My new hero

by Ready2bmom Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jun 21 '00
Pros: Online banking, convenient locations
Cons: None
Yes, I have a new hero. Never thought I would find one at such an unlikely place. But, thankfully, I did.

Before my ex-husband left, he was in charge of the banking. Very big mistake. He told me which checks to write and I wrote them and...

What would you expect from a bank whose initials are F. U.?

by basilisk4 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Nov 16 '00
Pros: None
Cons: Rude and stupid employees
It's been a while since I've had anything to do with First Union Bank. To be specific, I think I closed my account with them when I was sixteen years old, which would make it at least five years ago. Even so, I don't see any reason to assume that...

Great bank, for the right person

by control-cancel , Oct 14 '00
Pros: Great online banking, good service
Cons: Many fees, depending on how you use it
I switched to First Union because the bank I was with previously didn't offer enough online banking features. I now have an Express Checking account, a savings account, and a credit card with First Union, and I'm extremely happy with them.

Pay Per Play - How to Bank at First Union

by grahamp , Aug 04 '00
Pros: convenience, good online banking, professional staff
Cons: fees
I bank at First Union because it is the most convenient bank in my area. In downtown Washington, DC you can't walk more than 4 blocks without getting to another FUNB branch or ATM. That being the case, I would recommend not banking with First Union if it...

I'M ASHAMED TO SAY I USED TO WORK THERE!!

by skippycat , Apr 18 '00
Pros: What Pros?!
Cons: Where do I start?!
Yes, I did, I worked there for about 2 years...please don't lynch me!! I am located in the northeast section of the US and you can't turn a corner here without seeing a F.U. I ended up there because I was laid off from another bank. The one thing I can...

A big bank with an equally big heart

by phantasman , Sep 26 '02
Pros: National bank - recently merged with Wachovia.
Cons: Fees can be pricey if you don't do your research.
I've been a customer of First Union for several years now. I only came to First Union because (at that time...1996) they were the only bank with local branches that worked with Quicken. I actually loved my hometown bank but, was keen on utilizing (a...

Better off with your money in your sock drawer

by Bayzers , Jan 07 '00
Pros: One of the Largest Banks around
Cons: Money and time waster
I have had a lot of experience with different banks, and I have to say that First Union is the worst bank around!

We first opened the account with First Union because my husbands employer had an account with them so they offered all of the...

Save Your Nickels and Dimes

by Carey-ann , Jul 24 '00
Pros: Friendly tellers/customer service reps
Cons: Too many fees/service charges
I signed up for my first checking account around the age of 16 with Dominion Bank. Well, a few short years later, First Union came along and bought them out. I've had battles with them ever since.

I have one major complaint with them. I...

First Union, Where the Customer is Last

by cryan , Jul 14 '00
Pros: Helpful branch locator, but not much else.
Cons: Unreasonable fees and high minimum balance requirements.
First Union has the worst customer service of any bank I've patronized. However, they are improving. When I first wrote this article several months ago, I was infuriated by the unreasonable fee structure and large minimum balance requirements that...

A1 in my book, if you take out the fees...

by mitsuman , Mar 18 '03
Pros: Great customer service and products.
Cons: Guess what? That's right, the fees.
All right, where do I start?

Ok, this is my first time at Epinions, and I must say I like the concept.

I have had an Express Checking Account with First Union since August of 2002, and I am satisfied.

Why did I choose...

First Union is First Rate....

by GaGirl40 , May 28 '00
Pros: Friendly service, many branches, on-line banking
Cons: none that I have found yet...
I am 40 years old and have been dealing with banks since I was 16. My first banking experience was much like a lot of peoples in that I thought since I had checks, I had money. I soon got into a lot of trouble for this belief. Checks were bouncing left...

Good website, lousy in-person service

by dtobias Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jun 25 '00
Pros: Has a very useful Web site that lets you see all your transactions and balances
Cons: Is hard to deal with when you need real human service, and tends to screw up check orders.
I opened an account at First Union when I moved to southern Florida a few months ago, because it had a branch right near where I work, and also it's the bank my paychecks are issued from, so I figured they'd clear faster if my account was there too.

Bank Elsewhere

by emilou , Sep 02 '01
Pros: conveniently located, friendly personnel
Cons: policy change on fees, impersonality at management level
It is with a heavy heart that I must write a rather negative opinion of First Union, as we started out together so well. When I first moved to this area, First Union seemed to be more in evidence than any other bank around, so I decided to open an...

Just average

by slimtae , Jun 21 '01
Pros: Ubiquitous branches
Cons: Fees up the wazoo, unreliable online bill payment
For the past 15 years, I've been with 6 different banks, First Union being my current banking institution. My financial situation is more complicated than it was 15 years ago when I opened my first account as a college student, but in the grand scheme...

Last Confederate Bank?

by jdmcs , Apr 20 '00
Pros: friendly service reps, monthly statement easy to use
Cons: High service fees, very slow web site, bank seems to charge for everything
The only reason I have stayed with 'Last Confederate'... I mean First Union National Bank (FUNB) is that one of their bank branches is within 4 blocks of my house, and I don't have a car.

FUNB does have very friendly service representatives....
