Pros: Cheap prices, at first Cons: Incompetent customer service, incorrect billing.
The Start
I bought a new Oldsmobile Alero last summer (June 2000). So, of course, I needed auto insurance. But, I also wanted a good deal. So, I called up every auto insurance company in the phone book and asked for a price quote. Among...

Pros: Good customer service (After you wait on hold for a long time) Cons: If you switch to another company they report you to the DMV
Uninformed sales staff
As a single 25 year old male, with a couple of points on my license and owner of two sports cars, (one of them a convertible); car insurance takes quite a bit of my paycheck. Im aware of how important is to have car insurance, especially in south ...

Pros: Great rates & Friendly service AT FIRST! Cons: BILLS not mailed, Payments not applied when received, Impossible to get errors corrected.
After the first year my policy did go up and Geico could beat them but I called AIG and they made some changes and were comparable to Geico and friendlier so I stayed with them. They have done sooo many things to me it's impossible to put it all down ...

Pros: Cheap Cons: Interested in talking to a human? Forget it.
I have worked with several different auto insurance companies. AIG has by far the worst service I have ever experienced. Sure, they are cheap, but the amount of time you spend on hold or on the phone with them trying to straighten out problems negates...

Pros: Absolutely NONE! Cons: Slow, dishonest, Overly-automated, disorganized, unethical, rude, irresponsible.
The only experience I have with this company is through an accident with one of their insured. I have GEICO, which for the most part is decent, although you can see where they cut corners to get you their low rates. At any rate, upon first contacting AIG ...

Pros: Good rates. Cons: Poor claim service. Use of independent adjusters.
I felt the claim service did not respond to my inquiries promptly. The independent adjuster they hired never returned my phone messages. AIG deducted amounts for "betterment" because my ("depreciated") exhaust system was damaged and had to be replaced....

Pros: Cheap rates Cons: Cheap rates shortly turn into HIGHER rates. Poor customer service. Inordinate wait times on the phone.
I was "lured" into switching my auto insurance to AIG, by their shrewd
sales campaign. I filled out an application and was quoted a rate significantly lower than GEICO. I switched insurance companies and received and PAID my first bill. I...

Pros: Starts out fair priced, quick and easy setup. Cons: Ended up 20% higher, with a bogus excuse
I originally was quoted ("guaranteed") a fair and reasonable price based on the value of my vehicle. By the time the rate went into effect it was higher. It was 20% higher again at 6 months. I changed the coverage, got a new quote, then at the renewal...

Pros: Cheap (when they are trying to sell you) Cons: Increased Premium
Poor customer service
I bought my insurance from GE Auto (now part of AIG Auto). Somehow they got an accident report from some reporting agency (and they interpreted few words to suit the condition for premium increase). Even when my previous agent's office (State Farm) got ...

Pros: Was cheap at the outset (purely bait) Cons: Bait & Switch!!!!
Prior to joining AIG I had a good policy w/ a local agent through Mercury insurance. Unfortunately for me, AIG, through my Chase card, offered a great policy. I had been paying about $1,300/year for my 2001.5 Audi A4 (comp & collision) and my 64 1/2...

Pros: They have low prices Cons: They try to rip you off at every turn.
I have always thought of myself as being able to find a deal, so when I called AIG (after receiving a price quote in the mail) and talking to the individual for about an hour I came to the conclusion that this was a deal I couldn't pass up. The price ...

Longtime AIG customer
by surfer19713 ,Apr 28 '06
Pros: Great rates, friendly service, easy to conduct business,24/7 customer service, great claims service. Cons: None
I have insured my vehicles with AIG since 1998 and have been totally satisfied with the service they provide. Their rates are competitive and their customer service staff is friendly and helpful. I was involved in one minor loss a few years ago and the claims service was great. I was contacted the same day and my claim was handled in one week. Based on my experiences with AIG Auto I expanded my business with the company.
UPDATE 12/6/06: I had a recent accident and my experience with the AIG Claims department was excellent. Upon contacting the claims department the lady I spoke with took all the information in a caring and professional manner, I was then transferred to the adjuster who took my statement and answered any additional questions. The next day I received a call from the appraiser who came to the house, wrote up the estimate and cut a check for the damages minus the deductible. The whole process was resolved in less than 24 hours. This is the way a claim should be handled.
