Pros: Great customer service. Reasonable rates. Cons: A bad adjuster can make it bumpy, but a good agent can help the process.
Background Growing up, my family always used American Family Insurance. The agent was a long-time friend. The familiar jingle was somehow comforting. In my years as a grown up, I've gone through several insurance companies: the Internet/Phone ...
Pros: Slightly less expensive - I pay 3% more now. Cons: Incompetent, unresponsive, and rude.
In 1998 I bought my first house. Since my co-purchaser's car was insured with American Family, we called them up for our homeowners insurance. Our agent carefully explained everything (repeatedly, where we got confused) and helped us pick coverage we...
Pros: none Cons: Will find ways to increase your premiums in a heart beat
I've had American Family for almost 10 years, on my house and two vehicles. I've never had a claim. So I was activated to military active duty last year (am a Reservist), and have to be stationed in Arizona for 2 years on military Temporary Duty orders. ...
I am a homeowner who used this insurance company for four years. I carried their coverage on my home, 2 cars, and my daughters life insurance was through this company. At first, the agent was terriffic. The cost was moderate. The coverage was good....
Pros: good coverage, terrific agent. Cons: a little pricey, claims dept needs to pick up the pace.
I moved in with my boyfriend a year ago, because I rented and he had his own house. One minor thing we overlooked was notifying his insurance agent. When the policy was up for renewal, the agent (who was aware of my residency by this time) asked me...
Pros: They have a local office in rural keokuk ia Cons: poor service
After many years (10+) of insurance with them with no claims, no late pays, we have had nothing but grief with the Keokuk Ia. They said we had to put on new roof, we did. They said we had to reside the garage. We did. A year goes by. Then they said we ...
American Family Omaha, Ne. don't bother wasting your money. by dlawnman ,Apr 17 '08
Pros: None. This company is not user friendly. Cons: They will not work with you even if you are a senior citizen
Drop American Family before they drop you. After 10 years they change agents and the gal that took over does not want to work with you on getting thinks fixed up. She sets a time limit and for a sixty year old guy to get out in the middle of winter to paint a house its not possible and she knows that. Ask for a two month extentision and she won't even work with you so you can get it done in temps you can paint in. Have a company man come out and due some adjusting and he doesn't even give a fair adjustment. Do Not Use this company in the Omaha area you will be sorry. You may save money at the beginning but in the long run you will always lose with time. The adjuster that they sent out did not even want to work with senior citizen trying to bring things up to their standards. Which by the way was ok with the agent that retired. Jim had no problems with the property but I think that this company was trying to weed things out.
The worst home insurance company imaginable by agandelman ,Aug 28 '07
Pros: If you're looking for the lowest cost insurance around, this is the company for you. Cons: Customer support: none. Adjusters are "company men" whose concern is the well-being of the company
After our home sustained severe water damage from a regional torrential storm, our agent and adjuster managed to deny, in full, our entire claim...including pumping out the water, remediation, removal of wet carpeting, padding, furniture, sanitizing and disinfecting. They refused to cover any of the contents of our home or the restoration of our basement. We are now left out to dry to the tune of some $15,000 - $20,000. Our agent returned approximately one out of every four calls we placed.
