Good Broker for Novice Investors

by Bryan_Carey Bryan_Carey is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Personal Finance, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Jan 06 '05
Pros: Low commission charges; Low minimum startup
Cons: Few user tools; Limited investment options; Very basic
Stock market trading has lost some of its appeal in the past few years since George W. Bush took over the presidency. The dot com bubble burst at the seams in 2001 and the U.S. economy has been sluggish. Stock market indices have all fallen and many ...

A Fascinating Concept--But It's Not Good for Everyone

by frazzledspice frazzledspice is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Personal Finance, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Apr 21 '00
Pros: A great way to teach kids about investing firsthand
Cons: Small investors are better off diversifying their holdings
The concept sounds perfect for the small investor--on the surface. Where else can people open an online brokerage account with only $20, purchase their choice of over 1,400 publicly traded stocks for only $2.99 a trade, buy fractional shares of stock,...

BuyAndHold Can Be A Winning Strategy

by PeterLRuden Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 03 '01
Pros: Knowledgeable investors can build a diversified portfolio through dollar-cost averaging; low minimum investments.
Cons: Research tools leave something to be desired; mutual funds offer better diversification for novices.
Over the years I have learned a few things about investing by virtue of being naturally curious and a voracious reader, but I am not an investing professional. Thus gentle readers, please take Pete's advice here with the number of grains of salt that you...

BUYandHOLD.com - For The Little Guys!

by rpllingrock Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, May 31 '00
Pros: Easy to navigate
Cons: Research Tools
For us little guys, we can now buy some of the biggest name stocks, owning as little as a partial share in any one of the listed companies.

First of all, my main investments have been through Mutual Funds and not direct purchases of...

BUYandHOLD, Sharebuilder, FolioFN, Mutual Fund???

by johnlouisiana , Jan 12 '04
Pros: Discount broker, Dollar-based investing, ETFs, Bonds, Money Markets
Cons: Only cost-effective if you are investing at least $349.50 or more each month
I have held an account with BUYandHOLD since May 2001, and I have since recommended to my brother, who now also has a BUYandHOLD account. BUYandHOLD Officially launched in November of 1999 as a privately held retail brokerage, BUYandHOLD ...

For the small investor....

by greenspj , Jul 10 '00
Pros: Price, Customer Service
Cons: Trades processed only at 10 am and 2 pm
Intro

Now, I don't have a ton of cash to invest. To me, it's not worth 9.99 and up per trade for the amounts I have to invest at one time. This online broker is perfect for the person who has from $20 to $300 to invest at any one...

Vast Untapped Potential

by scientist232 , Sep 23 '00
Pros: Rock bottom commissions, simple and intuitive process, good beginning for investors with limited start-up funds
Cons: It won't suit you if you have a significant level of investing savvy and want a lot of options
It’s more significant to the national economy than the strategic oil reserve. It could represent hundreds of millions of dollars in retirement security for thousands of people. It is the properly employed ability of the American people to save and...

Invest in YOUR future

by jtlipps , Oct 11 '00
Pros: Low commissions, Easy to invest, automatic deposits
Cons: Lack of research tools, site not the easiest to navigate
There are a number of reviews on the site about BuyandHold.com so the information that I will be going over here will not be earth shattering by any stretch of the imagination. What is important (at least to me) is the exposure of this information to as...

Go elsewhere

by itsyourf8 , Sep 07 '00
Pros: Seems cheap on the surface
Cons: Only accepts market orders
On the surface, three dollar commissions seem very attractive, but new inexperienced investors are being taken advantage of, and here is why.

First of all, the firm does not accept limit orders, only market orders. Anyone with any trading...

All you need is $20

by ktambascio , Jul 25 '00
Pros: Low fees, 24-hour access, 1000's of companies
Cons: Only trade twice a day, your favorite company might not be included.
Buyandhold.com is one of the newer online brokerage firms and is a good alternative to the main brokerage firms like Ameritrade and E*Trade.

Before I begin, please note that I am NOT a professional analyst or investor. Any losses or gains...

Great idea but depends on your needs.

by mattyork28 , Jun 05 '00
Pros: Cheap commissions, low minimums
Cons: No real time purchases
For the past decade, the United States has seen the stock market climb at an endless pace. Both the DJIA and NASDAQ has climbed to highest no one could have dreamed about. If you had a lot of money to invest in this great bull market, then you have...

by TayPay , Dec 21 '01
Pros: Easy, low minimum trades, dollar-based trading, unlimited trading for a fixed price.
Cons: Market orders only. Only 3 trades per day.
Ok. So the title of this epinion is a little bold. At least it got your attention. Maybe it should read "tap the potential of getting rich in the stock market with BuyAndHold".

Not For Demanding Investors

by CultureShock , Jan 27 '01
Pros: cheap trades
Cons: no limit orders, orders bunched and executed only twice a day, horrible research tools
I guess I’ve just labeled myself as not being a demanding investor because I do use BuyandHold.com as my on-line discount brokerage. Does this statement ultimately say anything positive about my investment strategy? I hope so.

I am not out...

BuyandHold.com - Great for the LongTerm

by webdad3 , Sep 17 '01
Pros: Small investment of only 20$ per trade, easy to use web site and very secure.
Cons: Went to a subscription model of 8$ a month. Whether you use it or not!
I'm not here to give financial advice. I found BuyandHold through a magazine ad. Just like the other reviews have said. It allows people to get started in the Stock Market. About a year ago, all I had was my 401k. Now I am well on my way to building...

The Tight Budget Beginners Friend

by caithnessfan Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 25 '00
Pros: Low start up investment, low minimum buys, low fees, easy set up/registration
Cons: Only 2 trades a day
I started to invest on line and on my own about 9 months ago and Buy and Hold.com is GREAT for me.
I have wanted to start investing on my own for quite a while but could never afford the initial deposit amounts that most of the other on line...
