Pros: Looks nice, powerful exhaust, turntable, oven rack, night light, child lock. Cons: If a moron installs it beware of a potential fire hazard and sawdust filled food.
As Ive mentioned in several other reviews, there were items that I really hated leaving behind when I moved. My microwave was one of them. For years I dreamed of having one of those cool over-the-range microwave ovens that didnt take up ...
Pros: Lots of features and easy to clean. Cons: You have to be taught or read the booklet to know how to use it.
As of 1/2006, this microwave is alive and as good as it was the day I wrote this. My mother has the General Electric SpacemakerXL Microwave Oven (JVM1440). I spend a couple of week in Florida a year and never felt comfortable writing ...
Pros: looks, convenience Cons: some of the features require you to read the manual to work
Prior to owning the GE Spacemaker XL microwave oven all I ever owned were inexpensive models that sat on the counter. I don't consider myself a huge user of the microwave so all I wanted was something that looked good, didn't take counter space, and ...
Pros: Works well for 95% of my use Cons: I really miss it the 5% of the time it doesn't work
Up and at 'em This GE Spacemaker Microwave Oven is an over the range 950 W microwave with 1.4 cf capacity and exhaust fan. There is a built-in turn table, one-touch buttons for popcorn, reheating and defrosting, numeric keypad to enter cooking ...
Pros: Looks nice, is powerful, saves space, is easy to use, works great. Cons: Underside light isn't very bright, vent fan is VERY noisy.
My husband and I have an older home, so we are accustomed to things the old-fashioned way...from hand-washing dishes to having a microwave taking up an entire corner of our kitchen. We had a small microwave on a cart that worked just fine, but I hated ...
Pros: Looks just like a microwave Cons: It's actually an imposter
Sour Grapes Relationship? You Decide. The JVM1440 is the third GE Over-The-Range microwave we've owned. I bought it to replace another similar GE microwave that the door fell apart on after 3 years. The JVM1440 broke the prior ...
Pros: Quiet.Heats a lot faster than my older Whirlpool model. Cons: Control panal too plastic looking. Door closing requires some effort to close.
First off, I do not get so excited about cooking appliances as I do about cleaning appliances. If that were the case, I would recommend Miele to everyone! My girlfriend is the cook and I clean up. Our old Whirlpool microwave died a few months ago and we...
Pros: Cooks evenly, great controls, easy to clean Cons: Tough to install, replacing lamps is dangerous, expensive parts.
This microwave has worked well for me for about 2 years until one of my night light lamps burned out. Getting to these lamps is not an easy task. After lowering the lamp cover, you have to stick your head way under the microwave just to see the lamp. ...
Pros: It worked fine until defective part broke. Cons: Horrible customer service keeps me from buying GE again. The gamble isn't worth the headache.
This review is about horrible customer service from GE that prevents me from gambling that I will purchase a GE product...that works...again. My 3 year old GE JVM 1440 Spacesaver Microwave stopped working one morning. It just did not heat. I called ...
Pros: Best fan, nicest looking, and easiest to clean. Cons: No sensor cooking, uneven cooking, short life span.
Our US made Litton went 20 years and I never replaced the magnetron. A GE Profile Spacemaker, made in Korea, was part of a remodel. 18 months ago the magnetron went out on our GE Profile Spacemaker. It was 2 1/2 years old. They wanted $160 for a ...
Pros: Appearance and cooking performance is good Cons: This model is one of many GE models reported by consumers to be unreliable
32 months after delivery, the magnetron failed. At the time, the magnetron warranty was 10 years, but labor warranty was only a year. So we paid $120 to have the warranted part replaced. Fast forward 33 months. Another magnetron failure. The part ...
Pros: Power levels, express cooking buttons are nice Cons: Constant bulb replacement
We have had the General Electric SpacemakerXL Microwave Oven (JVM1440) installed over our cooktop for almost 5 years now. We selected the microwave because of a few great features: multiple power levels, one tough popcorn button, and express cook ...
GE JVM1440 950 Watts Microwave Oven by dipseydog ,Jun 21 '07
Pros: Turntable runs clock-wise and counter clock-wise, or can be turned off. Cons: Stopped working after 20 months. GE is not consumer friendly.
I have used this microwave for about 20 months and have liked it -- until it quit cooking. Everything else still works -- the lights, fan, timer, turntable, clock ... It just does not cook.
I bought this microwave because the handle on the last GE microwave broke off. It could not be repaired.
I liked that GE JVM1440 950 Watts Microwave Oven heated quickly and evenly. The turntable would run clock-wise and counter clock-wise. It could also be turned off. I also liked the lights under the unit. They lit the stove top nicely.
I hate that it stopped heating after only 20 months. When talking with the repair company, I learned that a built-in microwave should last about 10 years. I also learned that GE has had trouble with their magnetron tubes. Getting in touch with GE was extremely difficult. I will not purchase another GE microwave.
Your basic GE Microwave, broke after 2 1/2 years by klaynaxis ,Dec 07 '07
Pros: Works well, have many programs for different food types, timer feature, clock, carosel, etc. Cons: Broke after 2.5 year, not work repairing due to the high cost.
Ok,
So I got this microwave with our house when we purchased it. It's about 3 years old and the prvious owner installed it.
What's there to say? It's like every other GE microwave on the planet.
It's fairly easy to use once you get used to using it.
My big issue with it is that it no longer heats food. The basic symptom is that you can not adjust the power. The JVM1440 reports "CAN NOT ADJUST POWER AT THIS TIME" when you try to adjust the power level.
The unit costs about $300.00 new, so it's not cost effective to replace it.
Furthermore, this error code is not searchable on the GE web site, though it appears to a common problem.
While it worked well when it worked, I'm really not sure that I'll buy another GE. Thought, unlike my JennAir experience, this isn't so bad.
Pros: Works sometimes. When it feels like it. Lousy customer service. Ignorant repair man. Cons: Works sometimes. When it feels like it. Lousy customer service. Ignorant repair man.
This will be my 3rd service call since buying the unit in Aug 2006. The 1st repair was to get it to work period. The 2nd call followed shortly thereafter due to the inside light acting erratically. I explained this in my email for customer service, but the repairman showed up without a bulb! Of course by this time it wouldn't work at all, and when he fiddled with it it would come on for a split second then go off. He said the problem was the bulb and that he would have one mailed to us. I never saw a light bulb in my life that goes on and off, it's obviously the door switch. We complained that the bulb wasn't the problem and were told that our serviceman was a trained professional (she didn't say what he was trained IN!). I installed the bulb (the old one was fine, all filaments intact) and turned the unit on -surprise! No light! So we scheduled another appointment, which will be almost 2 weeks time. I'll never buy another GE anything, period.
