Pros: Easy to adjust, easy to control and easy to clean... that says it all! Cons: Well, the pot supports stain easily and aren't easy to clean. Hmmm...
It started as a boneheaded mixup. My wife and I came home and immediately smelled gas from the vicinity of our stove. It was a drop-in model with a broken timer, something that we had considered replacing for some time. Without any further examination of ...
Pros: Fine performance and the most desirable features at an exceptional price. Cons: The first self-clean cycle can be a smelly experience.
Heat is heat and metal is metal. In a double-blind taste test, you probably wouldn’t be able to discern between an egg fried in the most expensive French-sounding cookware on a $4,000 “epicurean” gas range and one cooked in a Farberware ...
Pros: High output and simmer burner, self cleaning. Cons: none
A leading consumer organization picked this as the best value under $600, and I agree.
This range has 2 9500 btu burners, a 12000 btu high output burner, and a 5500 btu simmer burner. Most ranges have 4 burners of around 9000 btu output. The...
Pros: Excellent features & performance for the size & money. Cons: No warming drawer, but, so what?
If you're like me & frequently cook meals for your family & enjoy hosting large dinner parties -- but lack the budget or inclination for buying one of those complicated & expensive gourmet ranges, you'll be happy with your GE HotPoint. Especially if you ...
Pros: Digital Display, easy to use up/down keypad controls, excellent broiling Cons: Mediocre self cleaning, uneven baking/roasting results.
I bought this range to replace a Caloric Self Cleaning Range that required repairs to the electronic igniters on a regular basis. I selected this range due to its high rating by a leading consumer magazine. Positives The unit, though basic, has ...
Pros: Reasonable price, nice cooktop, digital features Cons: Claims it reaches temperature before it does, mediocre cleaning with permanent staining behind oven windows.
I bought this range for my new home on the recommendation of a leading consumer magazine that rated it a good buy for the money. I've had the range for about 9 months and I use it for baking or broiling once a week (my microwave gets used the other ...
Pros: Good solid basic range. Cons: cleaning...cleaning...cleaning
I have never had what I would consider a bad range but I have had some cheaper ones in the past I liked better. My main problem with this range is that it is a pain in the !!! to clean. There are some areas on the main unit that you really just can't...
Pros: Burners on top excellent. Cons: Uneven cooking. Inaccurate temp.
Everything up top works fine, but the oven bakes very uneven. One half of your pie will be burnt, the other 1/2 warm. Also, the temp is about 25 degrees off. Should have paid more for convection...
Hotpoint RGB745--My take on this by thinki ,Feb 04 '08
Pros: I really like this range despite negative reviews by other people that I read. Cons: The negative reviews by others made me think twice. It is NOT a Professional range.
I've had this for 3 months now. I waited till now to have time to test it well. So far, I like it. I do a reasonable amount of cooking & baking. I bought the one with the black top, which I really like. I can take off the burner pans & pop them into the dishwasher to clean the gunk off. The rest of the stovetop is easy to clean. The oven temperature seems accurate, but it has adjustments you can do if you want it slightly hotter or cooler. The broiler works well & you don't have to bend down as if praying to see the food. The self-clean feature is a great blessing! The different BTUs help, especially for boiling a pot of water, average cooking, and for simmering. It is NOT meant to be a Professional stove, but for the money, it is very good! I like it a lot.
Pros: Cooks food Cons: Bad quality enamel finish that chips easily. Self-cleaning does not do a good job.
Even after the 4hours 20 minutes self-cleaning, the oven is still dirty. Sponging off the ashes is the easy part, then I have to clean off all the grease on the door and corners that the self-cleaning did not get.
The white enamel finish on top of the stove chips really easily, even if you are careful.
The gray enamel finish from the burners also chips easily.
It does the job of cooking, but that is it. I would have done better with another brand name for the same price.
Pros: A Nice Feature Package At This Price Cons: Costly Parts Are Akwardly Mounted. Cooking Stains Between Oven Window Glass.
The 1st inevitable "parts failure" occurred at 26 months, rather early to my mind. The "Bake" Igniter [replacing the old pilot light] simply ceased functioning and close examination revealed no possable reasion [spills, etc.] why this should have happened.
Our "repair men" here get $85 just to come to your door and 'the going price' for this standard and frequently needed part seems to be $70 which alone is about 15% of hat I paid for the stove
Though I had to wait a week for it to arrive, I found it for $50 and, as the stove's original instructions showed, installing it would have been a rather easy 'home repair' job IF GE's engineers had placed the mounting bracket so the 2 screws were accessable for repair and not just for manufacture. As it is, you can just get [by touch -you can't see it] the proper size socket in place but must turn that with pliers as there was only just over an inch clearance to start with.
Don't bother with this one !!!! by giftofwisdom ,Sep 19 '06
Pros: Pros well that is a hard one...... It cooks that it. Cons: You name it, there is an issue with everything.
The grates are grey and chip easy. They get very dirty in the creases and unable to be cleaned. The grey shows all the cooked on dirt. The cook top gets very hot so you cannot allow any children near the stove or they will burn their sensitive skin. The small simmer burner is useless. You coul have just lowered a regular burner. The plastic over the buttons is hard to clean without scratching it. The grates also become uneven when they get hot causing a pan to wabble, not safe. Very sorry I listened to Consumer Reports on this one, won't be going back to them for advice. If this is the best on the market for the price I hate to see the others. And yes the burner knobs stick out and catch on your clothing and try to ignite the burner. Not happy at all.
Pros: ECONOMICAL GAS RANGE THAT DOES SERVE ITS PURPOSE. Cons: BURNER COVER DOES CHIP. THE SELF-CLEAN FOR HEAVY SPILLS, YOU MUST ASSIST (ok).
THE IGNITOR! THESE COMPANIES CERTAINLY KNEW WHAT THEY
WERE DOING WHEN THEY ELIMINATED THE PILOT LIGHT.
APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS AFTER PURCHASE, YOU WILL NEED
TO REPLACE YOUR IGNITOR. BETWEEN THE PARTS AND
INDEPENDENT TECHNICIAN LABOR FEES. IT'S NOT WORTH
REPAIRING.
Pros: Trays under burners, easy cleaning. Cons: Excessive Range top heat.
I thought I bought the stove of my dreams, I was wrong. This stove is dangerous. First when using the burners the range top becomes extremely HOT, a child could burn their hand on it. Next the vent for the oven is on top of the stove (under the clock) and blows directly in your face as you cook. The smoke from the broiler comes out directly at your waist. Finally the knobs stick all the way out, which can catch onto your clothes. Hotpoint is aware of the excessive heat and says it's within standards. Whose standards the devil?
Good, solid workhorse stove with a bad oven vent by peter100 ,Jun 10 '06
Pros: Simple, accurate cooking and baking/ broiling. Cons: A dangerously hot oven vent exhausting onto the stovetop.
Short-lived oven igniter.
I bought this stove/ oven after a lot of price/features comparison.
The stove and oven cook well, with accurate temperature. Easy to use, simple controls, timer.
The only serious problem with this stove is the intensely hot oven vent that exhausts right over the stovetop, melting or scorching anything sitting on the back of the stove that is not metal. My wife and I have both burned our hands on pots sitting in front of vent during baking- a danger for children, as well.
Another disappointment is that, after 5 years, the oven igniter died- a difficult self-repair job.
