Pros: It actually will do what they claim it will. It really is great. Cons: Broiler takes a long time to preheat. Doesn't come with the kitchen sink?
Anyone who's ever dreamed of having a double oven, but thought it was impossible in her (or his) kitchen, rejoice!!! Those crazy gurus at Maytag have said, "Why not?" Why not, indeed? Well, we'll get to the reasons why not later, but ...
Pros: Plenty of cooking and baking capacity, attractive, sturdy Cons: Lower oven requires bending, control panel is complicated, broiler less than optimum
When we bought our house, it had an old Magic Chef with top and bottom ovens. When we redid our kitchen, we bought the great grandchild of that stove. Food was produced in great quantity for our five kids and many guests. When our second stove died, ...
Pros: The smaller oven can actually save you money.Great for baking cookies. Cons: None i could think of.
This is probably the best range out there.Maytag really was thinking of the consumers when they designed this one. Were a family of five and yet, most of the time when we use the oven,we only use the top oven which is the smaller of the two.Pre-heating ...
Pros: Compact double-oven design and smart-look Cons: Never judge a product by it's appearance! This range should be recalled for smoke/fire hazard
I purchased this range about 3 1/2 years ago for its compact double-oven design. I thought it was a smart space-saving unit. The range worked fine until Nov.26, 2007 evening; as I was cooking on one burner, the other three burners started to ignite ...
Pros: Big meals are a breeze to prepare with two ovens! Cons: Bottom oven is VERY low and awkward to reach.
I thoroughly researched my options in gas ranges before I took the plunge and purchased the Gemini more than a year ago. It was well worth the higher price tag! The best part of this range (besides its good looks) is the double oven. It has made entertaining, especially during the holidays, so much easier! I can bake small casseroles, pies or cakes in the smaller oven and still have a full sized oven for the roast or turkey and all the trimmings!
I use the top smaller oven about 85 percent of the time. It is large enough for a pizza or two casseroles or cake pans side by side.
I was worried about the black top showing every little spill but for the most part a thorough clean up after a major cooking project is all it needs too look good. I have had it now for about 18 months and it still looks brand new. I highly recommend purchasing a stainless hood (I replaced my old white hood with a $125 stainless model) and it looks fabulous with the Gemini!
After 3.5 years this range is starting to malfunction by russiand ,Jan 01 '07
Pros: Elegant, works as advertised. Two ovens are convenient. Cons: Complex electronics are bound to give out sooner or later.
This product has always preformed well. The only issue we had was with the upper oven. It takes a long time for the broiler element to ignite and one could smell a little gas until ignition occured. Also the bake function in the upper oven does not distribute heat all that evenly. However now there appears to be a malfunction and the broiler element does not come on, the bake function is turned on instead. The 3 year warranty is out of course!
Pros: NONE Cons: BROILER TAKES FOEVER TO HEAT, TO OVEN BURNS FOOD, STOVETOP TO SMALL
I wrote a review about 1-2 years ago...and I still hate this stove. I cook every night and I only cook for 2 people. The top oven burns food on the bottom because the heating element is to close the rack. There is NO room on the top burners for cooking with multiple pans. I use a 12 in. skillet and that takes up a lot of the space. The pans ALWAYS touch each other. Why the knobs are on the stove top is a mystery to me. I think they should have put them where the oven controls are, crazy. My knobs have melt marks on them from pans that over lapped the burner and melted them. Did I mention I HATE THIS STOVE. I use the top oven for storing pans and that's it, it's just to small for anything else IMO. The broiler takes FOREVER!!! to heat up. I tried to get my money back but Maytag said to bad I didn't like it. I'm moving soon and I'm leaving this piece of junk because I can't wait to get rid of it. Did I mention I HATE THIS STOVE!
Pros: Nice design, easy to use. Cons: Slow warm up times. (Minor issue.)
Just purchased this oven at my local Sears and so far we love it! Very convenient having two ovens, and easy to use if you take a minute to look at the instructions. I had some fears of buying it at first, because of comments in ratings here and elsewhere, and the recall on the broiler. But, I took the plunge and have no regrets. The range looks great, was easy to install, and so far has worked without issue. It appears some of the negative comments in the ratings are from some very particular people. The ovens do take some time to warm up, but none of us probably preheat like we are supposed to and shove something in the oven before it should be. For basic everyday cooking, it's been great!
Pros: Pretty and wife loves the two ovens Cons: unreliable
After building a new house and purchasing all new Maytag kitchen appliances, I am very disappointed in their products. I bought a new fridge, microwave, range, and dish washer. Only the dish washer hasn't broke (yet). The repairman has been to my house numerous times replacing parts on the fridge and the micro wave. Just today the electronic ignition for the top burners on the range malfunctioned. All four of them keep sparking continuously even though the burners are off. I had to trip a breaker in the elect panel to shut the stove down. The Maytag repairman is staying busy at my house! I'll have to phone him again tomorrow. No more Maytag products will enter here.
Another smoke and fire ruins good experience by lionopt1 ,Jun 09 '08
Pros: Flexibility, two ovens in small space, great burners and ease of cleaning Cons: top small oven sometimes takes a long time to reach broil
We have has this Gemini gas range for a couple years and it has been excellent at most cooking tasks. The small upper oven broiler sometimes takes 10 minutes to really get lit and cooking, which can be frustrating when trying to broil a quick meal for one, and you find that after 10 minutes the food has not started to cook. Controls are easy to use, and it is very useful range for cooking for one person or a large group. Programmable oven features make it a breeze to have food ready when guests arrive. Top tends to keep food and grease from getting into burner areas and cleaning is easy
3 weeks ago, after cooking and turning the stove off to clean it, we re-lit it for tea and when the spark to light the burners started, there was smoke and fire shooting out from one burner knob area. We turned off and shut off electrical breakers etc. Problem appears to be the igniter switch on that burner knob failed and burned up the module and wires and we are waiting for repair parts. Not something that I find acceptable for this class of product.
My MGR6772BDB's stove controls sizzled and smoked by dmcallister918 ,Apr 09 '07
Pros: Hard to cite any when the thing failed after three years Cons: Failed after three years and I am stuck with repairs
4/9/2007. My Maytag Gemini gas range was new in 2004. About 2 months ago, the spark igniters for the range top began staying on even after all of the burner controls were turned off. By working the controls back and forth, I could eventually get the igniters to stop.
The last time this happened and I worked the controls back and forth, I could hear arcing and smoke started billowing out of the stove top. Now, the front two burner controls do not work. If I turn them, I can hear arcing.
Even thought there is a recall listed for Gemini ranges on the Consumer Products Safety Commision website, my range is not covered. I found this out when I called the recall hotline given on CPSC website. The person aswering the phone told me I could call another number to report the problem, meaning I should do her work for her.
Regardless of the warranty, I think a range this expensive should last more than three years. It looks like I am stuck with paying for expensive repairs.
I returned this range after 6 weeks. by masons ,Nov 22 '04
Pros: Excellent use of space. Cons: The broiler takes up to twenty minutes to fire up.
I thought this was the smartest gas appliance out there and could not wait to have it in my home and start using it. It is in many ways the best use of space I have seen and people with variable needs will find choosing between the small oven and the large over an advantage.
It has a fatal flaw. The broiler takes between 15 and 22 minutes to ignite. The top oven chamber must be preheated to 400-450 degrees before the broiler igniter will go onto light the gas element.
No one should have to wait 20 minutes for a broiler, most charcoal fires take less time than that.
If you don't broil ever, it could be a perfect appliance. If you broil and choose gas for speed, this in not the appliance to look at.
Its sister appliances by Jennaire and soon Amana have the self same system.
Pros: Great cook top burner size and BTU ratings Cons: Cold spots in the ovens, broiler, preheat time and again cold spots.
We were very excited when we bought the range, but changed our view when it started to ruin dishes due to massive cold spots. The range took for ever to heat up and the upper oven/broiler we are still waiting for it to heat up. At least I have aged beef now.
Due to these problems we have stopped entertaining because of the embarrassment of having a dish with cold spots.
I very sorry we purchased this product and would not recommend it at any level.
Pros: Its practical, easy to clean, convenient, & 2 timers are great. Cons: Top oven's heat too concentrated to cook cookies or biscuits - the bottoms always burn.
I purchased mine about 2yrs ago & have no regrets. The dual ovens sure do come in handy at the holidays & weekends when I "power cook" for the week! I use the smaller oven most of the time. I don't think it takes long to heat up - 5 mins & by that time my food is ready to pop in.
Generally Works Well but there are Problems by yakman62 ,Jun 12 '06
Pros: Dual ovens
Performs well Cons: Quality problems - frequent malfunctions in the electronics
The dual ovens are the oven's best selling features. The oven functions just fine but we've experienced THREE break-downs in the electronic panel since August 2004. Each panel would have cost hundreds of dollars to replace but thankfully it was covered by warranty. We paid extra for an extended warranty here - well worth it!
