Pros: Variety of options/charges Cons: First Union merger has ruined the small bank qualities.
Updated 9/30/01 - update section at the end of this review.
For years I've banked with one of the largest banks in the country while friends banked with Wachovia.
"They don't have the stability of the big banks" I...

Pros: Convenience Cons: Poor customer service, unnecessary fees
The history of what is now called Wachovia Bank is replete with so many mergers and takeovers that determining which was what when is extremely difficult. What many people do not remember is that the corporate behemoth First Union swallowed up Wachovia ...

Pros: great college account program, friendly customer service Cons: certain fees that can be unnecessary
What can I say about Wachovia other than that I completely love this bank. I have read many complaints about this company, and while I can definitely see what other might have problems with, they do not apply in my case. Let me set the stage for you and...

Pros: Stable On-line Banking Cons: Drain you for every penny they can legally justify, very unethical.
I moved from Florida to North Carolina late last year. I had been a dissatisfied account holder at B ...

Pros: ATM's everywhere Wells Fargo ATMS, Good online services, Good hours, Actually Free Cons: Transactions after 2PM handled next bus. day, Dated web site, No Wells Fargo Integration
Wachovia was once the 4th largest bank in the United States, and one of the Charlotte powerhouses. Today it exists as a subsidiary of Wells Fargo holding time until the merger integration is complete. Wachovia was known in much of the south as a bank ...

Pros: Branches in most major cities and towns. Cons: Fees. Robotic staff. Telephone customer service is worthless.
My family has been dealing with Wachovia and Central Fidelity before them since before I was born. I remember going into the bank as a child as my parents sat down to do business, and the gentleman or lady behind the desk always had a lollipop ...

Pros: none. Cons: poor service, hidden fees, unprofessional, inconsistent
I recently moved from New Jersey to Atlanta, GA and with this move came many changes. One huge change I had to make was who I banked with. Previously I banked with Sovereign Bank, but quickly learned that there was no such thing in the south. Not...

Pros: Great personnel; easy to deal with Cons: Not enough locations
Over a year ago I made a significant move. Amongst all the other changes, switching banks was not the least of my worries. Since I had a history with my bank spanning some 15 years for various accounts, loans and credit, I hated the thought of starting...

Pros: Lack of humans Cons: fees, fees, fees, and did I mention fees?
I joined the Wachovia banking system long long ago, after spending my virginal banking experience on a little known entity once called NCNB. I, like many who join the Wachovia family, was a college student. And the world was a beautiful place. I never...

Pros: It's really free. Full-featured website, decent phone service, and the occasional nice surprise. Cons: Can't see a teller, unreasonable foreign ATM charges and the occasional not-so-nice surprise.
I was so unhappy when First Union took over Wachovia and stole their brand name (thanks fuzzyfree!) that I refused to trade in my raggedy old teal-green Visa check card until they threatened to cancel it altogether. They have since acquired SouthTrust, ...

Pros: Convenient ATMs Cons: Horrible Customer Service
I opened my first Wachovia account(checking with line of credit) in August of 1992, and in 93 applied for and received a Wachovia Visa credit card($500 limit). After 4 years of being a customer, I was fairly content with Wachovia as a bank. ATM's were...

Pros: They never lost my money. Cons: Fees, no interest, not interested in me.
Update: 4/19/2001
Wachovia's been bought by First Union, but the combined bank will use the Wachovia name. Who knows what evil lurks as the two largest competing banks in the Southeast merge the structure of one into the branding of the...

Pros: Lots of ATMs all over the southeast Cons: Plenty
Wachovia is just another bank that is too big to care about individuals. While they gobble small town banks to be "your neighbor" they grow larger and really don't suit the individual checking account holders at all.
My problems...

Pros: It's so hard to think of any ... the Visa debit card is nice. Cons: Fees, fees, fees, fees, limited availability of cash machines in my area
My husband & I moved from Chicago to South Carolina last year so needless to say we needed to find a new bank.
We looked around & chose Wachovia, mostly because they had ATM machines in the Piggly Wiggly, where we thought we would be...

Pros: Many ATM's Cons: none
I have been using Wachovia for the past 1.5 years and really like it. When I went in to sign up for an account, there was someone there to go over which types of accounts they have, and helped me select the one that was most appropriate for me. They...
