Pros: Challenging course with good turf conditions. Greens, medium paced with plenty of slope, fun.
Cons: Course is firm and fast and length not much of a factor for long hitters.
In July of 2004 SCC underwent a major reconstruction. A state of the art irrigation system was installed on the 150 acre property. The new system has created much improved turf conditions. The course also built two new holes on a recently purchased 20 acres of property. A short 100 yard par 3 was eliminated and replaced with a 550 yard par 5 and a short par 5 was rerouted into a long par 4. Both holes are extremely challenging. You are required to carrying wetlands and hit straight shots through tree lined fairways. The back nine also saw reconstruction of #11, #16 and #18 green. These greens had drainage problems so a bulldozer was brought in to reshape and construct new greens and surrounds. Mounds, bunkers and USGA greens now create superb conditions at Springfield CC. The course was lengthened by the new holes to 6750 yards with more expansion in the future. Shaved green surrounds require accuracy with approach shots and native tallgrass lining some fairways requires accurate tee shots.
