Pros: Friendly tellers, free checking Cons: Watch where your money goes

Pros: Good service, error-free banking Cons: I have no real complaints
A byproduct of a good economy is the conglomeration of smaller corporations into larger ones. As revenues increase, companies look to expand and bring in even more revenue.

U.S. Bank: 10 years experience with The bank from hell
by search4quality ,Jun 26 '09
Pros: Absolutely NO PROs whatsoever! Cons: Creative, unauthorizeed, improperly notated debits. Lacks integrity, not credible, worst bank experience in 51 years.
Number of years as US Bank customer: 10 Worst branches: 94044, Pacifica, CA and Castro, SF, CA
Words that best describe this instiution and it's employees: Malfeasance, un-authorized debits, un-cooperative, un-trustworthy, non-accountability, deceptive, un-professional. Fees, fees and more Fees (all non-disclosed and unexpected) $115 of fees in one day!
Claimed that no maintenance fees would be assesed then proceeded to debit savings account $15/month "mainteainence" on an account with tens of thousands in continuous montly balnce.
Run! don't walk as fast as you can from US Bank. They took over my local institution, fired great local people who worked there, then replaced them with imported employees who know nothing about banking nor would these replacements be able to hold jobs as retail clerks.

The worst banking/loan experience
by nikibleu ,Dec 12 '03
Pros: Open late on the 800 number Cons: Rude service providers, slow with all banking transactions, lied over the phone. Unwilling to help.
If you are deciding to go with this bank for banking services: DON'T. If you are thinking about taking out the loan with U.S bank: DON'T.
Banking hours: This bank has very inconvenient banking hours. Rude service people. This is my in-laws opinion as well who had to take care some of my banking needs as a power of attorney.
Loan: Paid off loan via cashiers check. Took over three weeks to receive the title. Very unhelpful service providers. Totally lost my payment and charged me a late fee and later reimbursed me the money due to their mistake but it took over 1 month of phone calls.
I would not ever give this banking institution my banking needs. I recommend that you stay away from this bank as well. Do your research.

Nickel and Dimed to Death!
by bwbenz ,Feb 27 '05
Pros: Convenient, sure Cons: Expensive and sneaky!
Only my last nickel was $422.55. Oh ya, they charge a 3% "conversion fee" for oversees transactions. No, VISA doesn't get the money. According to a US Bank Card Member Services representative they now keep the whole 3% themselves. MBNA, as an example, charges NONE. So watch what you charge overseas. And if that isn't bad enough, don't return anything because ANOTHER 3% will be charged for that transaction, too! Wow! 6% for.... nothing.
That all followed the 'normal' $15 here and $25 there in apparent fees (and no, I wasn't under my minimum or overdrafted). I knew about the $1.25 monthly + $18 annual for the credit cards, but the surprises are killing me. Every other month there's one extra fee or another. Enough already!

U.S. Bank blows
by sss128s ,Mar 04 '08
Pros: Nothing about U.S. Bank is commendable. Cons: Sign any papers, contracts or loans at your own peril.
U.S. Bank is one of the worst companies I have ever had dealings with. A request to change a payment date by four days required a double payment, hidden charges within contracts and inflexible management when trying to negotiate. Avoid this bank and its shady dealings. U.S. Bank still identifies customers by their full Social Security number, leading to increased potential for identity theft.

Where Did My Balance Go
by sheloohoo ,Jul 19 '06
Pros: NONE Cons: Free Checking but more than enough transactions fees - HIDDEN FEES
Watch for the blue hyperlink in you balance column. If it shows you have balance issues in you acct. If you have $7 in your account and spend $6 beware there may be funds held against the balance (they hold VISA charges for up to 3 days with no consistency) giving your account a negative balance. So when you see your statement any auto payment or VISA transaction that appears to have been paid on a particular date is erroneous. US Bank has already pulled the funds from your acct. and held them. Then when the bank deems it appropriate (but after you have incurred and incredible amount in fees) they pay your transactions and then release your funds - which will ensure the bank even more money in fees. But that is not all - don't have time for the rest. Just Trust Me! This is the worst bank I have ever dealt with and DO NOT SET-UP AUTO PAYS YOU WILL REGRET IT!

US Bank: We offer the worst interest rate!
by fairopinions ,Mar 07 '09
Pros: Are there any? Let see...
Free online banking. (but that's standard everywhere) Cons: Extremely Low Interest https://fastapp.usbank.com/fastapp/FastAppRouter
Hidden Fees
Bad Customer Service
US Bank pays close to nothing on their saving's account. It's not because the interest rate is extremely low right now. It's beacause they offer the worst interest rate ever, at 0.10% for their standard saving's account. Then they can loan your money out to someone else at a much higher rate (6% or more).
Interest Rate at US Bank https://fastapp.usbank.com/fastapp/FastAppRouter
There is a daily minimum requirement of $300 for their saving account. They will charge you $5 maintenance fee for having less than $300. Bottom line, you have to pay US Bank for holding your money.
If you want get a reasonable interest rate. I suggest the following banks.
FNBO Direct offers 2.40% APY/no fees HSBC Direct offers 2.25% APY/no fees E*Trade Bank offers 1.95% APY/no fees ING Direct offers 1.65% APY/no fees

Unethical, unprofessional and unfriendly
by kyupi ,Nov 18 '04
Pros: There is one nice person in one branch somewhere in Nebraska, I believe. Cons: Refusal and failure to uphold their own guarantee of service and ethical standards.
Avoid US Bank at all costs. My experience with them included a bank error that cost me $1200.00 and which they refused to correct even after my accountant pinpointed it. I have also been personally harassed and attacked by a US Bank employee. No other business in any other category has ever been more horrible to me and my family.

Grossly Incompetent
by srvvloffittest ,Sep 30 '09
Pros: no comment Cons: no comment
US Bank does not have quality indicators in place for checking validity of SS#'s. Utah branch allowed an individual to open checking account using fraudulent SS#. Benefit of doubt says perhaps numbers were transposed. But regardless, they have nothing in place to confirm accuracy post acct. setup. Female customer used my husband's SS# to open account several months ago. We have never done business with US Bank and were surprised when we could not open a Bank of America account due to my husband's SS# having an "account abuse" flag on it. (BTW - B of A is equally incompetent). After hours of personal time spent investigating, including several phone calls with minimum 40 minute hold times, faxed and mailed documents, notarized signatures, etc., our problem is still not resolved. We are considering legal action. Advice is welcome. My advice to others...stick with credit unions.

Home Equity Loans or Lines

Pros: Fast closing, NO CLOSING COSTS! Cons: None
Over the last 2 years I have worked with Boyd Gudahl in the sales office in St. Paul Mn. I opened up a home equity loan and also a line of credit. Boyd was the best to work with. Everything was explained simply and he really took care of me. In a time when home values are dropping and Banks are not lending, US Bank really came through and Boyd was great to work with and the loan was closed in one week. Excellent! USBank does not protect against fraud
by exusbanker ,Sep 27 '08
Pros: rewards program for visa card was nice, but everyone has something like it Cons: if your card is stolen, be prepared to fight the bank instead of the thief
My credit card number was stolen and USBank has decided to honor all the charges made to my account, but they did give me a $10 refund as a courtesy. The signatures do not match and I have a police report and a witness, but it doesn't matter. They will not protect you against fraudulent charges made to you account. I was a customer since 2000.

Not that good
by matt48 ,Oct 17 '08
Pros: convenient locations, longer hours Cons: too many hidden fees, poor customer service
Opened a "free" checking account after moving cross country. I've been a customer for 6 months now and can say I'm not impressed. Who charges a .25 fee for each debit use, when it's supposed to be free? Yeah, .25 cents isn't much, but it adds up over time. I also don't like the waiting time to access money after a deposit. I had to wait 10 business days to access my own money. That's rediculous. Needless to say, I will not be a customer for long. I wish Wells Fargo would move further east. In 7 years with WF, I've never had near the trouble I've experienced with US Bank in just 6 months.
My advice would be to keep looking. I think I'll try a hometown local bank next time.

Pros: None Cons: Too many rules, High fees, Poor service.
I was a Downey Savings account holder until Us Banks bought Downey savings. I loved Downey Savings especially their fees, they were reasonable! Us bank charges for anything and everything. I feel taken advantage of and in this critical time where money is very valuble they seem to justity that over drawing by .80 cents I should get a 37.50 charge. Very sad that they should make money off their customers this way.

Overdraft Fees with no Overdraft! PREDATORY
by hilarebel ,Sep 18 '07
Pros: They have lots of branches Cons: all those branches practice predatory banking.
I overdrafted my account by going $7 over in one transaction. I expected the $36 charge. But US bank charged me 4 overdraft fees including fees for transactions that occurred before there was an overdraft, then they charged me more fees for the overdraft that THEY CAUSED by charging me fees for transactions that there were available funds for!
Because I made a $7 overdraft they say I now owe them over $300 in fees. The manager of the bank was agitated when he spoke to me and did not listen to what I had to say. He told me that they charged the fees before there was a negative balance because they "knew my account was going to be overdrawn ahead of time since I had pending transactions."
US Bank is practices predatory banking.

This bank should FAIL. They are THE WORST Bank Ever
by gldupper ,Jan 13 '09
Pros: lots of branch's Cons: absolutely nothing. AVOID THESE LOOSERS AT ALL COST.
Don't waste your time trying to do business with this bank. They do not want your business or care about their customers. At first I thought it was me and I was just having a bad experience with a branch office, but after having to deal with 5 of their branch offices their incompetency is institutionalized. I won't go into a long winded diatribe about every thing they did wrong when I opened a small business checking account, but needless to say I have decided to take my business elsewhere -- my local credit union -- who treats me and my company with respect.

Daily $7 Overdraft Charge
by nabi93 ,Mar 04 '05
Pros: Average at best Cons: Horrific
US Bank, recently started, without informing its customers, a daily $7 overdraft charge, which is even deducted from your balance over the weekend when the bank is closed for business. That makes it hard to catch up and pay off to a zero balance, especially if you are conducting online banking only and don't live any where near one of its few locations. But of course, this is exactly what they wish to do so that they can receive easy money for little of no work at all. Don't let them get away with it, don't put your hard earned money in there bank in the first place. Learn from my experience!
