higher rate
The best way to describe First USA is as a mouse trap. They put an enticing piece of cheese out there to attract you to their introductory low interest rate then as soon as you bite into it, "snap", they've got you.
Pros: No redeeming qualities Cons: Appear to feel they are above the law
First the facts of the matter are that I, like many of you fell afoul of the escalating service charges which took a 300.00 balance to over 1,400.00. As I am a principled individual there was a point at which I felt this was unreasonable. In the long...
Pros: Easy Credit Cons: Rip you off any way they can
I've definitely had my share of credit cards over the past ten years. In that time I've had an account with First USA twice. Both times I was completely disatisfied.
The first time, about three years ago, was when they offered me a credit...
Pros: Easy to get Cons: extremely high interest rates and penalties
A few years ago I was offered a First USA credit card with a very high limit of credit. Being young at the time I was very excited to receive such an offer. They promised low interest rates at 2.9% and even gave me checks to write to other credit card...
I have reviewed my First USA statements from January 1998 to and including March 1999 and have found two instances that I was charged Late Fees. One in April 1998 and the other November 1998. No other late charges were...
Pros: Bills always arrive in a timely manner Cons: They are cheap b*stards
I have had my First USA card for about two years now. I've never really had a problem with them, however, something happened in September to make me change my mind...
I received an e-mail from a friend saying that if you called First USA they...
First USA has always given me the best price and no annual fee. As long as you pay your bills, even if you carry a balance, on time, you will have no problem and benefit from rates lower than any other bank. I also appreciate the fact that when I had a...
Pros: big company - won't go out of business Cons: fraudulent
I had a First USA visa for about a year and I just couldn't put up with them anymore. What can I say positive about them? They are a fast growing company. It seems every low interest card out there is owned by First USA bank, so check before you apply....
Pros: Credit card makes a good impromptu "tooth flosser" Cons: This company couldn't spell "Customer Service"
We originally got a First USA card because of its low interest rate. I had no major problems while we actively used it. Eventually, it was replaced by one that offered a lower APR. A year or so later I wrote them a letter to close the account. A year...
Pros: low rates, good service Cons: ridiculous rates on cash
I've had a titanium MasterCard from First USA for almost two years now and I haven't had any problems with it. The 6 month introductory rate was 6.99% and since then the standard rate has been 9.99%. Cash advances are available but the interest rate is...
Pros: low initial interest rate Cons: really bad customer service
My wife and I got a First USA credit card account because of the low interest rate they offered on balance transfers. What a mistake! Although the initial interest rate was as advertised, the customer service was unbelievably poor. Month after month,...
Pros: 24 hour customer service Cons: Hideous service provided 24 hours/day
I have held a First USA Visa for 8 years with no incident until last September when I went out of the country for three weeks and the friend who was supposed to mail my payment forgot. When I returned and my payment was three days late, I called to tell...
Pros: good promotions, lower rate Cons: rate for life means no such thing.
We carry many credit cards and choose to use this one. Lesser of all the evils I suppose. The more we use the card the higher line of credit they give us. We are now platinum and there does not seem to be a limit to how much they are willing to extend...
I signed up for a First USA card based on there claim of a low, fixed intro rate and then a low fixed permanent rate. My intro rate was only 3.99% thenn moving to a permanent FIXED rate of 9.99%. I couldn't pass this up. I couldn't believe this...
Pros: the initial interest rate Cons: bad interest rate, high fees, you become telemarketers dream
I have to agree with every single word you said! I get a constant stream of calls from companies wanting to give me any amount of things added to my credit card......Road side assistant plans, travelers plans, discount buying plans.......it just never...
Don't feel bad. I was one of those suckers. I was like everyone else. I was lured in by the low interest rate. 3.9% for the first six months and then a set rate of 12.9% for the life of the card. I thought cool. I could transfer a balance from the higher...
Pros: on-line statements and bill payment Cons: constant interest rate change
I got a first USA visa several years ago and still have it. However, they are constantly trying to raise my interest rate. My last statement reflected that they raised my interest rate from 15.9% to 21.95% - and I am never late on a payment.
Pros: Great Interest rate and company! Cons: A fee for transferring balances
I selected this card to begin with for the low interest rate they offered me and have stayed with them because of their great service. I have had this card for 3 years and have never once had a problem with this company.
I just recently...
I'm a bit embarrassed by how long it took me to notice what was going on, but I feel compelled to help spread the word of warning regarding this unethical, unscrupulous company.
The hook they (First USA) used to get me was an introductory...
Pros: great card member website, great customer service Cons: have not come across any yet
I noticed there were several opinions here on Epinions.com that were not so favorable for First USA credit cards. Let me tell you about my experiences, because they seem to different than some of the other people here. I originally had a card from the...
In late September 2000, my First USA credit card was fraudulently used for cash advances (about $1000) after almost a year of disuse. I was in Berkeley, while the cash advances took place in Los Angeles. I reported it to First USA once I got the...
People who work for credit card companies are probably decent people trying to make an honest living. In my opinion, First USA may have different hiring criteria for their "rate setters". I've heard over and over from people I know who had...
Pros: easy to obtain Cons: poor service, hidden fees, late statements
I received a pretty good deal through the mail for a First USA credit card. I decided to try it out and what a mistake that was! Let's just say there is not one good thing about this card except that it is easy to obtain. Constant phone calls with a...
Pros: fair method of computing interest, easy to apply, poor credit okay, $1000 credit limit for most folks Cons: interest rate could be better
I have had poor credit in the past, despite the fact that I didn't have any credit card history. I also knew that I could easily improve my credit history by getting a credit card and making good payments with it. The problem with that is that most...
Pros: good customer service Cons: have to watch the extra fees they will charge if not watching
I have had my First Usa charge card for a few years but until recently I really didn't use it, it was one of those cards you apply for but then put away in case of emergencies. My husband and I decided we needed a joint account and all I had to do was...
Pros: Payments can be made on internet Cons: website is rarely fully functional
I have two First USA cards, one Visa and one Mastercard. They have good APRs (9.9 fixed), but it's always a pain to get to their website and make a payment or view your statement. I visit their site maybe twice a month, and every time I'm there, I find...
Pros: 1 free mile on British Airways for every 1 dollar spent. Cons: 50$(65$ for platinum) annual fee.
Ridiculous charges 3% (10$ minimum) for cash advances.
This is a British Airways affinity card offered by First USA. There are only two positives for having this card, and both of which are only relevant if you fly overseas (or are planning to)on British Airways.
1. You get 1 frequent flier mile on...
Pros: No pros to this card. Cons: annual fee. refusal to lower rates. raise rates exorbitantly without cause.
This is one of the worst cards out there. It was the first credit card I ever got. It offered me a $500 balance when I opened it in College around 1996(?). I used the card responsibly. My credit limit was eventually raised to $2000. I ...
Pros: None. Cons: Charged for services not ordered; charged interest and late fees on top of that.
A few years ago, I closed my First USA visa credit card. A few months later, I received a bill with a $60 charge for an annual membership for a club I never joined ("Trailside Nature Club"). I called, spoke with a customer service representative who...
Pros: 1-800 number. Which is good since you will spend hours arguing about your statement. Cons: Rude customer service, lied to about my account, Poor communication, will not keep promises.
I have never been so upset with a credit card company before in my life. First USA is very hard to deal with. They lose things, they dont track your phone converstaions, they call you at work, they are rude, poor communication skills with their...
Pros: Nothing more than any other card can provide Cons: Horrifically bad customer service department
I filed a change of address about a year ago. Somehow, the update never got entered into their database. All sorts of excuses were given to me as to why this happened, culminating in having the blame shifted to me and the U.S.Post office. I did not...
Pros: There are no "pros" when dealing with First USA. Cons: This credit card company cannot deal honestly with their customers.
First USA as a credit card company seems to have a difficult time dealing honestly with their customers. We had been good customers of First USA for many years and made a decision a few years ago to close most of our credit card accounts. We had been and...
Pros: After being scammed by First USA VISA the customer relations division was quite helpful. Cons: A cold call from First USA representative offered up-grade of our current VISA card. Lie.
My wife received a cold call about six weeks ago. The caller said that they were offering an up-grade of our current VISA card. My wife agreed to the up-grade. We accepted the new cards on arrival, not noticing that this was a different company which...
Pros: besides being a high interest credit card I can not see any? Cons: fraud and illegal practices
I am outraged at the behavior and harassment perpetuated by the First USA bank and have contacted the Better Business Bureau, State Banking Authorities as well as Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Our family is also considering legal action.
My...
I have had First USA bank credit cards both personal and business. Well, they had offered the intro. rate of 2.9% on balance transfers and then a FIXED rate of 9.9%. The personal account was a Yahoo visa. I had used and paid on these accounts for...
Pros: you are ok as far as you pay everything on time-no delay!!! Cons: bad customer service, late fees........
As a cardholder since 1999, I had paid all the bills (full payment every time) on time never delay. Until recently, I found there was a "one day delay" late fee on my bill, which I paid through online banking. I called first USA. What I found is so...
I had an account with these people. I had a $1900.00 Balance. I decided to pay them off. The next month I got a statement with no payment being made, overdue fees, etc... I had my cancelled check that they cashed. I called them, they basically told...
Pros: It's a Credit Card Cons: Anything in the book
I had a FirstUSA and a FirstCard, when the two cards became one account, that's when all the horror began. Now I am being sued. The friendly CSR told me that my accounts would now be FirstUSA. So as I am paying and paying and paying and only receiving...
i know i might get sued for this but here goes.. i was one of those customer service reps you are all so upset with. the bank told us nothing til after it happened. we would find out about offers the day they were mailed out or when the person would call...
Pros: speed of customer service Cons: billing of fees
I have a FirstUSA Legg Mason card. First of all, I give First USA credit for establishing relationships with so many of companies. They are the best at marketing their products. I have not been a cardholder for that long a period (maybe less than 2...
I have had a First U.S.A. credit card for years and I love it. Usually I don't use it except for emergencies. They are nice but they can also get you into trouble.
We had 4 charge cards. But when my husband died, I closed all but my First U.S.A....
First USA is nothing but crooks. They gradually increased my interest rate, so I transferred my balance to another card. Apparently the whole balance was not transferred and a balance was still due.
Pros: It's Visa. The statement is clear. The web service is actually quite decent. Cons: Dreadful customer (dis)service
Expensive card, among the highest APRs
Arrogant company
It is the fees that got me upset. Not so much that the fees are hidden (they are not), but that you ...
Ridiculous policies. Several years ago, I paid off my entire balance over the phone, and the customer service rep told me that it would be a $5 fee. Fine, I said, and assumed that would be included in the money taken from my checking account.
Pros: None Cons: First USA is not honest with its customers!
Elsewhere in these pages I wrote about my distrust and lack of service received from First USA in regards to their Cash Rewards program. I have additionally experienced horrible service in regards to their recent APR changes.
Pros: none Cons: process payments late, CSR help sucks, constantly pull credit ratings from bureaus, a great teaser interest rate, then find some poor ass excuse to raie it, I'm sticking to my Credit Union!
First USA has got to be the worst credit card services. Their customer service operators are rude and have no knowledge of their company, only what they read on their screen. First USA is the sole credit card that is responsible for placing Bank One in...
Pros: Decent initial transfer rates. Cons: Terrible customer service, telemarketing at dinner, "lost" bills, mysterious double penalties.
We had a First USA VISA card through my brother-in-law's company, Edward D. Jones. EDJ is just a name, they had (to our knowledge) nothing to do with the card.
For the first few months all went well. We transferred a balance from another...
I had occasion to talk with a customer service person who alleged he was
"Jason" at the Austin call Center. He was a master of equivocation, and wanted me to believe that everyone above him in the Bank existed in PO Box in Wilmington...
I got what I thought at the time a greta deal. Transfer my credit card balances for a low 2.9% and the rate will go up to 9.9 after six months.. Well, needless to say I am at overe 25%!! I was late on one payment and the lateness was due to an error...
Pros: None Cons: WILL RAISE YOUR INTEREST RATES WITH NO WARNING !!!
Here's four words to avoid: FIRST USA BANK N.A.
I have had two credit cards serviced by First USA and the same experience. Thy often lure people with low interest rates like 9.9 %, which you think will be the permanent interest rate...wrong....
Pros: none Cons: poor service, high interest rates, unsolicited mail
these idiots charge too much interest as soon as they can; I had the card for a year & cancelled it; 5 years later, they still hang to my personal information & keep sending me offers to come back each week & haven't deleted my information inspite of...
Pros: no annual fee, freebies, accepted everywhere Cons: well, there _is_ an APR. But less than most.
First USA Visa is an awesome card!
1. No annual fee
2. I've gotten lots of freebies from them, including a wallet, flashlights, an emergency light, a handyman tool, and a travel toiletry case, plus 2 6 month magazine subscriptions....
Pros: None, didn't get that far Cons: Seems like a scam
First, let me say that I have excellent credit, consistently returning a credit score of 720 or above on my own accounts. I received a "guaranteed credit" letter in the mail, saying that I was eligible for 0% financing on my credit account. So I...
Pros: none Cons: ridiculous late fee amounts, not a competitive interest rate
This credit cards gets a huge THUMBS DOWN from me--I think in all my dealings with credit cards, this one is the next one up from the bottom--AT&T gets my all time "raspberries" in the credit card business--but that's another story in...
Pros: None that any other card doesn't offer Cons: Does more harm than good in resolving disputes
If you have this card I hope you never have a problem with a merchant. First they do not charge back the amount in dispute to the merchant, which means there is no incentive for the merchant to resolve the problem. Second if the problem is not resolved...
Pros: 9.9% fixed Cons: Hey, it's a CREDIT CARD!!!!!
I hate credit cards. They're the ultimate scam, especially for we "budgetarily challenged" people. But, no one made me get one. I got a 9.9% fixed First USA Visa. I try not to use it, and for the first time in my life, pay it off first, in...
Pros: None. Absolutely NONE. Cons: If their customer service reps don't like you, they hang up.
I am sooooo ticked off at First USA that I have threatened them with legal action, and even decided to start up a First USA web page so their abused customers could vent.
Can't tell you how happy I am to find epinion's page devoted to First...
I chose First USA because they offered an attractive teaser rate (3%), an attractive ongoing rate (10%), and no annual fees. It appeared to be an excellent "no-frills" credit card, which is what I was looking for.
I was offered a First USA visa card over two years ago. I took it as a backup card, just for emergency purpose, in case of my other credit cards expired or lost.
However, in a span of less than one year after I used the card for subscribing a...
Pros: some cards have good rates, but watch out for increases without warning Cons: The WORST customer service of any company I have ever dealt with
I have more than my share of credit cards and a good number of them are from First USA. It's hard to avoid them, because they have bought other cards or merged with them. For example, Wingspan is now owned by First USA. Some of their cards have no...
Pros: none Cons: Confiscatory interest and penalty rates!
Well, they are in business to make money. Lots of money!
Don't you wish you could get 18 to 25 percent on your savings?
Don't you wish you could charge them $25.00 if your monthly statement
doesn't arrive on time for you to send in a...
Pros: high limits
unique card benefits Cons: deceptive
bad customer support
late statements
I *had* my card for quite a few years, and I used an online service to pay my bills every month. Anyways, my due date is the 27th of the month. One month I made 3 payments, one on the 14th, one on the 20th, and then one on the 7th of the next month. Well, the next month I just needed to make one small payment to bring my balance to zero, so I made a payment on the 5th of the month. Guess what? I got charged a late fee! Even though the time between payments was less than 28 days, First USA's policy is that any payment received after the due date but before the statement closing date (in my case the 7th of the month) gets applied to the previous month, so my early payment on the 5th got applied to the previous month's statement even though I had already made 2 other payments that month! So there are ~12 days after your due date that you can't make an early payment in... Capital One doesn't do this. I switched
