Pros: Edward Jones hires polished sales people.
Cons: They are after all, just sales people. They don't have your interests at heart.

Summary: Below is an accounting of my recent experience with Edward Jones, when I transferred a small IRA into their "safekeeping". Big mistake. The terms of their retirement accounts aren't at all suited for small accounts, such as mine. Details ... read more

Pros: Because of their inneptness, I was spurred on to handling my investments. Doing nicely now!!!!
Cons: The 2 brokers were not knowledgable with investing. More like salesmen.

Summary: Haste makes waste. BOA took over ML right around the crash, and then there was the walkout of brokers to the Swiss bank. My ML broker was suddenly swamped. I felt he no longer had time for me. At a friend's suggestion, I jumped and moved the account to ... read more

    High Advisor turnover
    Inexperienced Advisors
    No Fiduciary Protections

Summary: In 2004, the Carey review was spot on! Indeed, this remained true through the first part of the so-called "Great Recession". One of the reasons Edward D Jones & Co was so strong was it had a great competitor in AG Edwards. In business, having a solid ... read more

  • Face to Face ripoff

    Apr 15, 2012 by
    Not yet rated.
Pros: Investors with no clue could do worse by being their own worst enemy.
Cons: Outrageous and deceptive fees. Sales people act in their best interest, not their clients.

Summary: Edward Jones builds up this myth that they're your friendly, neighborhood, face-to-face, stop-in-for-coffee "financial advisor". That's all just a front to make you feel good about the fact that they're skimming 2% - 3% a year off your retirement assets, ... read more

Pros: Our advisor will take an hour, discuss our concerns and give us options.
Cons: There are so many new advisors and some just don't understand the business.

    May 3, 2011 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Numerous neighborhood office locations.  Even "small" investors are treated respectfully. Accounts are processed reliably, professionally.
Cons: Not every advisor gives consistently trustworthy advice. Loads/expenses can subdue net returns. $40-per-year "IRA fee."

Summary: About eleven years ago I opened my very first brokerage account—at Fidelity Investments, which, as you likely know, is a long-established, highly reputable company. Nevertheless, Fidelity’s phone representatives irritated me on two or ... read more

Pros: NONE. There is nothing good to say about this company
Cons: Outrageous fees; not real investment advice; bad business overall

Summary: How anybody can give this company a positive review is beyond me. This is one of the worst companies I've ever dealt with, and I've been extraordinarily patient with them. I've been a client for 6 years now (that's about to change). In a 4-year time ... read more

  • Safe Choice and a Good One Unless You're Knowledgeable

    Mar 13, 2010 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Great for bonds.  Won't take advantage of you.
Cons: You can easily do better if stock mutual funds are your primary interest.

Summary: I've had my own Edward Jones account for 20 years and more importantly have seen portfolios (largely bonds) put together for my mother in-law and aunt over a 40 year time frame. All have had different representatives.  Bottomline: I trust Edward ... read more

EJ does not sell proprietary products.
Cons: Commission based (but fee-based is expensive)
Newer FA's with EJ can be somewhat inexperienced.

Summary: In the interest of full disclosure, I am an Edward Jones FA. That being said, it frustrates me to read negative reviews which often times are based on one of two things: Poor communications (often the FA's fault) or a misunderstanding of the product ... read more

Pros: Those local neighborhood reps are sure friendly with one hand in your wallet.
Cons: Follow the money and those marketing and sales fees.

Summary: This company is one of the biggest ripoffs in the financial industry doing it the old fashioned way with local friendly reps in large offices that you pay for.  High commissions, high 12B1 fees, high fund costs but ain't those local reps ... read more
