Cons: DEFECTIVE DESIGN THAT GE WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE NOR CORRECT AT THEIR EXPENSE.

Cons: Looks like GE either doesn't understand how to fix the F7 problem or doesn't care.
Summary: Many thanks to byrnesmc for telling us how to fix the F7 problem! I similarly pulled the ribbon cable out of the connector, then used a box knife (you could use a razor blade also) to VERY CAREFULLY scrape off the plastic on each wire on the ribbon
