Pros: Versatile, inexpensive, 25 year head warranty, simple. Cons: threading is awful!! noisy, work light is too dim
.....I didn’t and worked harder than necessary. I needed to sew skating outfits for my son. There was no way I was going to pay the several hundred dollars for one outfit that other skaters’ parents paid, when I have excellent sewing skills! Just ...

Pros: it DOES serge Cons: good luck finding parts/service
This is my first serger experience. I might have been better off limiting my selection to the brands that offer an instructional video with the machine, but opted for the Singer name instead.
The only part of the manual I've still not deciphered is...

Pros: Easy to handle. Very clearly marked dials. Cons: It isn't the quietest machine. I don't think it would handle canvas or denim.
I have an large industrial serger that is a complete pain to thread, adjust, etc. Out of desperation I needed a serger that was easier to work with. This was the only serger that I could go to the local store and buy at a reasonable ...

Loving it!
by teriliz2 ,Dec 14 '07
Pros: Small, fast, easy to use Cons: None
Have only used the machine a few times, but find it is great! Even without tying new thread to old to rethread I didn't find it all that difficult to thread. My first serger and love the fact that I don't need to trim my seams anymore, one less thing to not enjoy about sewing!

Very Nice Machine For The Price!
by charmingfabric ,May 01 '07
Pros: Great Price, Easy to Use, threading NOT difficult at all! Cons: None.
I have owned my Singer Serger for about 8 months and it has been a great machine! It arrived threaded and it was easy to thread once the factory thread ran out. The extra long tweezers make it a breeze! It was easy to learn on this machine since this was my first serger. I signed up for a class, but I had learned everything I needed to know before the class started in two weeks, so I cancelled! This machine has been a great addition, and it has been perfect! I sew A LOT, so it is impressive to see this workhorse machine keep on going! I highly recommend it!

Pros: price Cons: needles hard to find; difficult to thread
This serger although is inexpensive, you get what you pay for! It won't go through alot of thicknesses or around corners without skipping stitches.

Serger very difficult to thread
by pappy89 ,Feb 23 '06
Pros: None that I can see Cons: Very difficult to thread
I bought this online for my mom for Christmas. She is a very good sewer, but found this nearly impossible to thread. In fact, after 4 hours she gave up. Now I can't get the website to take it back (ikitchens.com - I can't even find them again now to try again). She would like an upgraded model, the 14CG754 which she has been shown is much easier to thread (the whole threading part comes down). It is $100 more, but well worth the extra money.

Great machine
by beccamott ,Jan 02 '05
Pros: Easy to use. Light and compact. Great stitch options. Cons: No cons yet! :)
My husband bought this serger for me as a Christmas gift (after much hinting!). I've wanted a serger for a long time, but didn't want to spend $300+ on one. This one is a great price!
At first I was really intimidated by it. But, after looking through the book and actually using it, it is a breeze to work with.

Now that I've got the tension figured out...
by michelle-75 ,May 11 '06
Pros: -Inexpensive
-Clearly marked thread guides
-Solid machine
-25 year warranty Cons: -Can be tricky to set up, thread & get tension set.
I bought the serger on clearance at Wal-Mart. Singer is bringing out a newer model so they put the old product on clearance; great for my budget!
I took the machine out of the box, examined all of the parts, pieces and retrieved my manual. I read through the manual a couple of times before setting up my serger. It seemed easy enough to thread, so I bravely removed the sample spools that were provided... BIG mistake! I didn't observe how the threads or tension was set first.
After fooling around with the machine for an hour on 4 or 5 separate occasions, in sheer desperation and frustration, I searched on the internet for "how to's" related to sergers. I found a very useful, easy to follow site, eHow.com (be sure to check it out)that helped me out tremendously.
In a few short minutes, I had set up my serger, threaded it, adjusted the tension settings, serged a sample piece of material and resolved me angst against the machine. Now I'm enjoying my serger immensely!
