From Text to Graphic Puzzles

by BlackBear Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Dec 12 '00
Pros: Great movies, get to see the world of Zork for the first time
Cons: Some of the puzzles and mazes are a pain in the butt
Way back when PCs were almost as rare as hen's teeth and an Apple was seen just as often as IBM PCs, a small program that was 100% text based took the country by storm. Years later, when video games were getting better, the Zork series of games were...

Want Some Rye?

by ethier , Mar 19 '00
Pros: Lots of gameplay for 1 CD
Cons: Too difficult without hints
Course ya do! And you'll need a few stiff drinks to get through this game.
Welcome to Return to Zork, the most difficult game this reviewer has ever attempted. Have your hints file handy, and, frequently, your walk-thru guide. I began to play this...

Return To Fun

by FD811 , Jan 24 '00
Pros: graphics, sound, music, story line
Cons: none to mention
Return To Zork is one of the games in the Zork series and this one just might be one of the best yet.

Zork has been around for a long time and they have made a great and fun game this time. With the exception of the new Zork: Grand Inquistor...

Want Some Rye? Course ya do!

by proth , Dec 11 '99
Pros: Puzzling, odd
Cons: Old by now, sometimes TOO puzzling
Ahh, Return to Zork.

It wasn't really a return for me, I'd not been there before. 4 years ago we'd just got our brand new CD-ROM drive for our PC, and this game was included. It took me in much more than the other game, The 7th Guest.

The Future Is Grim, Indeed...

by Jeridyte , May 02 '01
Pros: Top notch production values, graphics, sound, and acting are just a few highlights.
Cons: For some reason, this game was a sleeper hit by Zork standards.
Spanning more than a dozen games and three decades, Zork was one of the first and one of the best. However, RTZ marked a major first in that it wasn't interactive fiction. But while I could simply sit and rant about the game, it might be more prudent to...

Outdated, Yet Fun and Challenging

by hotshot1a , Jan 27 '00
Pros: Challenging puzzles; original plot and scenery; cheap
Cons: No 3D graphics, no action controlled by the player
Here is a game in which few rules apply and one of the most backwards societies dwells. If you have never played any games in the Zork series, this game will probably strike you as one of the most bizarre ones around. The charcters, places, and the...

not the zork I grew up with

by duke101 , Sep 10 '01
Pros: watch the zork world come to life with pictures
Cons: the original text version was far more imaginative
Like so many other dorks, I was raised with a healthy dose of text-based adventure games, particularly the Zork series. It was nearly impossible to figure out the puzzles, even with the hint guide, but it was amazing. You didn't need pictures, it was...

Zork - the text game in pictures

by mikolaj , Dec 02 '99
Pros: the Zork game in pictures!
Cons: rather old, zork fans might not like it
Zork was really the first game that ever existed for a PC. Back in the early 80s, various people at MIT developed the original Zork games, which you can buy really inexpensively along with "Return to Zork." People were fascinated with the...

Loads of fun!

by kitty_7 , Feb 20 '00
Pros: RPG gam, good graphics, fun dialogue
Cons: Some of the puzzles are frustrating
When I bought Return to Zork, I did not really know what to expect.

I must say that it was not a let down. I don't buy many games for my computer, but when I saw this one advertised I had to find a demo for this game. I played the demo and...

Return to Zork: Revisiting an Old Friend

by hamburgerman , Nov 07 '00
Pros: entertaining, lots of fun
Cons: very few
I grew up with the Apple II computer in junior high. The original text adventure ZORK series was an all-time favorite of mine. I never played any ZORK games after ZORK III, like ZORK ZERO and BEYOND ZORK, though. After being away from the computer...

Zork World

by scottysmalls , Jan 17 '00
Pros: Very fun
Cons: Graphics and sound can be a little jerky
This game is fairly old. My brother got it years ago, probably even before getting on the internet. This game was very fun. It was ahead of it's time on how it looked. It's graphics are equal to those of some games which have been created within more...

Fun and entertaining

by anwills , Dec 22 '99
Pros: imaginative, fun
Cons: won't run on newer machines as well
This game was sent to me in the mail after registering for a CD-ROM drive I had just gotten for Christmas. It has been over a year since I have played the game, since it is no longer working on my 4x cd-rom and the sound is now all blotchy. While it...

Return To Zork is a great game!
by maccentris ,Jan 24 '05
Pros: No Zork game after this one ever came close in fun and enjoyment!
Cons: This game is unbeatable without help. Without hint or walkthrough you are toast.
This game has always been my favorite since its release in 1993. I've also played Zork Nemesis and Zork Grand Inquisitor, but none of them were as good. For its time the graphics were great and the music was astounding. And it was so much fun!!

I wish they'd make a sequel to this game with the same place and scenery 20-30 years after the time of this one with the same people played by older actors, with descendants of the ones here, and kids. I also hope they use the Mushroom People they omitted from this one.

This game has NO flaws.
