Pros: Many locations throughout US and worldwide. Cons: Misleading practices of bank representatives.
Why would one want a banker that lies to a customer's face in order to open a "better" account that will incure monthly service charges, while it was promised to be free? It happened in my case. They also had an on-going promotion for 10,000 bonus TY ...

Pros: Don't remember, but something must have influenced my decision to use Citi. Cons: See above.
I wanted to close my account a year ago when taking out funds for a house purchase. The representative convinced me to leave it open (a mistake) in case I needed to use the account in the future. No mention was made of the minimum balance ...

Pros: Good online banking system. Allows you to see clearly all the sneaky fees they impose. Cons: High, poorly disclosed fees, poor treatment of customers, lack of professionalism at local branches
Anyone who peruses complaint blogs will notice the hue and cry over the new (Nov 2008) $10 Fee Citibank charges every time one's account dips into Checking Plus. The whole point of Checking Plus is to eliminate the worry about overdrawing an ...

Pros: THe customer service reps were all very nice people Cons: The reps just couldn't/wouldn't do what I requested.
I too had a negative experience with the customer service department (letters from "S. Larson" and six reps) over the course of almost three months. All I wanted was a letter verifying what they told me over the ...

Pros: So huge they won't be going kaput soon (unfortunately) Cons: You name it, it was bad or worse.
The worst service ever. Our old local bank was taken over by Citibank years ago and we thought why not stay with them and give them a shot? They had our savings, checking, and several investment and retirement accounts. Our life savings. Plus a ...

Pros: Low HELOC rate Cons: Deceptive, possibly illegal, definitely shady business practices. Phone customer service staff barely speak English.
We got a HELOC from Citibank last year. Here is the letter I wrote the branch credit manager after several months: November 11, 2007 To Whom It May Concern: We are writing this letter to formally complain about the deceptive behavior of one of ...

Pros: Not one. Cons: Citibank in not a loyal business. Customer service fraudulent with information to close my case.
I ordered Christmas baskets for my clients this year. The vendor shipped the baskets from California direct my clients. They wrote the wrong company name in the "Sent by:" box. None of my clients knew their basket was from my company. The basket vendor ...

Pros: Established Name Cons: Poor Customer Service; Inaudible Phone Operators
I've never received such poor service from a bank before now. I recently applied for a savings account at citibank online thinking it will be an easy and time-efficient way to do it. I was wrong. I was sent a letter telling me that they need some ...

Pros: Great online banking web site, excellent assortment of financial products that are well integrated. Cons: Citibank Gold has excellent telephone customer service. Other accounts may be spotty.
There's no doubt that Citigroup has lost much of its luster recently, due to its poor investments in the subprime market. However, its two main consumer branches, Citibank and Smith Barney brokerage are continuing to provide excellent service and ...

Pros: Internet banking is efficient and easy to use Cons: Not a Lot of locations South of NY
I have used Citbank as my main bank for years, ever since before I started college. I chose this bank, to be completely honest, because it was the bank that my father used and since he went there regularly, he was able to make deposits for me. However, ...

Pros: Wide range of services Cons: Interest rates a little behind other banks
I was a Cal Fed ( California Federal Bank ) customer going back to the early 1990's; in March 2003 it was absorbed into Citibank. My current accounts are a money market fund ( with checking ), a standard checking account with interest, and some CDs. ...

Pros: Great promotional rates, no hassle, excellent website, great rewards Cons: Only that I had used other banks before Citibank
After almost 2 years, 2 checking accounts, and 2 savings accounts, I can honestly say I have been completely satisfied with Citibank. How I Became a Customer At the time I opened my current accounts, I was fed up with banks. My previous ...

Pros: No Annual Fee
Cash back on purchases Cons: Poor customer service
10-minutes of sales pitches everytime you call
Citi does not stand up for their customers! I purchased several light fixtures online for our kitchen renovation project at a cost of $300. When the box arrived, the lights inside were bent, broken and unusable. Because the shipping container had ...

Pros: I didn't have time to taste any pro. Cons: Arrogance, bad service, lots of paperwork
I didn't have time to know Citibank, I decided to cancel my account even before they proceeded to fully activate it. After opening both a checking and a savings account with good hopes about it (the reason was their 4.5% interest in the savings), I had ...
