I Love My Kirby G5

by machelleL , Dec 28 '00
Pros: Deep Cleans, Dust control, lots of attachments.
Cons: Heavy and not easy to carry and changing the attachments can be a pain sometimes
When I moved in my old house about 7 years ago, a friend of mine said she had a free carpet cleaning she wanted to give me. I had cream colored carpet and with us moving in when it was snowy and muddy out, these carpets were looking more tan them cream....

Kirby Tries to Clean to Much With This One

by benx22 , Nov 14 '00
Pros: Cleaning Ability, Ease of Use, Quality of Materials
Cons: Price, Too Many Accessories, Weight
This product, the Kirby G5 vacuum cleaner, was bought because of a...brace yourself... traveling vacuum cleaner salesman. I was amazed myself when he showed up to the door, but it was funny, because he was this young, 26 year old guy trying to sell me a...

Worth the Expense

by wmeaton , Nov 09 '00
Pros: heavy construction, strong suction, many attachments
Cons: expensive, possibly too heavy, expensive bags
We purchased our Kirby G5 about 3 years ago. At a cost of about $1795 plus finance charges it was a real stretch on the budget, but after seeing the benefits, we couldn't see not spending the money.

First of all, I hate door-to-door sales...

"Solicitors Will Be Eaten...Literally"

by The_T_Meister , Aug 29 '00
Pros: Metal body
Cons: WAY Overpriced!
As I was moving into a new home a few years ago, I realized - too late - that I had failed to post my "No Solicitations" sign on the door (not that it would have mattered anyway, most likely). The doorbell rings, and a young man appears,...

This is not your everyday vacuum cleaner!

by dllenzie , Aug 28 '00
Pros: Efficient; great suction
Cons: Heavy
One of my friends had purchased a Kirby G5 and had given our name to her demonstrator. After finding out what my friend had paid for this "vacuum" I was not even remotely interested in seeing a demonstration: I knew that I would NEVER, (could...

So Long, Eureka! HELLO, Kirby!

by mondragonmom , Aug 25 '00
Pros: Lots of attachments; does various functions
Cons: Expensive; very heavy
We bought the Kirby G5 Carpet Care System a little over a year ago. The other vacuum we already had, we'd bought from wedding gift money, and it was lousy. To use a tired cliché, it sucked. But we were making do, until a telemarketer called...

I love my Kirby....still !

by Khokhonut , Aug 23 '00
Pros: Great Suction
Cons: None
I've been the proud owner of a Kirby G5 for about 4 years or so now.

My neighbor was having someone come do the demonstration at her house and invited me and a few other neighbors over.
Needless to say we were all impressed with what we...

Sucks Good, But it Sucks Bad

by ycatzz , Aug 11 '00
Pros: Super Cleaning Power
Cons: Heavy, Expensive and Time Consumign
I bought this item at the urging of my husband, who had a Kirby, but left it with his ex and wanted a new one desperately.

I'd always owned Electrolux's before it because that's what my mom had used.

So, I gave in and after seeing...

This Vacuum will Definitely outlive Me!

by emiejo , Feb 27 '00
Pros: Durable, Long lasting, power driven, versatile
Cons: heavy, very expensive, requires special bags
I hate door-to-door salesmen. If I see them coming....I may as well get out my checkbook....I rarely can say no.
However this particular salesman had me sold before he even crossed the threshold. You see, Kirby Vacuum cleaners have been in my family...

You can use it for so many different things!

by LadyChristine , Jan 27 '00
Pros: Lots of attachments, can handle just about any cleaning job, even scrubbing the tub!
Cons: The cost, changing attachments
Okay, I know what everyone familiar with the brand name Kirby thinks: they're so expensive! Why would I want to spend that much money on a vaccum cleaner? Well, I have to admit, when I first looked at one, that was my initial thought too. But I have...

Just will not work!!!
by wnddyer ,Feb 04 '07
Pros: Pretty good suction, can wash carpets also.
Cons: Breaking down constantly, traveling to buy bags.
I got my Kirby from my mom. It's a g5, and worked fine for her, she just got tired of having to go out of her way to buy bags. Well when I went to use it for the first time, it did not work. No power no nothing. I found a vacuum business that worked on several different vacuums and Kirby was one of them, so he replaced the belt, the cord, and general maintenance. It worked great for a while (my opinion I don't think it does such a great job in cleaning, you constantly have to adjust the height of the vacuum to clean such as larger pieces of trash compared to the dust in the carpet, and it still did not pick up everything unless I went over it several times), then today, it just stopped working. Actually it would not start again. I don't know what the problem is this time. I assume it's electrical due to no power at all. everything else seems fine, and it worked fine the last time I used it, so what's up?

Love this!!
by snyderfour ,Mar 26 '06
Pros: Power assist, brute suction, many attachments, long cord, HEPPA filter, sturdy, company stands behind product
Cons: Heavy, wish it were bagless.
The saleslady really pushed us but I'm glad we own this vacuum. We paid about $1,000 for the vacuum, attachments, carpet shampooer, floor waxer and buffer. I love the strong suction power of this vacuum and versatility.

If you are buying it because of the carpet shampooer, don't. It works okay but there are many better shampooers on the market. The carpet shampooer is nice in a pinch.

The floor waxer and buffer is awesome. We used it on our wood floors before we sold our house. They really needed another coat of polyurethane but the wax made the floors look brand new.

We've used it to inflate countless inflatables and it works very well.

We had a problem with the floor vacuum attachment cracking. The company replaced it at no charge. We had owned the vacuum for 5 years. I was pretty impressed that a company would do that. My zip brush also broke and I got that replaced too.

If there were one thing I could change, it would be the weight. However, having owned an expensive plastic vaccuum previously, I know that plastic parts break easily.

I bought the vacuum in 1997 and love it.

***WARNING***
by recrane ,Oct 25 '05
Pros: powerful machine
Cons: can damage your mattress. Use with caution.
Kirby salespersons cleaned my mattress for free a few months ago with horrible results. The vacuum started tearing apart my mattress. I had to stop the salesperson from doing any more damage. Though it appears minor, there machine damaged my mattress nevertheless. These things are powerful. Too powerful in my opinion.

Great Vacuum
by vacboy0371 ,Apr 08 '04
Pros: Great in suction, filtration, and durability. Plus the ease of use with the transmission.
Cons: Heavy to carry.
This is what Kirby is about!! Quality is outstanding. Performance is excellent. Reliability is marvelous. I purchased this vacuum new following an in-home demonstration and have loved it ever since. I knew that Kirby was the best. My Nana bought a rebuilt SANITRONIC over 30 years ago and it is still running great today!! If you look for them you can find them in good condition for a lot less than the new price, but if you can afford it buy the newest and best ULTIMATE G; it is the best yet from KIRBY. The G5 is a Great used vacuum and if in good condition will last at the very least 15 years, possibly longer, no way to tell just how long! Kirby is a vacuum engineered and built to last a very, very long time. It will be well worth the money you pay.
